This guy is the OG. He was talking about how war for profit is the main reason for war in the modern age. He was equally opportunity as well. He dished it out to both the Bush and Clinton administrations and was an advocate of world peace by psychedelic experiences. I'm hit your official IG with a Bill Hicks request.

@@CyberiusT Yeah, I feel you. F451 was exciting! The only other mandatory reading I remember enjoying was "The Hobbit". Everything else was a slog. I still remember one in particular that made me want gouge my eyes. "The Good Earth", probably one of the worst things I've ever read. Were it voluntary, I would have never made it past the first chapter.

Check out the clip of when talk show host Dave Letterman has Bill Hicks' Mom on and apologizes to her. Back before Hicks died, he had been on Late Night w/ David Letterman. They pre-recorded Bill Hicks' set before the show, and when David Letterman saw the set, he decided to pull it from the broadcast because he thought the topics Hicks was talking about were too controversial. After Hicks died, Letterman had Hicks' Mom on the show, publicly apologized, and played the set in it's entirety.

Waffle House is a surprisingly southern experience wrapped up in a breakfast diner. I had a friend from California accompany me to my hometown Waffle House once, during which, that friend leaned over to me and whispered, “Are they for real?” Could not believe these people actually existed, like we must have been on a movie set or something.

1) "What are you reading for?" is both hilarious and terrifying. 2) Pancakes - all you need to make them at home is a frying pan, which everyone has, no specialized equipment required. 3) "Hee Haw" (because it looked like you didn't get the reference) was a TV show that aired from the late 60s for a couple of decades. Country motif with comedy, music, etc.

First time watching your reactions. Have to say what a cool surprise to hear you discuss books and recommend "fahrenheit 451". Never read it but it's always been on my list. Might just go get it from the library now you've put it back in my head. "1984" is a great book, also "brave new world" which may be in the same vein. I feel a recommendation in return is warranted so if you get the chance, or the inclination, try pretty much anything written by Graham Greene - but some of my favourites are "travels with my aunt", "the end of the affair" and "the comedians". I just love the characters - so imperfect, so human. The way he wrote about human condition, with all our vulnerabilities and fuck ups, made me feel closer to people. We're all just trying to figure it out as we go along and there's no guidebook. Regards from Ireland, best of luck.

When it was recorded Letterman wouldn't let it air, most likely it was the joke about killing Billy Ray Cyrus, but who can say for certain. To be fair, in the past, books were often read for pleasure. And just as many of them can be equated with modern cinema, music and other "empty content" of which today is in abundance. There are days in some people's lives when a couple of hours of objective experience, work, or random circumstances can give a person wisdom that he would not find in hundreds of books. I also read a dozen books at most, but about a hundred more and closed after reading a few pages. There are plenty of bad books too.

Fair enough, nobody should shame you for not reading but at the same time, anyone can make time to read. Don't make up excuses, if you want to read you can read ;) I work in contruction but find academic pursuit fulfilling, at home I don't have a lot of time cause I cook food with my Fiancée and want to spend my time with her not buried in a book with the little drew time I have, so when I'm at work, I read a little bit on my 15 min break, and a bit more on my later 30 min break while eating It's doesn't seem like much time but I've read plenty of books using just that little bit of my work day everyday:) This isn't me having a go at you, more encouraging you, if reading is something you want to do then you can do it, just need to put a bit if effort in :)

@@zall9049 no, not just in the past. A book is a medium, just like cinimea, just because it's a book doesn't tell you anything about what a particular book will be like. Just like some movies are "bad boys 2", others are "planet earth by David Attenborough", while others are straight up pieces of art like "2001 a space odyssey" or "enemys" or they can be a piece of shit like whatever the latest January horror movie was So yeah you're right In saying many books are bad just as many are good, but what's your point? Doesn't mean oeoe should avoid reading The thing is no-one should shame someone cause they don't enjoy to read and don't do it often, that's fine, but feels just as ignorant to say that you can gain the same knowledge and wisdom as just about any book just through working or having your own personal life experiences, almost as if your saying books don't offer much. Life experience is invaluable, but the reason we as human started writing was so that we could share our collective wisdom with each other, so that all of humanity can join in the oursuit of wisdom and we don't have to work everything out individually. Ever heard the saying "2 brains are better than 1", well books are the sentiment of that statement taken to its extreme. Reading and writing is something uniquely human, the fact when we are feeling a bit lost in life we can pick up books orginally written by philosophers who lived thousands of years ago and find invaluable life advice and wisdom within, that can help us navigate our lives in the present day is absolutely amazing and shouldn't be taken for granted or pushed aside so easily

Well, there will only be more people who do not understand why someone opens books in their free time. With the current traditions of social order, people will not en masse strive for self-education. Capitalism, cruiser to my bay, our common road to hell

"Mandatory Marijuana" is a video of a great bit by him you could react to. It's part of a 30 minute special, HBO one-night stand, which is great. But you can find the shorter video by searching his name & "Mandatory Marijuana."

I like your videos and being an historian (from Amsterdam) with special interest in Romans and Greeks, it is interesting you have also an interest in that. But about books. The famous 19th century German writer Heinrich Heine wrote: "those who burn books will in the end burn people."

Bill was Great. I read a quote recently, I forgot by who - "A man who can read and doesn't is as smart as a man who can't read." On the subject of Waffles V Pancakes. All depends on whether that morning I'm in a fluffy disks of cake mood or and airy crispy disk of cake mood. Topping pretty basic, butter, maple, sometimes a jam.

For me it’s butter & maple syrup. Never a jam (although I nearly always consider it)

@@NoProtocol works well with Waffles, no syrup with it. Have never understood chocolate or whipped cream or any other BS.

Waffle House is a glorious chain of mediocre food. It's mostly truck stop or after the bars have closed kinda food. Some of the food can be great but it's usually pretty hard on you. Worth trying.

I consider Bill Hicks to be one of the best from the 90s. Richard Pryor or Carlin would have to be the best ever.
