In episode three I explore the fascinating life of Titanic survivor, Violet Jessop. Violet is most famously known for surviving not only the Titanic disaster, but that of her sisters, Olympic and Britannic.
From terrible disease in her youth, to her troubles post Titanic. Violet's life is one of fascination and amazement, not only to those in the Titanic universe, but world over.

Sigh...Violet Jessop... Beautiful young lady. I don't know if having a crush on someone from 100 years in the past is the height of mental health, but then I don't recall ever being accused of sanity...

How nice this tribute to Violett is. I agree with previous comment that while Molly Brown was courageous, the "unsinkable" title obviously belongs with Violett! I'm going to read her memoirs. Thanks!

So great. Love your videos - I’m fascinated by how those on the titanic, who clearly survived - lived out their lives - as well as those associated with the titanic. I just found out the young boy who held the Titanic Disaster Great Loss Of Life newspaper, Ned Parfett , died in world war 1 never knowing the picture he was in is iconic - or did he even know there was a picture. More please more. Do you have a patreon? Would also love to hear more about Jack Thayer and Edith Russell so many more that I have no clue about. Thank you for all your hard work

I'm glad to see there's other Titanic nerds out there. I've been obsessed with it since my parents bought me a book called Chronicles of the 20th century when I was around 6 years old and there's still always new things I'm finding out 30 years later.

I really like the video you did on Ismay. I feel the same way. Hearst made him the villain in the papers and it continued ever since. Ismay did nothing I wouldn't have done. Thanks for all the episodes. Love your new channel!

Excellent, and very familiar. Having seen the film, and read Violet's book. I and my sister, who lived in Cambridge at that time, decided to try and find Violets Cottage. After an age, trying, the local village post Office gave us the info we needed. Back then , 2006 I think it was, the cottage looked far less modernised, and cleaned up. Accross the road, young green corn was about a meter high ,and came right down to the road, with no edging. The occupier of the cottage, was a mature man, who was very helpful, and invited us in; Again, the interior was far more rustic than shown in your photographs. The Garden too was a typical country Rose garden, with a pond, containing fish. The occupier said he'd had many visitors from all over the world, since the film and book came out. To our surprise, when i asked him were Violet was buried, he said in another village--( Hartest ) quite some miles away. We were also saddend to see that the grave , back then, was quite neglected. We cleared and cleaned it as best we could, and put some local flower's on it. It seems so fitting, that after all the publicity, that she should be so well hidden away and at rest.

What an amazing lady. There was a stoker that also survived all three incidents named Arthur John Priest.

And Priest survived two further ship sinkings! Unfortunately it meant he couldn't get further employment because he was seen as unlucky.

kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q7-iocinvtKZXX0.html you’ve probably already heard this audio interview with Violet Jessop, but just in case you haven’t here’s the link. It was uploaded just two weeks ago and I only just stumbled upon it. Instantly thought of your episode on her! Here she mostly talks about her experience on Britannic when she sank but does also talk a bit about her experience on Titanic as well. It’s crazy to actually hear her voice here! I never thought I’d hear her voice! It’s an amazing interview 🙏 hope you’re well 🙏

Yes I came across it during my research for this episode and I was blown away to actually hear her voice, it’s crazy, I was going to mention it in this episode but unfortunately the episode was long enough and I felt I couldn’t really fit anymore in.

Why did the Brittanic sink after only two of the bulkheads filling up? Weren't they designed to stay afloat with as many as four breached to the Sea? Maybe I'm wrong or misunderstanding or something lol just asking. ✌

What a great question. I didn’t go into much detail surrounding the sinking as I plan to do a whole episode on it in the future. From my understanding, the explosion caused damaged to four compartments, as well as the damage to the watertight door between boiler room six and five. However it is still believed that the damage was not sufficient enough to sink her. Britannic was on her way to pick up wounded and her portholes on her many wards had been opened to ventilate them. Five minutes after the initially explosion the ship had submerged enough for the water to reach these open forward portholes and this sudden influx of water, combined with the damage was enough to sink her. It is believed.
@MrDaiseymay
@MrDaiseymay Жыл бұрын
@@BeyondTheTitanic That is correct; I read another book about Brittanic, and that was the reason given for the very quick sinking, As you said, they had only just opened all these Porthole windows ( not a 5 minute job) and when the unofficial call to abandone ship came, the windows were not the first thing to think of.
