That Grinder funnel is just the best thing… no more filled drip tray with grounds… and the lock in design 10 out of 10.. ❤

Hi Joseph, thank you for this super helpful video! Can you please share the link for the wooden box setup next to your barista and also the link to your round distributor tamper tool (the round tool you used in the counter clockwise and clockwise motion)?

I’d recommend weighing the coffee coming out of the grinder too. My Barista Pro usually holds back up to a gram so although you put 18g in there’s no way of knowing how much you got out.

I agree with what you say, I fitted an after market bellow to my barista pro to reduce retention and can usually get very close to the full 18g out.

Very helpful video! One question: Assuming 18 grams of coffee, is there a difference in taste (or something else?) between a double shot of 36 grams pulled between 25-30 seconds and 36 grams pulled between 35-40 seconds? I'm using the Breville Barista Touch, if it matters
@Joseph-kz1vn
@Joseph-kz1vn Жыл бұрын
Yeah a faster shot is going to be less extracted. In general, it's harder to over-extract a light roast bean, so if you are using light roast beans you may find that you like the taste from longer extraction times. For medium and darker roasts, you often get a strong bitter/burnt taste from over-extracted espresso. A good rule of thumb is that under-extracted coffee tastes sour while over-extracted coffee tastes bitter.

so if you bought 4 different bean types (to test which you prefer), you need to dial each type every time? how much taste difference does it actually make? I like to try a wide variety of coffee but don't want to waste so much in the process of dailing-in
@Joseph-kz1vn
@Joseph-kz1vn 2 жыл бұрын
yeah each bean will need to be dialed in separately. Typically that will take maybe 1-2 mediocre shots before getting it right. That said, Ive found with experience I’ve gotten better at making decent guesses for where to start depending on the roast of the beans.

Awesome video. What about a single shot? I'd love to see that process or is everything supposed to be half? Like rather than 18g it should be 9grams. Does the extraction time stay the same or not?

Will be dependent on bean and grind setting. The bean I am currently using at setting 10 on grinder gives 10 grams of ground coffee after 7.5 seconds of grinding. I then go into Menu singe shot Custom with empty shot glass on scale zeroed press and hold single shot button for 6 to 7 seconds for pre-infusion and then them keep eye on scale and stop the shot at 20 -22 grams (or whatever output you find tastes best, usually somewhere in range 2 to 3 / 1 for espresso / coffee weight). Single shot is then set for that bean. The same can be done for double shot with double basket and button and then your only variable will be grind time between single and double shots. POf course if you choose to use another bean then you repeat the process. The use of a £10 digital scale makes the process a whole lot simpler.

The single and double settings are pretty different. You typically need to grind more beans in order to have the portafilter filled to the right height, but also grind a few clicks coarser to prevent too slow of a flow. Even if you literally halved the weight of the beans you still need to grind coarser because the shape of the basket creates more pressure due to fewer holes. It's hard to tell you exactly what weight you'll need because some beans are more dense than others. I can fit 20 grams of my medium roast beans into my double basket, only 15 for my decaf dark roast.

How did you program the doubleshot button to go for 32 seconds?
@Joseph-kz1vn
@Joseph-kz1vn Жыл бұрын
I did not program it for time. It’s volumetric. So if you’re getting much less than 30 seconds or so, you either have channeling issues or you need to grind finer.

My portafilter is Too tight.. I new but I got also BBE and it was easy to set the portafilter, and now I changed for the PRO and it is extremely TIGHT. Should I keep it? I wonder if should have to kept the BBE.... I will keep the PRO but I am afraid should be better the BBE.

Sometimes the portafilter is tight if the machine is cold. If you pull a blank shot of water through first, is it still tight?

@@Joseph-kz1vn I works thanks, now I am concern about temperature... it is 65 celsius for the shot, vs Barista expres 73 celsius
@Joseph-kz1vn
@Joseph-kz1vn 2 жыл бұрын
You can adjust the temperature a bit in the settings. My personal experience is that the default setting is best for the light roast beans I’m using. It get significantly more bitter if I raise the temperature. If you’re worried about the temperature in the cup, preheating the cup and preheating the portafilter can help, of course.

@@Joseph-kz1vn I already programmed the maximum temperature. and it is still much lower than in the BE (almost 10 Celsius of difference). I really would have loved to keep the BP since the coffee extraction is wonderful because of the cream it generates. greetings from Mexico

Hey Joseph! What are the burr grinder settings you have yours set to? I shamefully have been using Starbucks blonde espresso beans since I get them free and I’ve noticed that my shots are entirely BITTER. Really bad. I have the grind size set to 9 and the burr grind set to 4. Thoughts?
@Joseph-kz1vn
@Joseph-kz1vn 2 жыл бұрын
Usually bitter means over-extracted. How are your shot times? And is your pour coming out pretty evenly? Early on, I distribution issues, but was able to get the shot time targets by grinding way too fine. The result was pretty bad espresso.
