Recording of BHS Pennines Webinar from Thursday 4th November 2021 given by Phil Smith (Environment Agency) and Dr Barry Hankin (JBA Consulting).
Phil Smith presented "Catchment Sensitive Farming (CSF) and the EA need for HYPE" and Dr Barry Hankin presented "Technical detail and calibration of the CSF-HYPE model"
The Environment Agency and JBA Consulting have worked alongside the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) to develop a new version of their open-source semi-distributed hydrological water quality nutrient model ‘HYPE’ to evaluate the effectiveness of Catchment Sensitive Farming measures across England in the past 10 years and how these have influenced water quality. This presentation will also cover technical aspects of the CSF-HYPE model, such as calibration, and how the model has been used to assess potential future impacts of climate change on catchment sensitive farming practices.
The meeting was hosted by Ellen Broad and Chris Allman from the BHS Pennines committee.
