I love seeing old stock being revitalized. It goes back to my toy-collecting hobby. I would buy, fix and re-sell or giveaway. I just loved seeing them brought to a second life. That is a beautiful loco and glad to see it running as good as new or better!

Hi Graham and Hazel. I love the 9Fs, that is one on my list to get. Your one is lovely even with the wobble. It's going to look fantastic going round your lovely layout. I'll have to keep my hands in my pocket when I go to Trains 4U. Thanks Graham. Stay safe. Pete.

This will be a nice project Graham and it will be a nice addition to the layout. I bought a couple of Hornby TEA wagons new and was surprised they had the big D couplings. Cheers Kev

My favourite steam loco. I have a G.Farish one. I must go and see the real one this year. Cheers Graham.

Hi Mark and it could well be that, it was certainly just laying around unloved but all ok now and nice and clean , more importantly, mended too! 👍🏻. Cheers. ……….Graham

Interesting project and looks good work. Do feel that Hornby out of that era made some pretty solid locos and with a bit of work can be sound locos. I have several that I have brought through that well known auction site. 9f is interesting as one has worked its way onto my wishlist but won’t be the current Bachmann/Hornby mega money versions!

Thanks Dave and I’m pleased that I’ve got this up and running again albeit in DC mode but it shouldn’t take me too long to get it back to DCC once again. Cheers. ………..Graham

Good video here graham, I myself own an old tender drive Evening Star which thankfully is quite a good runner for me right now, it’s always good being able to bring back an old model to our locomotive fleets, think the last old model I bought back to working order in my fleet was an old triang 37 that I had owned for about 8 years but I had never been able to use as originally when purchased all those years ago it just didn’t work, overall good job on this 9f here graham, well done and keep up the good work.

Graham, that's great! I had one of the first ones of these when I was 11 or 12, 1971/2. Tender driven, dc. Brow beat my mother into spending £50.00 on it if I remember rightly 😊. What else will you find? Regards, Stephen.

Hehe, I think we’ve all done that with our parents at some stage - I just do it to the wife now! 😂. I’ve probably got 3 or 4 more broken locos which I could try and rejuvenate once this 9F is done which hopefully should be tomorrow with a bit of luck. 👍🏻👍🏻. Cheers. …………Graham

Great video Graham, this would look good double heading with the crosti. Surprised it hasn't suffered with the dreaded mazak rot. Regards H
@GrahamFoulston6 ай бұрын
Hi Harry, there’s absolutely no sign of the Mazak rot, I think that may have been on the earlier models but don’t quote me on that but the chassis on mine is perfect. Cheers. ………..Graham

Hi Graham, i have a 1990's Hornby Evening Star loco which is mint and runs very well too, i would like a new 9F with the pumps but i've had very bad luck with Hornby so i don't want to put money in their pockets because they have been very unhelpful regarding my situation, i would go with Bachmann but i have only seen bad reviews on their steam engines with split chassis which puts me off, i would buy Hornby coaches as they can't get them wrong along with a few wagons that i like when they come down in price or in a sale, thanks for sharing.
@GrahamFoulston6 ай бұрын
I personally wouldn’t touch Bachmann split chassis locos, I have one old one which forever gave me problems so I don’t run that at all now. Once I convert this 9F back to DCC then it should be a nice little runner once again and has saved me a lot of money over a new one. Cheers. ………..Graham
@StormmyStormmy6 ай бұрын
@@GrahamFoulston Hi, what conversion kits would you use for yours? I guess if you're keeping the loco for ever then a great pancake/CD motor will be a great upgrade.
@GrahamFoulston6 ай бұрын
@@StormmyStormmy I’m not converting it motor-wise as it’s a loco driven model and perfectly fine as it was originally DCC ready anyway, it’s just for some strange reason I took all the original wiring out, so it’s just a case of putting new wiring in to replace what was there originally, I might even have the old wiring somewhere but by the time I’ve looked for it then it would be quicker to just replace it with new. Hope that helps. Cheers.
@StormmyStormmy6 ай бұрын
@@GrahamFoulston Hi, mine is tender drive like most of my older Hornby steam locomotives, if I can get chassis for them then I may convert them to dcc thus keeping the original motorised tenders intact, if a very good used newish 9F comes up for sale I will get one, I do like the new 21pin hush hush Hornby have released, fitting lighting and a glowing firebox will be easier.
@stevewood59936 ай бұрын
Nice work Graham. I wonder if you stripped the wiring with the intention of relocating of the DCC socket inside the tender? Especially if you were thinking of adding a Sound decoder?
