absolutely right. thank you "Jess" for standing up for yourself, because you were Jess. And Smitty was Slim. It was beyond perfect! I'm *almost 80 and have been watching the show for the first time. (I didn't have TV when the show was new.) It has saved my life through Covid and old age. You are beautiful.

I can’t even picture them in reverse roles. The two were great as the characters played. Love Robert Fuller, loved John Smith. They don’t make them like that anymore.

How in tarnation did charles bronson become a huge star and neither fuller not smith did..? the vagaries of fate. Along with Dale Robertson, and Clint Walker, Robert Fuller is someone who shouldve become a MEGA star. Tough Merkin

I was talking to someone this very evening about that but we mentioned lots more actors too who somehow got big film roles for apparently no obvious good reason. Clint Eastwood did very well of course but apart from him, was there a general reluctance to cast actors who’d been in Western tv series …in big films ? I’ve heard Robert Fuller ( on videos on here) explaining about when the content of Westerns became monitored and the action in them was reduced, ie less fights, less shooting. It wouldn’t surprise me if complaints 🙄 about Westerns affected film casting. I’ve seen John Smith only in ‘ Laramie’ but obviously, he was excellent. My favourite, was Robert Fuller, so able to do action, stunts, drama, romance, comedy, dancing …and he could sing pretty well too. Charisma, great speaking voice and very, handsome. Acting ability way above many actors who got lots of big film roles. Sometimes, good film roles can make mediocre actors look good. If the film has a good story etc, the lead actor becomes successful. When watching John Smith and Robert Fuller, plus some others who were excellent, I really do wonder if they weren’t favoured by some casting directors etc - mostly because they’d acted in tv Western series. I can’t think of any other reason although there might be one. Of course, there have been some great actors in films who deserved, to be cast. However, there are quite a few who had huge film careers and the reason they did, is a mystery, apart from the luck they had to be cast ! I don’t mean that RF hasn’t had a terrific career. He did. I mean that I think that he and some others should have been far more appreciated by film makers. One irony is that when there were some complaints about violence in tv Westerns, violence some films, was becoming extreme. Cowboys were illogically complained about for being the good guys but other actors, eg Charles Bronson, were not. So in films, violence got a pass but if there was any on tv Westerns, some parents complained, as if they had no control over their tv sets or, what their children watched.

The first season of Laramie was some of the best television had to offer. The stars and their characters fit perfectly together as a unit. When they changed the format for season two, losing both Robert Crawford Jr and Hoagy Carmichael in the process, they created just another run of the mill western with no heart. They tried to catch the fire again for season three but it wasn't the same! They should've left well enough alone and stuck with "Andy" and "Jonesy"!
