+ThePoptimist Thank you! I've seen your comments on other people's reviews ;) and I thought they were so interesting. There was the one were you talked about all the aspects of Korean culture you felt the book may have been touching on which really resonated with me because I could see a lot of it, and I definitely understand your feelings about how this book sort of fits a negative trend of how Korean culture is looked at and expressed in novels. I was moved by this novel as a woman and as a person that had experienced the existential dread that most of the characters felt and those aspects really spoke to me but I think all your points are valid.

+cristiful1O1 What a lovely way of putting it. I definitely agree with you. There wasn't much for her to go back to and when I think about a lot of the other characters, it makes one wonders why anyone continues to carry on especially in the world of that book.

+Matthew Xiu Hi Matthew. So sorry for the late reply. Thanks so much for your compliments. I read The Sellout in 2015 and it was one of my favorite reads of the year. I talked about it a little in my video for my favorite books of 2015. I thought it was a hilarious, scathing satire that didn't hold any punches and shows us how absurd the concept of race is without minimizing how much it affects people's day to day lives. I didn't have time to do a review around the time I'd read it and I would feel a bit unprepared to do so now because so much time has passed. It is a book I hope to revisit in the near future though and when I do I'll make sure to talk about it on my channel. Have you read it?

+tony bennett I don't know. I think it was interesting to me to see how the others reacted. How watching her go mad made them have all of these realizations about their own lives. I'm remembering a passage where the sister is looking over her life and realizing how much of it she really hates: her husband, the kids, her job and there's this sense of anger and envy she has against her sister because she doesn't have to deal with those things or she's refusing to do so, even with everything it's costing her. I definitely could see where you're coming from with the idea that some of the ideas lacked subtlety. I haven't read much Asian literature so a lot the ideas and the presentation of them were new to me.
