I have a pair of the Klipsch R-115SW. They usually retail between $799-$899 each. I got them new from Nebraska Furniture mart for $669 each. Funny how they will start dropping the price when you apply for credit and get that card right there. Anyways, these things are just insane with bass.. I remember when I was deciding between these and the svs stuff was I didn't like all the port noise from the svs. Yes the svs have more output than my Klipsch but I felt like you have to hide the svs behind a screen or some other furniture so I would not hear all the port noise. These Klipsch have no port noise and I have them front firing in my room. These subs damage house walls, love them.

I've been a big fan and owner of the HSU's subs..... I currently own the VTF 15H, I absolutely love the subs. I have them paired up with the RF7 II powered by Emotiva . I still consider myself a very novice audiophile but the sound that comes out of this setup is nothing short of clean and clear audio that would even tame the Jolly Green Giant!

Thank you for adding the HSU VTF-15H MK2! I have the VTF-3 MK5 and it is a total beast, very flexible in tuning and the best value for the under $1000 category as you rated on your comparison. Agree that the VTF-15H MK2 belongs in the under $1500 list, glad you corrected this initial oversight.

I am James Larson, author of the article that this video is based on. I am seeing a lot of comments noting the omission of Hsu's subs. The reason why I did not include Hsu is that they don't have a product that gets very close to the $1,500 price range. The shame of it is that the VTF15h mk2 is actually quite competitive with any of these other subwoofers. Perhaps I should have included it for that reason. We may amend the article to include the Hsu VTFh mk2 in the Rosenut finish. I am so sorry about not including Hsu and apologize if we have hurt anyone's feelings. If you are a VTF15h mk2 owner, please don't take the omission personally. I am a VTF15h mk2 owner myself and would have a very difficult time choosing between it or any of the other subs on this list. Please try to have a safe and happy holidays, James Larson

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family James. We appreciate your work! I like the fact based, truthful, reviews and vids that you and Matthew do for this channel. Thanks a lot. One other manufacturer I would consider that specializes in subs is Power Sound Audio. They have an extremely large following on the forums. In the under $1,500 price range, they offer the S1812. It is a sealed design, with an 18" neodymium extreme duty woofer from B&C in Italy (for the bachelor's that don't have to worry about the WAF this driver is bigger than all the drivers that made the list) with a 4" 4 layer aluminum voice coil, a 1,000W amp, weighs 80 lbs. and has XLR inputs. Plus, it is built in the U.S.A. In the past, the owner of PSA (formerly, the owner of SVS) has offered Christmas discounts on multi-sub purchases for those calling in and purchasing direct. They also offer free shipping, a 60-day free trial and a 5 year warranty.

@@racesla perhaps rel is not the same categories as the sub mentioned. those sub in the video is more of slamming bass, explosion bass and ground shaking bass. But when talking about rel...they dont do so. they focus so much on sound quality, or adding the mid bass to make the music more "fuller". and if u cranked them up to give u that grouding shaking bass, you might damage rel sub. This is what i am guessing why rel was not in the video due to different functionality at all. Correct me if i am wrong. i own rel and other brand of sub...so i know a bit of what i am talking about.

I don't think it hurts anyone's feelings, however it does show that you don't need to spend that kind of money that you were indicating in order to get the same level or better performance as the rest of the field.

Great video and James Larson does great reviews. I have owned dual Monolith 15’s for about 3 years now in my theater room and they are amazing. I’ve owned SVS, Hsu, gone DIY, but am blown away by how clean these subs play. You can tell they really invested time and money in making such a really well put together product.

I have 2 SVS 3000 seal and love the overall experience from both. My home theater room is only 20x25 and it fills the room perfect. I also purchase the SVS elevation for ATMOS and love the quality and sound for the cost. For front stage and surround I am using Bowers & Wilkins 704 series driving everything with Marantz 8012. For the room size I am very happy with It all.

Thanks Gene, glad to see you healthy again!🙂👍🏾 For me, the best subwoofer setup is the 4 SVS SB12-NSD that I have (one in each corner) low key, sound great and they help with the seat to seat consistency in my two row seating set up. I'm using the MiniDsp 2x4 and REW to control them. The room is 18x14 with Pioneer SC-99 AVR and the Andrew Jones Pioneer Elite towers, center and bookshelf. 7.4.4 for the win!😀🙌🏾

I'm still using my Boston Acoustics VR 2000. After 24 years without any Problems, 4 weeks ago, suddenly he makes a terrible hum noise. I find a small electronic shop with a very talented owner. He looked after the sub and after a few days, we talked about the damages and the possibilities. So I had to decide repairing or buying a new one. Ok I decided to let him repair. He refreshed the whole circuit board, the cabs and power supply etc. The loudspeaker membrane is still, after 24 years looking like new. Now the repairing costs were a third of the costs for a new subwoofer, I had in mind. Now he is sounding like new. I think it was the right decision. Gene loving your interesting videos. Excited to see what comes next year. Wishing you and your family a merry Christmas.

A number of years ago I saw the Sunfire MKIV sub {10" drivers} and I fell in love with them. I run them in pairs in my two theater rooms. I picked up one of the Sunfire Signatures {12" drivers} and it does pump out more oomph, but it just didn't seem quite as clean as the combination of two of its smaller brethren.

I just downsized my HT in the main living area due to better WAF and went with Klipsch RP600M's as mains and RP600C for center. I agonized over the sub choice as it came down to the Hsu VTF-3 mk5 or the RSL Speedwoofer10S. I ended up with the RSL unit and I still cannot believe how much clean tight bass comes out of that little sub. And it's the perfect size WAFwise. The reference speakers and subs will end up in a dedicated home theater as soon as my daughter packs up for college next year. Thanks Gene for all of your great suggestions over the years. --long time Audioholics website and forum lurker

Great video Gene! I started with a Paradigm Monitor 11 series 5.1 setup about 7 years ago, sub was a Ultra Cube 12 sealed sub, 1950watts peak, and a Yamaha 7.1 a/v Receiver, all sounded good for 6 years, one night I had one of my yearly Death fest (heavy metal) parties with my metal buddies, we pounded the tunes all night, one of the guys says to me, hey Shane, you have to get a sub! I was floored!!? they could not even tell I had the Ultra Cube 12!!! so last year I picked up Dual SVS PB3000 subs and let me tell you, they pound you in the chest and shake the house down, they are awesome, very happy I picked these up. These SVS subs where about the same price (Each) as the Ultra cube 12, but in a different league all together. I thought of selling the Ultra cube but can only get about half I paid for it, so I am running all 3 subs because I can. I picked up a Marantz SR 8012 and some Klipsch in ceiling Atmos for 7.3.4 setup. I ran the Audyssey and did some manual tuning, it sounds awesome in my home Theatre now. I am still thinking of some Base Transducers in the couches because everyone needs those right ? lol, the sickness continues as I now want all SVS Ultras and that means another amp etc etc like I said, the sickness continues and is anyone room ever finished ?

Good list and video, I currently own the Rythmik FV15HP (upgraded from a Klipsch R-120SW, and man was it a HUGE upgrade. What surprised me the most (other than size/weight) was the power the Rythmik puts out. I'd say the power rating on the Rythmik is conservatively rated as it performs as if it had WAY more power than what is advertised. I run it in 1 port setting only running 2db HOT and man, this thing is insane. The amount of bass over the R120 is just ridiculous, it literally gives that deep chest hit/pump and it is so refined and clean without needless rattle or distortion. I am wondering what it would be like If I ran it 6db hot as recommended on the forums or hell, even a second FV15HP... one of these days maybe. For anyone looking at the Rythmik, I can definitely recommend it 100%. You will not be disappointed by the power and clean/refined bass this subwoofer puts out. My Movies feel way more immersive than before and movie watching has become fun and enjoyable once again.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year ,been a fan of the channel long time ,I have a Velodyne DD 15 a Klipsch SW120 behind the couch and recently picked up a limited red Rel T9i ,honestly I am amazed what this little sub can do on 2 channel music listening with my towers up front with their high level connection off the main amp , but connecting the second connection (LFE) this thing kicks butt . Would really wish you'd try to do a review and also they're Predator line , small subs but great bass and value .

I have 3 SB-4000 subwoofers and I've never in my life felt anything like what these monsters can do. Just when you think they can't get any louder or shake your house any more they always come out swinging with even more power when it's demanded from movies like Cloverfield or Godzilla. The bridge scene from Cloverfield is such a good bass test AND surround sound demo.

Hi GamerWordDotNet, Rythmik makes very good subs. On a side note do the BMR's sound natural or has a bright sound signature ? I heard they go pretty low. Thanks.

@GamerWordDotNet 2 жыл бұрын
@@nitinkanchan5294 BMR Philharmonitors have a very natural (flat) sound signature. There is no harshness in the high end that many other speakers out there have. Yet the high end is incredibly detailed thanks to the RAAL tweeter. Dennis was even kind enough to make me custom rear speakers by installing RAAL tweeters into the Andrew Jones Pioneer speakers. Having said that, sound is subjective to everyone's ears. Room acoustics play a big role as well!

Ive had different powered subs over tye years and they always have problems. Ive had 2 or 3 amps go bad and seems like you have to spend a lot to get good sound. So I found a pair of infinity kappa 12” woofers and paired it with a class D crown amp bridged to 1550 watts. Sounds awesome, no more amp problems, and it wasn’t much to buy it. I have dual PB-2000 Pros for my basement system, dual SB-3000s for my master bedroom and dual HSU ULS-15 MK2s for my family room. The Hsu’s replaced my PB-1000s. I seriously considered buying dual PB-3000s for my family room but cost would have delayed my purchase and I heard so many great things about Hsu, so I sprung for the dual ULS-15 MK2s. The Hsu’s bass goes deeper than either of my SVS subs but the SB-3000s hits the hardest and the PB-2000 Pros goes deep as well with good extension. Including shipping The Hsu’s are still the cheapest but sounds as good if not better. I still love my SVS subs. Another excellent video and the information is very useful. Gene was struggling to remember Hoffman's Law. Also, I recently obtained an Emotiva BasX12 subwoofer on Craigslist for $200.00. Best 200 clams I ever spent on audio. Mind you, the new Emotiva subs are certainly better, but this one is very solid, well behaved, and sounds excellent on almost all material. It's mated to a pair of Klipsch R15PM powered speakers and an FX audio DAC. The sound is dynamic, balanced and total cost of system was about $250.00 since I traded for the speakers. To me, full range sound is 20 to 20K cycles. Getting very close here for very little money. Feel like being an evangelist for low cost, great sound and Gene and his crew help in this.

I've tried a lot of SVS subwoofers, including the PB-3000. For the money it is everything you said it is. For music I preferred sealing up the ports and switching the app to sealed mode. In fact I enjoyed the sealed mode so much I went with the SB16-Ultra ultimately. A little more expensive, but man what a sub. I can't say enough about SVS customer service, and their bill of rights. Top notch company who knows how to treat a customer. 👍🏻👍🏻

If I had a PB-2000 without any "sealed mode" option, would sealing up the port still be an improvement for music?
@brucecarter6205

I agree. Ported is great for raw output, but a sealed box of equal quality always sounds better to me. Great choice on the SB16.👍
@1FastGXP
@1FastGXP 3 жыл бұрын
@@HereticHulk sealing up the PB-2000 is not recommended. The DSP isn't setup for that functionality, so do so at your own risk. If you do seal it up you will probably tighten it up some, but it will never be the same as a true sealed enclosure. That's why I went with the SB16-Ultra, and never looked back.

Good overview of probably some of the most commonly talked about and most liked subs. The problem is - how on earth do you decide? If they all perform great then I feel like you just pick the cheapest one, or the one you think fits best in your room? It's a big purchase, yet subs are something that are really hard to demo. Heavy, expensive, lots of packaging materials, lots of effort if you really wanted to return them as well as expensive to ship.

I currently have a single Monolith 15" THX Ultra place directly behind the MLP, which places the driver at the center of the room. I've found that a 50hz crossover results in the smoothest response. This sub is a curtain shaker. The wood beam ceiling creaks on low bass notes. I wish Monoprice would offer a custom cabinet finish upgrade for this sub. I would have happily paid a $500 premium for stained wood veneer. BTW, I chose this almost entirely based on your comprehensive review, and couldn't be happier with the performance. Happy Holidays.

I have a small home theatre and I am currently using a 10" B&W subwoofer. When set to reference level, it is only at about 10 o'clock on the volume knob. I have occasionally turned it up to 12 o'clock when I really wanted to pump up the bass. Considering this, is there any point in upgrading to one of the more powerful subwoofers from this video? Wouldn't that mean I would just have to turn their volume knobs even lower if I want to listen at reference levels? Or do the bigger subs give more of a bass feeling (chest thumping bass) at the same volume levels? Thanks!

Some nice options on that list. Well done Audioholics. I recently switched from dual SVS PB13 Ultra’s to dual Martin Logan Dynamo 1600x’s and couldn’t be happier. There is just something about the sound of a sealed box that can’t be replicated by a ported box imo. Not sure why, but ported subs tend to create more annoying vibrations/rattling in my room. The 1600x’s being half the size was also a very welcome change. The Dynamo 1600x is a beast for a smaller sealed box and can be had for well under $1500 with minimal effort, at least in Canada anyway. It performs similar to subs like the SVS SB4000, HSU ULS-15 and REL HT/1508 Predator. Also comes with ARC room correction and app control similar to SVS. Highly recommended!

I’m surprised you don’t have the JL Dominion d110 for $1100 in that list. For someone who is installing JL in wall subs I’d think you’d consider the Dominion. For the price, the output, the form factor, JL would be a very comparable sub. Two Dominions with their wireless transceiver out of a MiniDSP would be my first recomendation to anyone. And at that price and form factor it would be even easier to place 3 or 4 of them.
