Great review, as usual. Would like to point out that you didn't mention the front row (esp. driver) seating space. As somebody who is 6'5, I was very shocked by how little leg and shoulder space there is in the Grand Highlander. By comparison, the Traverse has an incredible amount of leg and shoulder space for the driver. I'm not sure if the space would be worth a half point, but the difference is tremendous for tall people.

Another decent comparison review gents. I think you left out the under floor storage in the chevy, and while 'not significant' and extra inch of leg room in 2nd row is huge when you are over 6' tall (like most my family. One stat I would love to hear about is ease of getting into the 2nd row. I'm 6'3", and I can't get into 2nd row of a normal highlander without having to bend in awkward ways and then slouch when inside.

Fantastic review. you glossed over that the Grand Highlander has ventilated 2nd row seats (Chevy does not). Is there any way to do a mother-of-comparison video somehow of all the comparable 3 row SUV adding in the like of: CX-90, Santa Fe, Palisade, Telluride etc...? Even if it's more numbers based incorporating your scoring methods (which are very useful). Top vs top trim I think the extra power and efficiency of the GH would win me over. But I'd assume you wouldn't have to pay MSRP for the Chevy. Base vs base trim though, the Chevy hands down wins. Over 5K cheaper and includes a massive screen, 360 camera, etc. Don't know if it comes with standard power seats or liftgate though. Either way the Grand Highlander base model is quite expensive....

Y’all say it’s boring looking but I think the grand Highlander is beautiful. It doesn’t look boring to me! Some of us are loyal to Toyota and love the product. Sure some things are outdated or look a little cheap but I’ll take it over any Chevrolet! The ones saying “it’s boring” good, don’t buy it so there more for the rest of us to get 😂😂. Classic Toyota... unimpressive design that blends into the background which equals boring. Some of us are loyal to Chevy and lover their products, have never had an issue with them and wouldn't dream of owning a bland Toyota simply because it's "reliable" and has better resale value. I never understood that. Do you buy a Toyota to keep it forever or do you buy it to sell it in a few years? What's the point? Their all over priced and over hyped.
@MatthewTheCCMA
@MatthewTheCCMA 10 күн бұрын
@@owleye4510 see, I disagree. I don’t think that’s an unimpressive design. Yes I do keep my vehicles long-term, my current Corolla has 126,000 miles on it and plan on getting it to 200 K. My whole family owned General Motors products, my mom drove a Buick rendezvous, I drove a Chevrolet cobalt, we also had a Chevy lumina. A GMC Jimmy. The list could go on and on, yes, a few of them were not too bad, however, all of them had at least one problem that took them off the road before 150,000 miles. The Buick had a blown transmission, my cobalt blew a head gasket, I’m not sure what the issue with the lumina was. I’m very glad that you’ve had good experiences with Chevrolet products. However, many people do not. Before you even mentioned it I do maintain my vehicle, transmission fluid every 60,000 miles, coolant on time. I make sure to take care of my vehicle. However, Chevrolet has not taken care of me at all. Going over to the Toyota side I’ve had three different Toyota, all go over 100,000 miles and keep going with no problems whatsoever. Stick with what works for you 👍🏻

I like both of these vehicles, but I would ditch the hybrid max on the Toyota. I’d go with the Limited Hybrid. 35 MPG makes a big difference when comparing head to head. Slow and steady wins the race and less stops at the pump. When the Chevy gets a hybrid Z71 I’ll pull the trigger on that.
@ayushmalpeddi2793
@ayushmalpeddi2793 10 күн бұрын
True but the hybrid max powertrain can do 0-60 in 5.6 seconds and still get 25mpg combined. Could be worth it for anyone seeking more performance. I'd assume the normal hybrid is 2 seconds slower to 60mph although you'd get about 8mpg more in the real world. Either way dropping 50K+ on a new car and worrying about mpg that much is slightly silly
@benniewalker312
@benniewalker312 10 күн бұрын
@@ayushmalpeddi2793 can’t argue that the hybrid max is a good power train. All comes down to priorities and preferences. I’m closer to 60 than 30. Never been one to mash the pedal and give it the beans. In a perfect world I’d get the Lexus TX PHEV. Make my daily drive on Electric power only and still have a ICE for the 2-3 road trips out of state every year. I’d have to do a whole lot of miles before the $80,000 price tag paid itself off in gas savings. My biggest check marks are safety, reliability, comfort and cargo space. I’ll leave the drag racing to the young bucks. Still waiting on Subaru to put out a real Hybrid or EV I can live with. I got a few more years to see how the market shakes itself out. Main contenders right now are the Mazda CX-90 PHEV, the Toyota Limited Hybrid Grand Highlander and this Chevy Traverse makes a good case. (Just needs to catch up with a hybrid).

Multiply that by the national average gas price of 3.65 and you get about 3K in savings over 100K miles. Not that significant at all if you can afford to drop 50K+ on a new car and insure it haha. If you really care about saving money but a used car that offers 90% of these cars for 3/5th the price. Insurance will be less as well. That's how you save money if you really care.

The new Traverse and the GH were my finalist for purchasing a new vehicle. I ended up choosing the GH Hybrid XLE because of its price vs features(base model had all the features I needed and saved me almost $10,000 off top end model) and the gas mileage(I'm get 37.1 mpg- with 65%city/35% highway driving) seemed to hit home for me. My family has owned a Traverse(Gen 2) and I loved it but the transmission problems we had(replaced transmission at 75,000 miles)made me hesitant to go all in on the new one. I don't think the consumer can go wrong with either of these choices in the segment.

I know most ppl think Toyota are the most reliable car company but I doubt that. I have a 2006 Toyota avalon, my father has 2006 Previa, 2016 Innova and we had so many issues during the year including losing the engine twice Having a turbo and batteries in extreme hot weather in the middle east could have a lot of issues over the years (We do not have Grand highlinder at the moment and not sure if the dealer will provide it or not) For the normal highlander (which is available) they claim the mpg is 45 mpg for AWD hybrid 2.5 l but the actual you would get is around 25 I have 2016 citadel V8 durango that is starting to have some issues and I am thinking of trading it for a new car I did not like the Honda pilot (looks old) or Nissan Pathfinder (too small) or Mazda CX9 (captain chairs in the full option and gearbox issues) I do not like the 4 cylinders, I think I might go with the 6.2 AT4 Yukun altough it is way too big for a daily driver Or I might just fix the durango and get a small car for daily driving What do you think?

Make sure you tell your mother happy mother's Day and by the way I'm picking the grand Highlander. The Chevy traverse is nice but no no heated and cooled third row seats. Second row seats no he didn't cool and no rear window sun shades. I like it but it's missing all the luxury features that the Toyota grand Highlander have
@G-Rated
@G-Rated 9 күн бұрын
Luxury features? The Toyota doesn’t even come with a driver’s auto dimming side mirror. It also doesn’t boast a semi autonomous driving system that will go around traffic all on its own, neither does the Grand Highlander offer power third and second row folding seats from the rear so you don’t have to walk around to do so manually in the rain. I feel that Chevy slightly understood the assignment better and which features to include to make for a better premium experience overall.

Nice, but you should have compared the GMC Acadia instead of the Chevy Traverse because Denali trim is much more on par with the Grand Highlander, very similar design cues front and back, standard 20" wheels and offers a head-up dislpay. That would have been a much more... apples to apples and perhaps a more challenging comparison.

I’d have to go with the all new Chevy Traverse. I can live with its fuel economy and the lack of HUD or fog lights. It’s better packaged and the design looks more of a Lexus than the Grand Highlander for the same money. Reliability should be about the same but the maintenance on that hybrid could be more expensive over the years and I can’t stand living with a CVT transmissions or an ancient feeling 6-speed during my daily commute. I’ll take the better styling, better quality, similar reliability and better interior experience over one less trip to the pump easily. I like the ventilated rear seats and sunshades in the GH but I prefer the second row in the Traverse and the way they’ve divided the storage between exposed and underfloor storage. There are some things I prefer to be tucked away and out of sight, so I appreciate that secret cargo behind third row in the floor. Getting Tahoe levels of power seat controls at the rear and Tahoe levels of space without paying Tahoe money.

Have a 24 AWD Traverse coming! Looks WAY better inside and out and has better car seat options as well as entry to third row for the kiddos. Plus, GM chassis engineers are the best in the business when it comes to ride comfort and handling. I have had Lexus and Toyotas in the past and they are sloppy and lack character, and my Lexus shut down losing all power to brakes and steering while driving 60mph through a city coming up to an turn, Lexus said nothing was wrong with my car...left it at the store and bought a Ford that day across the street. Never getting a Toyota or Lexus again.

I have a 22 Pathfinder and really like it, however, it's significantly smaller than the traverse and GH. The Pathfinder is perfect for a family of 4, but IMO isn't quite large enough for a family of 5 or more. I'll also add that the Pathfinder in SL trim is a fantastic value.

@@michaelmi7903 I’ve been in the latest Pathfinder and I think the space is good enough for a family of 5 or even a family of 6, I agree with you that the SV and SL are the best values in the lineup however if budget allows I would go for the Platinum as it’s competitive with luxury SUVs like the Acura MDX for say (ofc the MDX is gonna handle a lot better tho but the Pathfinder does have more space)
