On this "How To" video, I throw a few mods on the Yamaha R6! Mine's a 2014 model.
I've disliked the stock rear fender since the day I bought the bike. It just goes against the design and style of the bike! Sticks out like a sore thumb. Natural answer was to eliminate it! So I got to looking and found many options for Fender Eliminator kits.
I decided to go with a local company called TST Industries for all my parts, as I've heard many good things from other R6 owners. I purchased their Fender Eliminator kit and started looking at more. I wanted my plate to be above my hugger, basically deep under the tail of the bike, so they had that mounting option with their regular fender eliminator (first link above.) As I didn't want a big opening where the OEM rear fender used to be, I still wanted the Fender Eliminator Close out, which they let me purchase separately as well.
State law says the license plate has to be visible, at night as well, so I purchased their Stealth LED License Plate light, and it lights it up plenty bright! And since installing all LEDs would cause a hyper flash, I went ahead and purchased their LED Flasher Relay as well.
It was a learning experience, that's for sure, but nothing too difficult! If you have a set of ratchet style wrenches, that could save you a bit of time in removing the bolts that hold on the OEM fender, but you still have to install their Close Out Plate as well (which is hex.)
After taking the bike apart, installing everything, tapping into wires, confirming it all worked, and putting it all back together, it looks great! No more bulky rear fender! And a super bright, crisp LED Tail Light with integrated turn signals, as well as a nice LED license plate light. Cleans up the look of the bike A LOT. Totally worth it.
I hope this "How To" video helps you out if you're deciding to remove your OEM fender from the R6! If you have any questions, please feel free to post in the comments below, and I'll answer when I'm able to the best of my knowledge.*
As always, ride safe out there, and stay vigilant!
