Don't confuse that with the "left". We take responsibility for our retards, sure. But those aren't liberal or socialist lefties. Those are authoritarian Neo-Marxists. They tried to cancel Noam Chomsky, okay? The reason why many "liberals" support them is because they're naive and they think being "woke" is just an emancipation movement like the gay rights movement was. They don't know what's behind it. It requires some basic understanding of philosophical concepts like social constructivism vs semantic realism.

Rafal Rafal Yes, I like Bret Weinstein a lot, Janice Fiamengo likewise, and I thought she was rather harsh when I watched that video a few months back. But having seen this, the amount of rope he gave these ideologues was always going to threaten his neck. In all sincerity, how on Earth are these individuals permitted to be so disruptive and verbally offensive without disciplinary measures? Moreover, simply by listening to the manner in which they present themselves it is clear they are not suitable for university. The stunted vocabulary and over-reliance on expletives, the almost total lack of use of adjectives and their substitution with the anti-intellectual "Like"; the poor syntax and the vernacular grammar betrays not only this, but is equally valid in any other social interaction. If this was at a place of work, they would be fired. If this was in a hospital or a library they would be kicked out. If this were in a Public space, they would likely end up in a confrontation or be arrested by the police. Surely there are contractual obligations between the university and their paying students? Surely this behaviour results in a severe breach of contract, therefore it should be appropriate to take action. Expel 2 or 3 of these kids, no refunds on tuition payed and I would imagine these children that are stuck in the bodies of young adults would wise up, like, pronto and everyone could get back to business. Thanks for all your work Boyce. Good stuff

@tomwright9904
@tomwright9904 6 жыл бұрын
Sorry... the annoying pedant in me wants to make some comments. * Though you can't exactly abandon logic (it kind of being a fact of the universe and all), you might abandon the specific framework on which logic is based (on the grounds that it doesn't accurately describe reality). This is particularly relevant in things like "moral reasoning". A modest example of this is accounting for uncertainty or risk in models (think the great recession). * It should be noted that science and experimentation isn't exactly based on reason and logic as such. Rather you see if your model of reality works. Something that works experimentally but which is at odds with your model and the predictions made based on reasons is in many ways a better than what your model tells you should happen. As a rule this suggests some change you need to make to your model, but of course sometimes you need to do things *now*. Is this what these people mean? I'm not exactly sure what they mean. I can understand some skepticism of a scientific system that, say, historically described people like you as subhuman. I imagine lots of this is unexamined rhetorical cant.
@nickparkison977
@nickparkison977 6 жыл бұрын
@@tomwright9904 thanks for the civil reply Tom. Skepticism and doubt can lead us to a greater understanding of things this is very true. You'd be hard pressed to make any argument to that effect without reason though. I'm sure if the person that made the comment I replied to thought about it they may reform their statement. Making an argument that reason is not a good tool requires reason, and is self negating. But I'm very much on board with being skeptical of science pedagogy and their methods, but showing its failings require more, careful reasoning, not less. But let me know if you don't think I'm understanding your argument. I'd wager that what they mean is that scientific arguments have been used to denigrate some peoples and I agree, but throwing out scientific logic would lead to worse reasoning using emotion or simply anecdote, which science all but proves is an incomplete picture of the world. Bret Weinstein's talk called "How the magic trick is done" goes over this more deeply. Have a great weekend!
@tomwright9904
@tomwright9904 6 жыл бұрын
@@nickparkison977 I think we are basically on the same page. I'm mostly steelmanning the position. The one caveat is whether "running an experiment" constitutes reasoning. I guess this is sort of "using the universe to do your reasoning". This all gets very philosophical. How does one think without reasoning? What is reasoning? My personal take is reasoning is a means of extending the power of empirical predictions at the risk of maybe being wrong. There is almost a continuum between "analogy to case study" and "universal theorem of everything" (empiricism versus reasoning). So being antireason might be being pro empiricism. Another weirder viewpoint is the idea that the mind contains truths that should guide us rather than formal logic. Now, this is not in my opinion a good approach (empirically). However it is almost certainly true that the mind detects things before reason does. My personal take is that these mental approximations should be converted into reasoning or experiments before they get used... since otherwise well I'm not sure there is a good way of deciding who is correct. But yeah an extreme view of their position is the ultimate "might makes right" viewpoint . On the other hand anyone who has ever said "I'm going to need to think about that" is kind of adopting an anti reasoning position.

Isn't one problem with that statement the idea that it can be seen as racist in that it somwhat suggests that other cultures/ethnicities are incapable of using logic/reason to discover knowledge? Bret was trying to explain something these people didn't have and don't have the ability to understand. Even with the good basic explanation from Bret they still were incapable. It is no wonder they were brain washed and followed the leader so easily. Was this a school for higher learning or a daycare centre?

It's both fascinating and depressing to hear a near genius being argued with by students who can barely string sentences together or form coherent thoughts. No wonder such students prefer to chant rather than argue their points. Affirmative action in colleges was a HUGE MISTAKE. Imagine being so unintelligent that you actually condescend to your much older, much more educated college professor.

Thank you for dedicating the time into producing this content in a logical easy to follow manner....it was (chuckle chuckle) .... a weekend well spent.... for us, your audience! Lots of chit chat here about Bret's patience, which was exemplary, but I wonder that with hindsight if he would concur that his outlook/philosophy/belief in reason obscured the fact that regardless of what was said these students were after chaos and mayhem and much like the bloodhound the scent of it so close was there was no getting them of that trail. Also, I wonder how the principal actors in this devolvment will be faring in 5 - 10 years time; just like those sociologists who document the progress of people from childhood onwards at 7 year intervals.

Somewhere here on KZfaq there’s a conversation between black and white students and faculty on a college campus back in the late 60’s or thereabouts. While one of the groups decides to walk out, I strongly encourage anyone to look it up and watch it, but primarily taking notice of the difference in the quality of dialogue coming from the students then, compared to now. I’m reminded of when I took some robotics and electronics courses in college a few years ago (as a returning adult). We were building some motorized models with what amounts to fancy erector set parts - I was in a lab with a few other students when one of my engineering professors walked in about 10 minutes later, flipped on the light, asked what we were doing there and told us we needed to have an instructor present - get this - because we were working with electricity and motors. She wasn’t amused when I countered “Do we really? I’m 35 years old, and they’re all 20. The box set were using says ages 16+.” My point is, in many ways, we’ve created an entire generation of young and middle aged adults who are in many ways developmentally like inarticulate children with very weak critical thinking skills, because we have not required them to be articulate nor have we required them not to act like children nor do we really require people to consider themselves and the world around them in a critical and nuanced way. We have moved not towards simply equalizing access to opportunities for people of similar capacity and/or qualifications, but rather towards the fundamentally flawed pursuit of equal outcomes by entitling people to have access to opportunities based on their classes of income, gender, race, etc. instead of their real ability and potential. And the result? A group of students who *literally* can’t form proper sentences as they angrily chastise - of all people and of all things - a Jew, for his opposition to the idea that one group can tell another where they’re allowed (or not allowed) to go because of their race. Rough waters lay ahead...

I think it's odd that these students seem to understand that intent & outcome don't always line up. They get upset when they misunderstand Bret. They want to blame Bret & tell them how terribly they have been injured even when that wasn't his intent. They understand it wasn't his intent but still want to hold him accountable. Then so many of them condone socialism/communism & it's fine & dandy when millions of people starve to death because that wasn't the intent. WOW just WOW. That illustrates the stunning ignorance of some of these students.

I have been trying to empathize. With the kids of this, thought. For as long as I've known about them. These kids, are in college. I find it hard to believe, these kids have dealt with too much, adversity. Usually, hard lifes will toughen you up. These kids, need to learn that... "sticks and stones..." nursery rhyme. I could never understand, someone saying out loud. "Words are harmful". If thats the extent of their "oppression".... then I envy them...... Pathetic. Great video

Their parents must be so proud. They sure raised them right, to respect their elders, to have considerations for others beyond just their emotions, and to be able to articulate their feelings so well. 😒 If we make "I feel harmed" the ultimate standard that would mean the most emotionally fragile and unbalanced individuals would control the world. It's simply "an aggressive passive-aggressive" power-grab. Control your own emotional landscape and you won't have to try to shame everyone else to walk on the eggshells of your emotional immaturity all the time.

Okay only halfway through and At first I was put off by the fact that there was only audio, but that forced me to really concentrate on the voices (inflection) and other than the condescending (perhaps sexist 🤔) "Honey". The moment that really got me was when Weinstein said "Every discipline subject to reason" and the student piped in with "Let's hope so" the tone in his voice haunted me in way, as if perhaps reasoning is in danger of being extinct. EDIT after many stops and replays I was finally able to finish the video and Getting to see the cat was a nice reward!

Having followed nearly every KZfaq video featuring you Brett and the videos produced by Boyce, I hope the collective works are witnessed by the least number of future teachers and Professors, for why on earth would anyone pursue teaching after listening to these students who know far less than a small percentage of what they think they know. Anyone who follows either Brett, Heather, or even Eric knows all to well just how superior their thinking process is when compared to these literal nitwits, yet when, as in this video, he cannot even discuss any subjects with these literal kids who are not qualified to carry Brett’s briefcase across campus. Brett, you have my profound compliment for having the patience that most, including myself, fail to have. I would not have wasted my time talking to there literal morons, whereas you did many times. And what was your benefit for doing so? Not a damn effing thing other than unemployment. You are a hero sir. And I am a William F. Buckley school of conservatism believer, should that provide even more of a compliment.
