Bobby Heenan discusses his dislike for Terry Taylor and the Red Rooster Gimmick from the World Wrestling Federation. Stream the Full Shoot Interview 📺 TitleMatchNetwork.com
The late-great Bobby "The Brain" Heenan talks about his time managing The Red Rooster in WWF. This is when Vince McMahon signed Terry Taylor from Bill Watts UWF promotion.
Legend goes that Vince thought Terry Taylor was too cocky and full of himself so as a rib he made Taylor the Red Rooster. In any event, Bobby hated the gimmick and the person.
Later in the clip, Heenan also mentions managing the Brain Busters (Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard).
This interview was originally produced by RF Video Inc in 2002. Licensed for distribution on Title Match Network.

When I was a kid, I actually got to see Bobby wrestle. By wrestle, I mean he rang around the ring doing the coward bit. I remember hating him as the ultimate heel manager. Years later, watching on commentary really opened my eyes to what a genius he was. Easily one of the greatest commentators of all time.

I saw a WWF show when I was like 9 years old, and I remember I just couldn't wait until Bobby came out to ringside as a manager just so I could shout "WEAS-EL! WEAS-EL!" over and over again, in the hopes he would do one of those dramatic "bothered by the chants so I'll turn around dramatically mad at the crowd" moves. I loved Bobby The Brain when I was a kid. A one of a kind, genuinely funny guy.

The one constant about Terry Taylor was that he was his own worst enemy. Even wrestlers who had a good relationship with Taylor have admitted he was too political for his own good and had the penchant for saying the worst possible thing to the worst possible person at the worst possible time. Essentially the vibe I got on Taylor was that he thought he was safe on third where in reality he was only halfway to second base about to be thrown out.

@@dondemmeljr1765 That's just not demonstrably true. Plenty of people just stick around past their due date, so to speak, or just land in a spot where they're fine. (notice he didn't end up being very important, or irreplaceable..he's just sort of around, and good for him) He could be a shitty booker, but if there are others who are even worse, sure..which describes a lot of what was going in WCW. And not for nothing, he's probably in a position where he's competent enough at the job. Sometimes that's the best a person is going to get. But again, it's not a knock on his technical talent. It's a comment that he wasn't, and never was going to be, a draw. That's literally the business. It's not about who we think is a good wrestler or not, it's about whether they bring people to the seats. Anyone who says they're going to a live show to see Terry Taylor wrestle is either lying or just a fan of a mid card wrestler there to put over talent that is going to make everyone a lot of money.
