Buddy always had great musicians, but I'm not so sure if there was another sax tandem like those two who could play that particular chart - not like that anyways. The energy and frenzy on this piece is on display from the entire band. Buddy's solo at the end with cymbal barrage leaves me shaking my head in disbelief. The recipe must call for rocket fuel, unbelievable.

Holy, amazing performance by all, but as a bassist I'm BLOWN AWAY by Tony's performance! Holy moly that was incredible bass playing, and from a guy who wasn't a regular player with Buddy (yet at least - I think this was done before "the roar of 74" right?) ... wow...

Thank you Mr Labarbera for posting such a clear version of this concert. This TV show was my first introduction to Buddy Rich and after that night i new exactly what kind of drummer i wanted to be. The first BR album i got back in the day was the best of Buddy Rich, (right after seeing this show) i can remember being completely blown away by pat's solo in Channel one suit and of course Buddy's amazing drum solo's Then came the big man with the afro, Steve Marcus

John, I first heard this chart being played by my high school stage band. To say it had a profound effect on me would be a huge understatement. I began playing drums in earnest and 4 years later I had the opportunity to play it when I finally made the stage band myself. Playing this at the stage band competitions still is some of my favourite musical memories -- over 40 years later. Thank you!
