We didn't have much in the way of WWF back in the late 80's and early 90's in the UK but each Saturday morning was spent infront of the TV watching Bobby and The Gorilla. That was me as a 10 yr old in 88 and hooked on wrestling ever since. Paul Heyman maybe in character 99% of the time but in that rare 100% truly honest moment. He would say Bobby was so far abover everyone else. Even Cornette standing on Heymans shoulders still couldn't reach Bobby.

Owen was also the only person who acknowledged Luna Vachon at Wrestlemania 14 for the job she did making Sable look great, which not one other person did. While everyone else clapped for Sable as she came to the back, only one person congratulated Luna on a job well done, and that person was Owen Hart.

Now, I'm never for Govt. Health care because they iwn you once they control your health, so I don't want anyone to thinking I'm going in the direction. No, I'm talking about scuzzbucket VKM. I don't know if it's been changed but in the past you could always offer to pay a hospital bill IN CASH and knock that bill as low as a quarter of what they'd charge insurance - ESPECIALLY if it is GOV'T. Insurance - then they really add whole lot of shite. I know Vince jr + Sr. knew this even more than an average business, because most businesses don't have their workers stitching each other up in their Locker Rooms. So they couldn't have Bobby go in to have surgery, find out the cost and help him pay? Maybe someone who works in a hospital or insurance, who's reading this can put me straight and tell me they haven't done that since the days of Doctors Casey, Kildare, + Welby then I'll apologize to Both Vince's. I'll thank Sr. when he comes starts promoting again. Some people still don't get it.. Bret is/was an affable guy as most Canadians are.. Hbk was just the ONE guy who got under his skin beyond belief, and for good reason. Context is King. Earlier a certain Female WWF Women's Champion went to WCW and dumped that belt in the trash. Bret was on his way out heading to WCW. Vince didn't want the same thing to happen this time with the WWF championship. I understand that Bret wanted to go out on top , Vince didn't want to risk it. Hence Bret Screwed Bret. Bret has said numerous times why he didn't want to lose to hbk in Montreal. When he found out that they were working together at survivor series, he went up to Shawn and said, "Hey Shawn, just found out that we're working together at SS. I just want you to know that I don't have a problem putting you over and that you'll always be safe with me in the ring." According to Bret, Shawn looked right at him and said, "I appreciate that, but just so you know, I can't promise that i would do the same." I dont blame bret at all for not wanting to do business with him.

@@jeffreywhitaker6627Heres some more context.. Vince ultimately chose Hbk over Bret by letting Bret go. It became obvious that one had to go. Vince couldve let Hbk go and i argue that wouldve been better for Business. Couldve had Bret vs Austin at Wm 14 with Tyson as Ref and part of the Hart Foundation.. Just switch DXs role with Tyson with the Harts. But Vince played favorites and let Hbk get away with everything because he was a mark for the guy.. Why set things up so Bret has to get humiliated in his final match by a guy he hates? Couldve just had Bret drop the title to Taker or something And i dont see how Bret attacks the business

There were some people that I just loved to hate as a Child. Jimmy Hart, Bobby Heenan, Honky Tonk Man, Jimmy Hart, Ted DiBiase, Rick Rude, Curt Hennig... They did their job so well, and I realized later in life how entertained and excited I was. I first started watching what was then the WWF in 1986. Saturday Night's Main Event, Wrestlemania II was my first look into the big events, but I'd watched that as a rented VHS before Wrestmania III, which I watched on Pay Per View as a 7th grader. The Pontiac Silverdome... I was awestruck at the production value then, and as a child you're going to believe this stuff. It was one of the most magical experiences I'd ever had. Breaks my heart that most of the men who performed there are no longer with us. My favorite technical wrestler, at the very end of the 80's and into the earliest 90's, as my interest wound down, was Bret Hart. He had a unique way of looking good getting his arse beat. I liked his style, his technical performance, his swagger, the way he performed getting thrown into turnbuckles and the barricades. He was a brilliant performer. Seeing Heenan do these interviews gives me a whole new perspective and respect for the person he was. It's such a privilege to be able to get a look (proverbially) backstage.

@@billybob5337 I do think he should have agreed to do the job but he still got screwed... The reason Bret was given the belt 5 times is because Vince could rely on him and he did better business than anyone else Vince could find even though Vince was never completely sold on him. Plus, Vince was putting out a bad product overall. No one would have shined during that period. No he was not S-tier like the Rock, Hogan, or Stone Cold, but he was definitely an A-tier star and someone you want around for people like the Rock or Stone Cold to feud with because he was such a good storyteller and one of the best in the ring.

@@billybob5337 Bret only refused to put Shawn over because Shawn told Bret to his face that he would never put Bret over. Bret already put Shawn over at WM12 remember, so it was only fair for Bret to ask for Shawn to do the same for him. And it was Vince who allowed Bret to have the ability to refuse to put Shawn or anyone else over. It was in Bret's contract, the 20-year contract Vince broke to begin with when he let Bret go, which is what led to the infamous night in Montreal in the first place. So it was Vince who broke his agreement with Bret, not the other way around.

The issue I had is that Bret agreed to drop the match at the next event after Montreal. It’s not like he at out said he wasn’t going to drop the belt before he left. I think Bret wouldn’t screw Vince because Owen was still with WWF so if he didn’t drop it as he promised, Vince would crush Owen. So the Montreal screw job was very unnecessary

He loved what he did, he had a huge respect for the craft and insane dedication for it. People (including Bishoff) also do not seem to understand that Bret truly was a hero in Canada. Most people here would get upset if their boss made them work overtime or miss some sort of concert because they had to work that weekend of the concert. They would go a long rants about why their boss, job or company stinks. Vince backed out of his word and basically begged Brett to break his current contract. Bret agreed to rip the contract he had paying him millions. This was Vince, not Bret. Then, Bret called WCW and asked for the contract previously offered. All this happened because Vince, not Bret. Then, Vince told Bret he could exit whatever way he wanted. Also, Bret had creative control. Bret agreed to lose in Canada. Shawn Michaels opened his mouth and told Bret that he would have not done the same if he was in his shoes. Then, Bret decided he would not lose to Shawn in Canada. Shawn agreed to lose in Canada and get the title the next night. Then, HHH told everyone that Bret should never leave Canada as a Champion. HHH talked both Vince and HBK into not letting Bret leave with the title. It's funny how people talk about smarks and fanboys. Those are the same people who flip out when their boss asks them to work overtime or their mom asks them to clean the basement or take out the trash, lol.
