You are good at storytelling and quite original in terms of style. You cover the things that are not "trending". It's nice to see a good and honest work in the times where KZfaq is flooded with clickbait elden ring spam. Keep it going 🙏

In my opinion, referring to Kaathe as a friend to humanity is in error. His influence led to the torture of Manus and the warping of the Abyss into little better than a hellscape that caused far more suffering the Gwyn ever did. All before Artorias arrived. Kaathe may have enlightened people to Gwyn's lies, but he only sought to create his "Dark Lord," not to benefit humanity in any way. His servants, the Darkwraiths, serve his goals by slaughtering humans alone, and his influence throughout the series is in treachery, lies, and murder. Kaathe was just as bad as Gwyn, if not worse.

I really dislike how most of the boss items in DkS was more or less useless or inferior to the stuff you could make yourself. I'm glad that changed in the other games.

That and streamlining the crafting to be more like more recent games are the only parts about Dark Souls I wish I could change that isn’t just bug fixes

its ironic considering Gwyn himself, like the Pygmies, Nito, The Witch, are all beings born of the dark. He was the greatest sinner against nature, even his own nature.

Man this was beautiful. I still can’t believe how Dark Souls can be that good. Lets imagine a world where the games stories aren’t that extensive. They are just alright. The games would still be legendary due to them being insanely well made. But then we add another level. A story, so complex and breathtaking it can’t be explained under many many hours of footage like this. Dark Souls really I something else. Yea and BloodBorne is peak too

Hello there!! Just joined the channel not long ago! Just finished this vid, and wanted to leave some feedback. First of all, excellent work!! Seriously, you did great editing, orating, and music choices were astounding!! Want to emphasize that it held me from beginning to end! Second, I found the idea of this being the perspective of the Pygmies and humans on the events that happened was excellent! That said, even discounting propaganda from Gwyn's own prophesies and policies, I noticed a few things I feel I should bring up. It is implied that Manus is indeed a Pygmy, but that he was otherwise unmarked by Gwyn's Dark sign, thus was immortal the same way humans were meant to be through the Dark Soul. Further, Manus was "Resting" under Oolacile, likely resting peacefully until those ABOVE him were talked to by Kaathe to find him and...well, given Oolacile was home of Golden Sorceries that likely were made with Gwyn's reign in mind, I imagine the people were far from kind, taking the amulet he treasured that we would eventually need to access the DLC in the first place. Thus Manus was sent into a rage, his soul resonating with his tormentor's own Dark, "corrupting" them until they were overwhelmed into the forms we see, both NPC and Humanities. This would bring about the Abyss, something I've long thought of as less of a place, and more something that forms when enough "Dark Souls" gather together and Frenzy, much like the Abyss of the 4 Kings and the Other of Manus. Ostensibly both were the same, but how the Chosen Undead reacts to then without the Abyss Walker Ring is telling of SOME kind of variance. Thus, I think they are more defensive barriers that house/rely on Dark rather than are a place proper to reach. Further, the fragments of Manus' Soul were expanded upon, and the perpetuation of the age of Fire's folly in Dark Souls 2...which you seemed to skip over entirely. There is good Lore there for those who seek it in Scholar of the First Sin Edition/and the DLCs. From there, yes the Pilgrims and Hollows do seek to bring about the Long Sought Age of Dark/Hollows, though in DS3 it's an "Ashen One", who rises. Likely once human, they were reduced to Ash trying to Link the flame but failing due to lacking Strength. (Not good enough to beat Soul Of Cinder). They have to accept the Dark Sigil to become Hollow, as they cannot after their deaths without it. The Sigil indeed could be fragments of Manus' soul, long after his Daughters in the DS2 DLCs were killed by the Chosen Undead of that time. Beyond that, I could see the rest of the explanation working well. As a final note, the Painter in the Painted World asks us what to name the Painting in the end. Either named after your character, which could be anything. Or, naming it "Ash", in honor of us, an Ashen One helping complete the painting, and a reminder of who helped bring about this wonderful place for those who hold the Dark Soul to dwell. I hope this has been worth your time if you read this far. TLDR: there be more Lore to explore, and I hope I pointed you in the right direction to find it, and enrich your understanding of Dark Soul's magnificent world!! Until then, Don't you Dare go Hollow!

Actually Artorias wasn’t a human he was a god like Gwen or perhaps a lesser version of one. But if you listen to Elizabeth she notes that artorias “has barely a murmur of dark.” He doesn’t have any dark in his soul because his soul is a fragment of light like the gods. The reason his soul is twisted in dark is because he was beaten by Manus and giving up the protective power of his shield to keep Sif safe led to his being twisted by the dark.

Your first sentence reinforces your second, no need to say "but". All humans are drenched in dark, they come from it. The form of the gods gave Humanity its shape, a deceptive, godly form. Gods and beings like them are not, and do not have the darkness within them.

In all my years of learning about and engaging with the story of Dark Souls, this has to be one the best explorations of it. Both easy to understand and follow (which is a feat given how complicated and patchworky the lore can be), but also incredibly passionate, especially given how you told it from and uplifted Humanity's perspective. Just really fantastic work!

Cool video, but it relies on a lot of suppositions and assumptions that, while suggested, are not comfirmed - rather, they are an object of ambiguity. Take everything here with a grain of salt. There are multiple instances I'd like to rebut, but doing so would require a whole 5 page essay, and this one point is already too long. What I'd like to point out iss that we do not know if Kaathe taught the Four Kings the art of Lifedrain to fight against Gwyn, or that they were predecessors to the Pilgrims. In fact, Lifedrain (through the Dark Hand) drains Humanity from the victim, which should only be present in the spawn of the Pigmy, not in the gods. This could imply that the Four Kings and the Darkwraiths fight other humans to gain power, which would play into the gods' (and perhaps "Frampt"'s) plan to oppress humankind. Or maybe it is so that a small group of extremely strong beings can overthrow the weakened gods, but in truth, the gods were already husks by the time the player explores Lordran. Even if the small group of powerful beings could create a world for humankind to thrive in the Age of Dark, it is likely that the oppression of the weak would occur again. This is further reinforced by the fact that the Sable Church, followers of Kaathe, erected a "Dark Lord" to rule over hollows, much in the same way that Gwyn ruled over all other peoples. And this vision of a hollow society with a dark ruler atop it might not be the Furtive Pygmy's ideal world, as the Pygmy distributed shards of its Dark Soul with all humankind, somewhat implying that they wanted a fair world where everyone could be equal (and this also ties into how the Abyss is the great equalizer). Also, while it would fit nicely with the rest of the bosses in DS1, it is not close to a fact that Manus is the Furtive Pygmy. Only fact is that the Abyss in Oolacile spawned from Manus and all the humanity surrounding what happened there, hence the title "Father of the Abyss."

Gwyn did not have the vision to see the world beyond his own order, unlike how humanity could only look ahead to the inevitable moment when Gwyn’s fire would finally end and their time would come, however that may be made

The dark sign is a pretty good metaphor for religion, right? All Mighty god fears what humanity can become, so it shackles their essence with a curse. Just as religion historically shackles humanity with dogma, under the pretense of order and control.

The serpents kaathe and frampt are primordial meaning before time. So the are simultaneous/before the ancient dragons. The serpent rings imply that a serpent has only not become a full dragon.

Nice video, really enjoyed it. But I do find it funny that you talk about analysing the trilogy and proceed to never mention Dark Souls 2, lol. I completely understand why you did it and agree with it, DS2 doesn't really align all that well with the rest of the story, or, at the very least, does not host any significant events that would ultimately influence the outcome seen in DS3. It gives some insight into what happened to the fragments of Manus' soul after being defeated in DS1, but nothing else I can remember.

Ugh. Yet another video that ignores the obvious. Gwyn was a good guy. He gave power generously and rewarded loyalty, and sacrificed his life to spare the world from the horror caused by the furtive pygmy when they scattered the dark soul instead of shouldering the responsibility of bearing it. The pygmy screwed everything up, not Gwyn. Sigh.

Lmao Gwyn dickriding Gwyn went against natural order of the world due to lust for power, he basically became the tyrant Dark existed from the very start of the Age of Fire, we're told about that in the opening cutscene, it wasn't created by Pigmy Moreover we see consequences of Gwyn's actions from constant linking of fire in DS3, even in DS1 it's obvious that the whole linking of the fire and chosen undead bullshit is just a facade that works to preserve Gwyn's order
