Chris asked for a Speed Triple RS with clip-ons and a bikini fairing, looked what Triumph had planned for 2022, the Speed triple RR.
We headed to Spain for our first ride of the new Triumph, stunning roads and the private Ascari circuit gave us a chance to really put the bike through its paces.

I’m really enjoying Chris’ reviews at the moment, he strikes that wonderful balance of clearly being a master of his craft with appropriate knowledge of the bikes you would expect of somebody who’s talking about something they are passionate about, and a big kid that makes him relatable. Neavsy at MCN says the engine on this lacks character and the brake feel is shit.....oh well they'll probably paint it in special colours and charge 20K........hope quality control is good - lots of people swearing off Triumphs due to issues and poor customer after care.

I like it. With things like the busa out there, having a touch of 'beast mode' in a lineup is a good idea - hope they sell well. Seems to me the 1100/1200 area works well for those who want decent power but probably don't find the track. This one should be a great canyon carver. Good move by Triumph to skip past the one liter mark.

I think this is going to be an absolute belter. My biggest complaint of superbikes over the last 20 years is how track focussed they have become. They make massive compromises on the road for a tenth here and there on track in stock trim but if you're doing regular track days or racing it you're goign to change a lot of the bits that make it extreme anyway. Remember the early Fireblade? It was pretty much as fast as anything on a track but it still had a boot, a comfy seat and riding position and was tractable, geared properly and made a brilliant fast road bike. I also seem to remember it being the best selling bike for a while. This makes me think of those. A nice, large, mostly flat torque curve from a relatively oversized engine in a chassis thats track able but road focussed. I'm even ok with the price. Yes its high but its also got some quality kit on it to justify that price and compared to some its knocking on £5k cheaper. So you could get this and a cheap track bike with the savings. I would like to see a slightly more stripped down version without the electronics and other bits it really doesn't need at a lower price but for now this is fine.

Awesome review man. That bike seems equally excellent. I think striking the perfect balance is a master-stroke from Triumph. 😊 I'm not a fan of super-nakeds and at over 50 getting a bit over superbikes. This is definitely an answer.

As always, I really enjoy Chris’s ability to clearly and concisely communicate his analysis of a new bike, in a way that both helps potential customers decide where the bike fits into their list of bikes to consider and also speaks directly to more experienced riders who are mentally comparing its characteristics to bikes they are familiar with. I think one type of customer for this bike would be someone who owns full-on sports bikes and loves riding them on track and who is looking for something similar with tamed down ergonomics and performance around town and on the road. I think the styling looks great, evidenced by some of the footage of the biked leaned away from the camera on track. Another thing: You always notice, hanging out trackside between sessions, that Triumph triples with good exhaust systems have a unique, fantastic sound, just as you can tell when an RSV4 or R1, or a Ducati L-Twin or V4, fly by.

This is definitely in my top picks for a 2022 bike - it's just going to be down to seat time for me. I had a 2007 675 as my track bike and it was simply the best thing I've ever ridden - even after trying other purpose built track bikes. I've never had a Triumph as a "daily rider" and I don't have any experience with the dealer network or warranty claims, so it's something to consider.
