In the 4th book Zaphod Beeblebrox sets off to find the man who rules the Galaxy and in a twist of fate, actually finds him. Seems to be in good hands. Or so I think. Has there been any changes between his time and ours? The trump followers are just the new form of tea partiers and John Birchers, antifa is just the new form of occupy wall street and hippies, the rich keep getting richer and screwing with everyone, the war machine keeps turning, the planet is still getting pumped with pollution, and America is still fighting the Russians and the Chinese. Seems we have just been following the usual course.
@Lunch_Meat
@Lunch_Meat 2 жыл бұрын
@@CaddyJim hey, congrats on your lack of reading comprehension. I wasn't saying that the antifa people are the EXACT SAME INDIVIDUALS as the occupy wall street people. Do you understand that difference? I'd be surprised if you did because you also missed George Carlin a point when he complained about the stupidity of earth day. He said it wasnt people who care about nature that care about that, it's people who care about themselves. He said that pollution and global warming is real, but that the earth will be fine. It's humans who will die. That's very different than saying a concern for pollution is stupid. But, again, your reading comprehension doesn't seem to support you being able to notice that difference. Which is ok, because it seems you were basically using these predictable and over used positions to argue, at a length that is far longer than needed, that you don't believe in climate change and that you have opinions about immigration for reason X, Y, and Z. Even if reason X is debatable and reason Z is outright false. So you keep doing you my guy. Keep misreading things so that it's easier to support your own beliefs and keep arguing for what you believe in. Lord knows the world needs someone that everyone else can look down on after all.

Your question at 3:49 "I wonder if questionable character is a prerequisite for being a politician or if being a politician results in questionable character". The correct answer is "being a SUCCESSFUL politician necessitates making questionable choices which call into question your character". And the reason for that is simple: MONEY. The money in politics ultimately ruins it so that only those with the most of it can win campaigns. Not only does money, power, and prestige tend to have a corrupting effect on those few who attain it, but the elites tend to collectively decide who else will become a future elite. If a politician's vision is too threatening to the elite class, they're going to do everything in their power to destroy them. But if it's someone they can work with, someone who's campaign they can financially support in exchange for favors, then that's who they're going to go with. And that's what you see at the local, state, and national level in the United States. The RNC, the DNC, super pacs, corporate campaign financing, special interest groups, etc. There's only two teams in this country who are willing to provide platforming and campaign financing to political candidates. They're both corrupt and they both manipulate specific demographics using the power of their purse and platform. If you don't play for one of them you're SOL as a political candidate. That's where your corruption begins! The "good" politicians don't have very long political careers. Those careers are usually sabotaged by corporate interests and special interest groups who don't want "good" politicians. They want politicians they can control.

"In 1905, Teddy Roosevelt unsuccessfully attempted to get Congress to outlaw all corporate political contributions". Although it was later successfully done, it was weakly enforced, and all the other mechanisms introduced along the years made the situation better. Or that's it looks. Because the "dark money" is the same thing really, just not on paper. Politics is just business, and whomever has the most wins.

George is one of the all-time legends of comedy. Anyone that would be on his level isn't likely to be doing something similar to what George was doing. That's just part of what defines a legend is that they were doing something in a way only they could. Carlin and Cosby are by far my favorites, with the latter of course now being anathema. There are so many good ones though. Bill Burr, Dave Chapelle, Mitch Hedburg, Norm Macdonald, Bill Hicks, Bernie Mac, Rodney Dangerfield, Richard Pryor, etc, etc, etc.... Lastly, Jeff Foxworthy has probably sold more comedy albums than any comedian ever and somehow almost never gets mentioned when the greats start being discussed. I find that curious.

George as always hit the nail directly on the head. Our political system has become a business dominated by two corporate structures masquerading as political parties funded by big money special interests and our carefully pre-selected "choices" at election time, especially during presidential elections, have been reduced to choosing between a excrement sandwich on dark bread with mustard or one on light bread with mayonnaise.

Been listening to George all my life. The first half of his career was wonderful, silly, word play and genius. He did bits about football and baseball. Where you keep your stuff. Dirty words. As he got older he got more political and I think he was pretty disappointed in mankind. But I still always felt like inside he really hoped that his humorous negativity would inspire people to prove him wrong. To be insightful and make a change in the world. He would have been happy to have to go back to talking about all the foods on the buffet line and doing the hippy dippy weather. Check out his old stuff for a different experience of George. I got to see him live once. 1988 I think. So glad I shared an auditorium with him. Great channel.

I have watched George Carlin for many years, and enjoy watching reactions by people who understand what he is saying. Most reactors spout something after blah blah blah. They are getting paid for views so it doesn't matter to them what was just watched. It is nice to see someone break down, and really get what he was talking about. Someone who was actually educated well as I believe myself was is fun to listen to. I also have the framed poster that is in all the videos of the musicians from the past. Watching these reactions is the only time I have seen it anywhere else. I got mine at a flea market in Daytona Beach, Florida.

He is German and speaks german, but the shows more relevant to the world are subtitled (and somewhat known in the wider english speaking youtube community). I looked into running for public office and was surprised to learn, at the town and state level they basically don't get paid. So right away you're going to be working 2 jobs and are exceptionally vulnerable to bribery and becoming disenchanted with the public who are essentially not paying them to do a job. At the large state and federal level I discovered that it is both legal and common for groups to offer very large amounts of money for voting favors. If you play ball you'll get rich, if you don't you'll be footing the bill for a very expensive job that doesn't pay you enough. The more responsibility your position, the bigger the bribes. Sure everyone can turn away a few thousand, even a million. But when you're tired, barely getting by, and someone offers you 10M to just sign a piece of paper?

It's all a matter of success as a politician; I think many of them start out with best intentions, wanting to contribute what they consider to be a positive way, but as they climb up the ladder they are pushed into the narrative or silenced, so they never reach the top with the message of hope and desire to do good they started out with.

I really like what you do and how you do it. Straight to the point, intelligent and eloquent. You are by all means a cool noodle. I don't know if you are interested at all in reacting to music but i would absolutely love to see how you react to the song Pisces by the band named Jinjer. Please don't do any research on them. Cheers ✌🏼

If kind of fell in love with you. A very smart young lady with an addicting smile, this is so refreshing to see and hear. As many of us I wish, Carlin would still be alive.

I grew up in the late 80’s - early 90’s… so OF COURSE I had light up shoes. Reeboks, I believe. I also had the ones with the little pump on the tongue that basically did nothing but were the absolute shit back in the day!

Lenny Bruce isn’t modern, but he’s the best at this form of comedy imo. Lewis Black has some similarities to Carlin and is pretty modern. Your channel is awesome! Great insights, super entertaining, dazzling smile.

Yep, there used to be shoes that lights up and make sounds like a fast and furious car from early 2000's

Dennis Miller (but his vocabulary will drive you to the dictionary) and Lewis Black (I don’t agree with his political views but he’s very funny) are 2 present-day comedians who come to mind.

A bit late to the party, just discovered/subscribed to your channel and liking it, a comedian like Carlin would be Bill Hicks. Definitely not modern, died in 1994, but together with Carlin the best comedians that ever lived imo. Edit: Nevermind, just saw your Hicks video. Also 1984, Fahrenheit 451, are you going to recommened all my favorite books? Is Schopenhauer next? Loving your channel.
