I was in my teens here in Pasadena in the 70’s, I got to see Van Halen live before they recorded their first album. Then the debut lp was released, I found a promo copy(in the used section) and was blown away at how great it was and is. I still think it’s one of the greatest rock records ever. Unfortunately I traded my OG VH, DAMN! I have a reissue lp and love it! ✌

I’m excited for the onestep I preordered. Hopefully it releases soon. I preordered this album and 1984.

Excellent video! Ted & Don always did an absolutely incredible job on the Van Halen recordings & LP’s, the punch is big and bold. The Looney Tune EP promo in 1978 is amazing. The 1st US pressing “Winchester” is the best to my hears and I have them all, Japanese, reissue’s and all the 1st US variants. One of my favorite bands. I’ve seen them twice with the OG line-up in 81’ & 83’ and 10 times with Sammy. Dave was such the ultimate front man 👍

Glad this came up , if it were not for "Eruption" VH 1 would be just another debut album. Before you get pissy with me , play the album bypassing "Eruption". That's my take on VH I.

Hi Tim... pretty sure KZfaq unsubbed me... I quickly fixed that. It took your Instagram to alert me to this new upload. I remember hearing this the year it came out over at a friend's place. In my mind's eye I always push the date back but yeah, I'd have been 20 when Van Halen's debut first arrived! I'd love to get the Van Halen catalog added to my collection. Currently I don't own a single LP. They were huge when 1984 came out. Roth leaving at their height felt like a virtual rug being pulled out from under me. Great job on this as always. 😊

I’ve heard Gene & Paul say everyone pushed Gene to let VH out of the agreement because KISS was at their peak at the time and Paul & KISS’ management wanted Gene to focus on KISS and not get into taking on other bands.

Were the Bellman cuts digital??

Your giving me the "van Halen " bug now! I have all but 1 of their "Chris Bellman" reissue (which is cut DIRECTLY to the 1/4 inch tapes, I saw it done)! All the ones I have are the 2015 "Bellman" reissues except "women and children first" which is a second, maybe third pressing! They all sound great, but some of them you can hear where the tapes have degraded over time! But they still sound "real" on vinyl!

Yes, I agree that the CB is excellent. It's been awhile, but when I did a shootout between it and the OG I believe the CB sounded better. Don't care for many of the DCC's, regardless of the praise. I had a DCC Aqualung that I bought new when it came out which many swear by, but I personally found it rather drab and lifeless. Some others agree with that about the DCC's. Of course more recently with Kevin Gray's stellar upgrades in his studio, his solo pressings are hard to beat. I believe the Aerosmith Remasters were also done by CB, and again in comparison to ROCKS, the CB was more powerful and dynamic. I don't quite remember just how the comparison was with Toys in the Attic though, I need to do that again... 😊 Oh, BTW, I hope your move goes well. I bet you are really looking forward to your new listening room! It will be interesting to see what you come up with to store your records. You probably don't have time to check out the way I did mine, but I REALLY like the way you can easily browse through all of them, just like in a record store. It is similar in concept to those nice, slick little front facing containers that you have which I really like. Too bad they are so expensive.

That is funny that David Lee was not quiet on key. I saw them for their second album and they were showmen. It made my top @0 list for that year
