Does your large paintings sometimes feel lifeless or dull?
Chances are you need more texture and layering in your work. Take a look over my shoulder as I work on these two paintings. See some of the many options you have available - what household items you can use and what texture effects you can create that will take your artwork to the next level.
The tools and techniques used in this video are:
TROWEL: Using a Trowel can give some really nice and unexpected texture.
PENCIL: Pencil on a long stick method.
PAPER application method - basically the paint is first applies to some paper and then pressed against the canvas.
POURING FLUID PAINT - fluid acrylics and acrylic inks are perfect for this.
I invest a lot of time and love in filming and editing the videos so I'm happy for your support. Please consider leaving a comment, a thumbs-up or subscribe to the channel if you would like to see more videos like this one :)

Thanks for sharing some great tools, that too everyday household items. Liked the idea of space between self and canvas; I think that would be useful to get a good real perspective. I will try these while working on my art works!

Hello Marie-Louise, I am loving the vibrancy of this one, the light and dark, the splashes of paint and sheer joy that you seem to derive from painting! Funnily enough, I have just found out that I am part Dutch after doing my dna chart and family tree recently. I have subscribed and am loving this art journey. From one arty ML to the other ;.). Happy Painting! xxx

Very interested to see how you tackle large pieces of work, thank you. Question:- Marie Louise I sometimes I struggle to keep my colours vibrant the more I layer have you any advice on this matter ?
@TheDanishPainter
@TheDanishPainter Жыл бұрын
Yes it can be tricky to keep the colors vibrant. Try to make sure that the layers are completely dry before adding more more layers. Also try looking at your paint to see if they are transparent or opaque (or somewhere in between) sometimes that plays a role as well.

Thank you, at last, sharing your tips on large canvas and watercolor paper! Your open basement studio space suggests that your personal painting preference is painting large, as I do. I encourage you to either create another channel focused on demonstrating how you paint large works OR to do more of these videos. To be honest, at some point even the most hesistant novice painter aspires to paint bigger pieces. If not now, then when? Please shift your channel's content to teaching your tips and techniques on larger paper or canvas. MHO, MLE, you've put up a lot of related videos that reinforce your process through repetition. Now, how about moving up and teaching your subs how to scale up your techniques, and handle the various challenges painting large presents? Perhaps start first by painting on 16x20, 18x24, 20x20 and so on up to 36x36 inches. The cost of small packets of watercolor paper is inexpensive. Unbelievably, I began painting on 22x28 acid-free poster board paper, and now I paint only large canvases and watercolor paper (36x36 and up). Again, I welcome these two-part videos because they are a departure from your sketchbook demos and showing us, perhaps for the first time, your painting practice. Thank you for this welcomed change in content! James

Thank you for your suggestions James. I want to share as much as possible for everyone - from beginners all the way to advanced level painters. My biggest problem is TIME! As in I need more of it... Lots more in fact... so that I could show and do all the things I want to share. And I would love to be able to have 2 channels but since I am the only one doing all the planning, painting, filming, editing, technical stuff and uploading I just can't see how I'll find the extra time to start another channel besides this one. Thanks again for your suggestions and for watching 🎨🎨
