There is something very satisfying to me about practicing solo bushcraft while camping alone in the woods. It is a chance to unwind and enjoy nature and the peace that is in the woods. Solo camping is not for everyone as some people may not enjoy being alone in the woods, however for some, a solo overnighter may be the perfect opportunity to get away from the stress of daily life and recharge undisturbed in the woods. I hope you will come along with me and enjoy the sights and sounds from my camp as I practice solo bushcraft while camping alone in the woods.

I would NOT watch a 38 minute video from any other Bushcrafter but you. I tried to watch a 38 minute video from David Canterbury once, but after an hour and forty-five minutes I finally gave up. You ROCK, Matt. Now, what the hell should I do with this handful of smalls and log I gathered for you?

Matt, can I hand on a tip? If you have to collect SMALL timber, carry a 2.5kg (5lb) paper flour bag. It folds up flat very nicely, it has a gusset and you can actually IRON and fold it flat so its not much bigger than a postcard and about as thick. But ASTONISHINGLY strong. I also carry the little 1kg one folded into the big one and the little one can just be placed on the fire and lit. It holds all your kindling together. Also, I carry in the bottom of my kit the lid of a largeish tin so if the ground is damp I can put the lid on the ground and put the basic kindling on top of it.

I hear that! It is some times hard to get them to collect it! In the time that they pick up one or two pieces, I will be sitting by the fire with a stack of wood ready to go :) I teach a Pathfinder Youth Group monthly and they never look happy when I say "collect fire materials!"

I make last minute decisions to head out to the woods myself. My folks bought me that exact same back pack when I was 13. I passed it down to my oldest son when he was 14. The pack is well made and over 40 years old. Great Video. God Bless

There's good reason for the heightened senses! Yesterday evening I was out camping and getting ready to cook when I heard shuffle and got the feeling I should watch what came over the hill. Over the hill walks a hog. I don't care if you like guns or not, you become Doc Holiday when you see a hog staring you down.

I’m a 23 y/o male and carry a handgun when I camp (technically I carry it everywhere but whatever). There’s nothing wrong with wanting to carry a firearm until you’re more comfortable. Truly the only thing I’ve had to use it on was a rattlesnake, but I carry it to handle hogs. If you’re concerned about people you may run into that’s a whole different ballgame, shooting someone in the woods in self defense could get legally hairy imo. All that aside, just talk some friends into going with you as often as possible. I’ve found camping with my buds to be very relaxing and a great bonding experience.
@blackhatbushcraft
@blackhatbushcraft 4 жыл бұрын
I truly appreciate you you taking the time to tune in and I understand completely where you are coming from. Honestly, I would recommend to you to carry a firearm if you are going solo in the woods however, if you aren't comfortable with going solo, don't feel bad at all. Trust your gut and do what feels right. It may be that camping with others is what is best for you and there is nothing wrong with that at all :) Just being out there is what is important whether solo or group camping. Take care!

Thanks for another great video. No need to worry about the noise of city or town cars. I have the same issue where I live. Good hammock and tarp setup. One thing I bought for my tarp is a Wise Owl Outfitters Hammock Sleeve. I cut my the tarp ridge line the total length of the Hammock and straps stretched out. Using the Wise Owl Outfitters Hammock Sleeve I can easily set up my tarp in high wind conditions, once the tarp ridge line is secure the tarp is secure making it easier to tie out. when its time to pack up. just slide the hammock skin back over the tarp, fold it in half and roll it up then wrap the ridge line around it to keep it together. this works for me and made my setup and take down time much quicker. Just a thought if you didn't already know.

I use a 6x6 piece of stainless chainmail with a hang ring in one corner to do camp dishes. Works great for cast iron skillets too. It's light, takes up a negligible amount of room and makes dishes way easier. Set the pan upside down in the fire and use the mail to scrape it out after its burnt.

Good Morning Brother Matt ! I've Never Been The First To Watch A New Video . . . Until Today. After Watching It Through, 197 Others Had Viewed It Also. Another Awesome Video From The Woods Mister, Thank You. Here's Something You Might Try, Works Well For Me. Stop In A Cracker Barrel, Have Some Pancakes With One Extra Syrup. Then, Take The Empty Bottles Home, Clean Them Out And Refill One With Olive Oil. Use Another One To Carry Out Some Popcorn Seeds For A Mid-Day Or Bedtime Snack In The Woods. The Glass Sidewall Are Quite Thick Enough, They Will Not Break. You Mentioned The Early Bird Gets The Worm. True. But It Is The Second Mouse That Gets The Cheese From The Trap. :-) Do Not Rush Anything When Out In The Woods, Enjoy Those Moments. God Bless, Darrell

well I have to say I'm proud of you. Cowboy coffee. No sissy geopress, french press, filters, etc. That's how it should be. Save on stuff you have to carry.

I do my prep - mis en plas - at home and take food ready to cook with me. I like to have omelettes so a jar with the eggs in it is good and then a plastic with the rest of the stuff, peppers, tomatoes, etc and a small plastic bottle of oil.

That pine behind you is a long leaf pine isn't it? I live in Wayne County NC and I have those trees all over the place. Great video and keep up the great work. Its inspiring.
