Swatching out Ceramic Kiln, Magnolia Mirage, Aqueduct, Abandoned Shipyard, Pennsylvania Slate, Pennsylvania Fieldstone.
I got these inks a couple of months ago but ended up getting COVID so I was out sick for a while. Sorry for my voice, I am better now but some of this footage is from early August :)

Keep in mind that the company is run by a two-brother team so your order may take a little time to get packaged up to ship, but they are also very nice so you may want to drop them a note (like I did) if it is taking longer than you thought :) Before I ordered, I actually reached out to them to see if they wanted to collaborate, and they said they didn't really do that but that they would send me an ink to try! So I received the Pensylvania Fieldstone in as a gift without obligation and then went on to buy the rest of the inks myself because I fell in love with them :)

I absolutely have the same problem with letter consistency. I drop letters all the time as well. You are not alone. These inks are stunning! I got my first Birmingham ink through an ink swap we did on our discord server and I LOVE the one I got. Looks like I'll be trying a few more in the future. How cool you now have that huge bottle of mystery ink!

Yeah, they answered me within 2 days and shipped it right out, it was probably a little over a week. My initial order took over 3 weeks to ship though, they are just a little 2-person shop but they did not mind me reaching out :)

My writing also differs from pen to pen. It's a bit annoying but it's always been like that for me. Beautiful inks!!

@@jannahlyon Different! I bought the Canterbury Raisin, Monongahela, and Sunburst. CB is a violet ink with a little bit of shading. It looks pink in Fine nibs, but more of a red violet on broader nibs. Monogahela (named after a river in Pennsylvania) is a bright blue ink with a hint of green. Has very good shading. Sunburst is somewhat dark orange ink in broad nibs, but more of a gold/orange in finer nibs. Some shading but the gradient isn't as specacular like Monogahela and looks "flat" on fine nibs. I find them all a bit dry when compared to Sailor and Private Reserve inks so Medium and above is the way to go, but that's just me. The colors make up for it because they''re just the right hue! Seriously thinking of getting an Everlasting, Delicate and Twinkle from them one of these days.

I have the same problem with skipping letters, really makes deciphering my handwriting later on interesting. Really liked the look of the proper ceramic kiln, tempted to get some for myself.

Your 1st ceramic kiln looks like mine.Of this bunch Abandoned Shipyard is my favorite. In heavy swatches, it haws some pink undertones.

The mystery ink looks like their Boysenberry swatch to me. I flip/skip letters too. For me it's mostly when I'm trying to get things down quickly before I get distracted and forget.

Yay on rewatching, glad it is helpful :) I still don't know what the mystery ink is - if it is actually a real one that was mislabeled - but it is pretty!

@@jannahlyon yeah I am not sure. Carnation came to mind but the shading looks different. It is a very pretty color. I think it was just a bad mix maybe something was missed or added wrong. It would be cool to know though.

love this video, got the same inks as you, CMYK for mixing (Abandoned Shipyard for K, it's also one of their foundational inks), also a leftie! can't wait for the next one (PS i built a mixing excel sheet if you/anyone here want to reproduce existing B'ham recipes)

Your mystery ink looks very much like Victorian Plum, which is one of my favorites. Hydrangea is lighter and more blue. Enjoy!

If you add a drop or two of that Fieldstone to the Magnolia, I believe you'll find that 'mystery' color.

TL;DR: Left-handed underwriter here! I *do* make letters in different ways without trying to do so. Maybe a primary life lesson for us was to improvise our way through a backwards world. It seems like my brain just randomizes among letterforms it has learned are equally correct because it wants to speed along with meaning rather than form. While language is innate to humans, writing is not, so I suppose it follows that we think faster than we write, with muscle memory controlling hand movement and the left hemisphere tossing together language. At least with keyboarding, it's easy to fix mistakes. While I'm crazy for fountain pens, Frixon is my work-a-day method since I can make some of my blunders disappear if I can make my eyes see what's on the page instead of my brain again speeding ahead because it remembers what it thought while I was writing. As to ink: I LOVE these, especially the Abandoned Shipyard that would look great on a page with some Chrysan Themum (my guess for the mystery ink, too). Very much looking forward to your mixes. And thank you for continuing to make videos for us during your recovery. I hope you're truly well very soon.

That is really interesting about the brain being faster than the hand, I think my is always skipping ahead and my hand just can't keep up - great idea with using the Frixon :) I have tried to slow down when I write with fountain pens, but I also think I have it in my mind that there will be too much ink if I write slower - I feel pressure to write faster when I use a FP as I have some fear of pooling ink or something! I am really liking the Abandoned shipyard, it is an interesting color for sure - I am editing my mixing video to post soon and I have enjoyed playing with its green qualities.

The first ink is more blue than green! Teal should lean a little more to green than this ink.

Yeah, it is definitely a blue but it does lean a little more towards the green than I thought it would, I should have bought a blue that leaned towards the red instead of the green for mixing with the others :)
