When installing LED bulbs to replace your factory blinker bulbs, you will have a "fast flash" or "hyper flash" problem. This means the vehicle will think you have a light bulb burnt out and, as an indicator to you, will flash quicker than normal. In this video, Chris shows you everything you need to know about installing resistors and shows the best practices and tools to make the job easy.

Installing these resistors will fool your vehicle into thinking it has a light bulb in good condition installed and will blink normally. Simply wire the resistor between the ground wire and the blinking positive wire.

That's horrible advice!! Never poke a wire unless you're sure you're going to cut it anyway. Once you put a pinhole in that wire you've sealed its fate, it will eventually turn green. It's just a matter of time and there's no stopping it.

Thank you for explaining the process of identifying the correct wire. So many other "how to" videos just skip that part by saying they already looked it up before hand and they're just gonna start connecting stuff. There is no assumption in a how to video, other than assuming we're a blank slate and we're watching the video to figure out how to get started.

I have to take time and tell you something Great job and well done man! My company policy on this install is very similar to yours. Your demo is easy to follow and implement to individual situations. I do question the piercing of all wire jackets…we would actually find the connection before piercing a jacket and possibly allowing a water/fluid/debris contact situation Please continue making your fun easy to follow and excellent content for all of us!

Thank you for this video. After trying several searches and attempting to make sense of some other videos, yours was spot on and answered all my unknowns. I have a 1998 Toyota 4Runner that I had, on the spur of the moment, decided to replace the burnt out conventional bulb with LEDs--I bought Sylvania bulbs. After doing so, I noticed the ABS light on my dash; through a Google search, I quickly discovered I needed a load equalizer, so back to O'Reillys for it. Through other searches, I already knew the wire I needed to tap into with the equalizer was the green one with a white line on it. Instead of attaching the other end of the equalizer to the common wire (white with a black line on it), I crimped a connector on it that had a hole for a bolt, and then I just used the existing grounding point behind the side panel instead. Everything worked--no more ABS light. Thanks again.

Signal still blinks quickly and resistor started to warm up so connection was good. I'm thinking of soldering instead. Before I do all of that, my question is this; would I need to put resistor's on both front & rear (in this case left side) in order to see the blinking difference? Are they mutually controlled in the computer module or separately (should I have experienced quick blinking up front but controlled in rear after the install)?. Some vehicles have a turn signal relay and in that case you just have to swap it out with a new led relay "If Available ", GM made it so my AC and turn signals are built into the same relay , so, don't want to play with mother nature on the AC and use a alternate relay , other wise, If you have a LED turn signal relay you can buy for your vehicle you dont have to do what you see here. There was a small metal box housing 2 mini led's wired in parallel (i assumed to lighten the load and reduce the total heat created). Well for 5 years of operation. Water got into the metal box. It corroded the resistor from the inside. I bought a pack of 6 or so of the same spec of resistors and replaced them. They can fail if not protected from moisture. But it takes a while

WARNING. Be sure that any wiring stripped open "especially" on trucks inner fenders or areas that are damp locations, are sealed from the elements i/e solder joints, shrink tube, spray on electrical tape, silicon, electrical tape. Failure to do so will result in long term damage to your wiring, corrosion will follow the entire span of wire ruining your factory electrical wiring harness. Keep water and salt water out. Very important. Make minimal cuts into original wiring when at all possible.

I personally find it much easier to solve the fast flashing issue by simply installing an electronic flasher in place of the standard one(a simple plug in) which normally sells for about $9.00. It also saves on power usage, unlike substituting a filament bulb with a resister to mimic the same wattage draw in the circuit. It's a whole lot less work not altering your wiring too!
@HeadlightRevolution
@HeadlightRevolution 4 жыл бұрын
Installing an LED flasher is certainly a much easier route! However, most new vehicles do not use a relay to control the turn signal anymore, and it's all done through the BCM. So in those cases, wiring in a resistor is the only option.
@Tweeter1007
@Tweeter1007 4 жыл бұрын
@@HeadlightRevolution Yes that is very true of most newer vehicles that now have a BCM do the job, in that way it cuts the cost, and they are proving to be very reliable. The down side is having to keep the draw on the circuit close to what the original incandescent lamp used by way of a resister which is more work to wire in than simply changing over to an electronic flash as we did on our older models. I have a 09 H2 that has the BCM, so if I want Led turns, I have no choice but to throu in the resisters in parallel with the bulbs. Thanks for responding, and I do hope more sites will mention that the E flasher is a great option when their is no BCM. Another monkey wrench you can encounter, mostly on the foreign cars is the can-bus systems. But that's a topic for another day😉!

LED bulbs are much brighter than stock incandescent bulbs, which is great for road safety and turn indication, and it improves the overall look of your vehicle. They also draw less power and have a more crisp and immediate power-up time, where stock bulbs will blink at more of a delayed pace.

Yes I did....it flashes normally for a few seconds then goes to hyper flash. I have to say it’s a little bit annoying. I’ve got the resistors but I wanna make I know exactly how to install them.

future shock.......did you really get that hyper flash or were they flashing like the truck lights in the video? I replaced ALL my exterior bulbs with LED without the resistors and the the flashing is faster but it’s nothing sneeze at......it’s probably twice as fast. Not that bad.

Awesome video. Really appreciate it. My question is that do I install a resistor on each corner i.e., 4 resistors; one for each indicator bulb or will 1 resistor take care of all four? Thanks

thank you for making this! I do have 1 question however. I have an 04 Chevy Malibu. Replaced just about EVERY exterior light (lol) with LED's. Question I have is, if I put a resistor in the tail light, do I need one in the front blinker as well or will that 1 resistor cover it all? I'm guessing from this video, I need to put one at both ends of the car so I would need a total of 4 resistors. Again, great video and thank you for sharing this with the world!

My rig started hyper blinking when I swaped the front blinker bulbs, would I put the resistors on the front? My front bulbs don't have a specific blinker wire as it runs into a connector that plugs into the headlight itself and is then wired according inside. Thanks for the video!

Just curious why you had to put two on each side. I ask cause I think I might need to do that. My issue is when my headlights are off the flash fine, when head lights are on I get hyper flash. Just to note my tail lights are also my blinkers.

What's the difference in doing this & just changing the flasher relay? I upgraded my 02 RAM with LED taillights & all I did was swapped out my flasher relay to stop the hyperflash? Will it damage anything if you don't have led resistors installed?

Hi, great video. I do have a question... I have a 88 S10. When I put in zevo LED tail lights. They light up but nothing works. No brake lights, no blinker. I was told to get a load resistor. But your video indicates this solves the speed of the blinker. Will the resistor make my tail lights work. Also I was told to get a led flasher. What's your opinion on that? Thanks Rich

Change to the blinker fuse (in your fuse box, it makes a clinking nose) that has a voltage regulator in it. Plug and play, worked for my f150.

Thank you for sharing the video with the useful information 🙏 I came acroos that video while trying to get my turn-signal LED bulbs works. I have a Suzuki s-cross (crossover) 2013. Turn-signal lights are PY21W. I replaced the 4 of the halogen ones with 4 Osram ledriving SL PY21W Amber. 2 LEDs on front doesn't work at all (they are tested other way and not faulty). 2 LEDs on back of the car blink faster then usual. 1. Do i need to switch the car's wires polarity of the front plugs? becouse that kind of bulb base can't be fixed other way to change polarity (because of the 2 pins on 150° that make you fix the bulb only in 1 position). After sorting out the answer to question 1: 2. About the fast blinking issue - do i need to put a resistor near any LED bulb (4 resistors at sum)? Or put 1 resistor near 1 LED bulb is enough for the whole 4 turn-signal circuit? Best regards! Idan

That will require a little different part and process, we would ask that you email into us if you have any issues with your headlights, but it could indicate that you need a pair of PWM Modules that I have linked for you here: www.headlightrevolution.com/gtr-lighting-pwm-hid-kit-modules-ACC.PWM5202.MOD_2?quantity=1

Will resistors make the LED bulbs go brighter? I'm trying to replace the Reverse stock bulbs on my Lexus SC300 with LEDs but I feel like it's not really giving out that much brightness in contrast to what the LED power output should be. Also, the breaklight indicator on the dash has gone on so I assume it really needs some resistors to be installed?

I have tail lights that have LEDs built in and the “built in” resistors went out about a week ago when I took my truck to get washed. The whole tail light functions as a turn signal rather than just one half of the tail light, so would I need to put resistors on the top and bottom harness on each side of the vehicle? A total of 4 resistors?

With using the T-Connector/Soldering, if I were ever to go back to Halogen bulbs, would this compromise that and need to replace harness?
