A skillet holder is the perfect camp fire cooking accessory to go with the fire irons we made previously. This skillet holder is forged from one piece and is adjustable for proper positioning over the campfire.

By far the best smith on KZfaq (shhh don't tell the other smiths I sub to) 😉. Always showing every step of the process and always making things even a beginner like me can handle. You would make an excellent teacher John, I would pay to go to CO and take a class or 2. Much gratitude for all your hard work and time to share your craft with the rest of us. 👍

Bon appétit ! I just came back from holydays in the USA, hiking and camping in the Yellowstone National Park and the Badlands, and I have to say that all the back country camping sitting by the fire or the river, enjoying these beautiful landscapes really was something... Amazing country, so much wildlife and great space, If that doens't make you want to cook on a camp fire I don't kow what does !

Great, thanks, now I want some eggs. LOL I was thinking some sort of U-shaped bend to hang it from the camp-fire irons, but hey, this works too. The U-shaped holder could fall off sideways, but it could be added to a previously set up set of irons without disassembling everything. Food for thought.

Never forged or used a forged skillet, but I have a carbon steel skillet that I use a lot. It's like made in China or whatever, but it's just mild steel, so that really doesn't matter, it's nice and thick and it heats up so well. It's way better than my cast iron, and a lot lighter, although I have some nonstick aluminum pans, and there's that difference, but I still love my steel pan the best.

I"m more into the bushcrat/backpacking side of things. As of late, I've been thinking of making a "squirrel cooker" using a single straight upright, and the pigtail being in the center of as horizontal piece, having a skillet holder on one end and a pot hook on the other. The trick being that the horizontal bar needs to be flipped to change from one end to the other. I'd be losing the ability to adjust in and out over the fire, something which could be accomplished by swinging the pot/pan on the upright, will adding the ability to easily adjust up and down, which in my experience are more important. As I haven't fired my forge up in years, I've yet to create a proof of concept design.
