Building a custom 7M 1ZZ coil pack mounting plate.

I thought I would try to make a custom 1ZZ coil pack mounting plate for my 7M. It actually turned out pretty good. Im sure I will end up making a different one later down the road.......titanium would look good ;). Still have a few little things I need to do to this plate to get it all mounted up. I will update you guys on the final piece.

I would really love to see how you wire them, I just got screwed on my 7m by a shop so I have to rebuild it myself and I really want to do a coil on plug conversion

I plan on doing another video here soon on the wiring. I still need to make sure my cam and crank sensors are going to work. The coil pack wiring seems pretty straight forward.

This was really interesting. I didn't know about this upgrade, adding 1zz coil plugs on the 7mge engine. I don't have a custom build or anything, but I'm wondering if this would also be beneficial to add to an otherwise stock 7mge to 'future proof' it when sourcing maintenance parts later like the ignition coil and ignitor may or may not be hard to find (or expensive) for original spec stuff. Thanks for sharing!

I figured since I was going full standalone I would ditch the distributor and go coil over plug. I like the idea of the smart coils not needing the ignitor and all the other junk that just clutter up the engine bay. The coils will help me really fine tune the motor and get this thing running perfect. I agree as well, sourcing the coils and new parts will be a lot easier than trying to replace old wore out parts with other old wore out parts ha.

Hey man, love the ingenuity on your build, for this cover and mounting plate it really needs a thicker material for you really ez plug changes and any fixes you have plus the plates they sell improve any valve cover leaks since it utilizes the same bolts. But hey If you can make it work and keep the coils snug go for it.

Oh I will be redoing this for sure. I found that the material was too thin pretty quick. I'm planning on making a few titanium ones that will do the trick.

No need to drill and tap just find a rear 7mgte hex bolt it is already threaded in the center. For the spacer Ace Hardware is the go to.

About to do the same with my 7m; Do you know ontop of your head if all 1ZZ coils are the same?

Oooo that is a great question. I want to say they will all be relatively close. These coils fit so many different vehicles, so I'm sure they are the same across the board. The only thing I wish was different was the length of the coil. They stick up pretty high and I would prefer they sit down in the galley.
