Bill's great. Years ago I ran into him on the street outside of the venue where I saw him perform at and asked for a picture. Despite that my friend was slow to figure out my camera, he was very patient and friendly even though I probably delayed him from getting to wherever he was headed because a bunch of other fans noticed us trying to pose for my pic for so long lol

I find that I am much more interested in meeting someone of a different cultural background than my own. My ex-wife is Puerto Rican, and fortunately I am still very close with her family (and her as well). So I hope to keep expanded my world with an open and inviting mindset.

I absolutely adore your comments at the end. I'm pretty sure things will be ok in the long run. We just need to work on it. I've been in an interracial relationship. I can tell you that things have come a long way. When we walked down the street holding hands, we got dirty looks from everyone. Black guys didn't think I was good enough for her, and white girls felt the same. We were loud and proud. It was helpful that one of my best friends was also in an interracial relationship. We turned heads when we double dated. 🤣

Where I grew up long ago interracial dating was a big taboo. It shocked older people & was strongly discouraged, especially by my grandparents. That ticked me off. If I could relive those years I would date the black girls I had a crush on. Or at least I would ask them.

Great Reaction, as always K S O :) When I passed thru' Harlem on a YSA/Canadian holiday in 1979 the Greyhound Bus told us, under NO circumstances, to get off at Harlem and in those days irt was not Multi-Cultural at all. I am from London and I understand it is now more mixed which can only be good :)

Way way back in the mid 60's we moved to a different part of the city and a friend of mine came to spend the 1st night with us. He saw a bus depot and wanted to walk there to look at the buses.( I don't know why we were 13 at the time.) What we didn't know was that the area was segregated . Cross the railroad tracks and you were in a different city and the part was all black vs. white on the other side. To make a long story short we were pickup by the police and held till my parents came.

You know, I think the anecdote about his black friend repeating the main conversational point has a lot to do with "Call-and-Response"-type Ecclesiastical Chant - as in, Precentor-Choir: where the Precentor intones the main theme, and the Choir harmonically builds upon it with a floridly melodic harmonious embellishment of a selfsame vocal chant-creation, so to speak. I think it hearkens back to Antiphonal Singing in the Early Church, unless I'm mistaken. It appears his friend was doing double-duty as an individual personal applicator of both Choir A and Choir B within the same individual personal corporeal locus of rational biological habitation. Hehehe. This is what a deranged loner of a dude tends to do when he has too much time on his hands, In general. 😊😊😊

Similar things were happening in the California Vietnamese community back in the 90’s. My wife & I would get looks and occasional comments, 98% from the Viet people. It’s gotten way better nowadays, now that it’s not such a rarity.

I have been married to a black woman for over 20 years. Its never been an issue. At first, when we dated, I thought people would have a problem, but nope. No issues, you just got to keep open minded. Stop thinking in stereotypes. Being a white guy, a long time ago....we were under the impression that black girls wanted nothing to do with us like that. Nothing is further from the truth. There are plenty of them that are/were totally open to it, just a lot of them are more afraid of what THEIR community or family will say.

I'm from western Europe and I had a girlfriend who lived in Toronto, Canada, we are both white, but she had grown up in the Ukraine, I still had to deal with a pretty big cultural divide. That relationship failed, she was clearly in a difference place then I was mentally. Same happens with relationships between 20 and 30 year olds. Or 30 and 40 year olds, sometimes the divide is bigger than you'd expect and those relationships fail.
