Recording of BHS Scottish Hydrological Group (SHG) Webinar from Thursday 20th January 2022 given by Lee Ruddick and Michael Stewart (Kaya Consulting), and Eric Gillies (cbec) titled 'Comparing 2D and 1D/2D flood models - bringing geomorphological and flood modelling together'.
Current best-practice for geomorphological modelling (in support of channel restoration works) is to use a 2D representation of the channel and overbank areas, while best-practice for flood studies tends to involve linked 1D/2D modelling. This presentation considers case studies where 2D models have been used to simulate both geomorphological processes and flood mechanisms and have been compared to results from 1D/2D models. Consideration is given to situations where this approach could lead to better integration of river restoration and flood studies.
The meeting was hosted by Mark Wilkinson and Michael Stewart from the BHS Scottish Hydrological Group committee.
