Link to the LegoMan Simulator seen at the end of the video...
bit.ly/2XK9Uud
The folder in this zip package needs to be moved to the MachSim folder noted below, the part file can be used to demo the machine.
The previous video left off at the point of assembling the saved out STLs in Machine Simulation. If you have not watched video 1, you can view it here...
• Building a Virtual Haa...
With the files saved out and ready to go, it is best to move them now into a folder where Mastercams Machine Simulation can reference them. The default location is...
C:\Users\Public\Documents\Shared Mastercam 2021\MachineSimulation\MachSim\
Adjust the version as needed in the above address.
Create a folder and name it accordingly. You are now ready to build the machine in the Machine Simulator Environment.
In Machine Simulation, you can add different motion types, Translational in X, Y, or Z, and Rotational in A, B, or C. You can also add custom motions if needed. Once an axis motion is added, you can add motion limits and directions to them. You can also add geometry to these motions, here is where you add your saved out STLs to the axis motion. I would suggest watching the video for these steps as typing instructions may not fully explain what is expected here.
Keep in mind each STL can only be defined as one color, so if you want to add more contrast to your machine you will have to save each component that you want a separate color and then import 1 at a time and then set the desired color for each.
Once you have the machine built, lastly you can add in some collision checking...which I highly recommend doing as this has been the whole point of this build!
Once you get into the swing of building machines for simulation in Mastercam and in Machine Simulation, you'll see the possibility are endless on what you could make, and that leads us to the LegoMan Simulator. The link is obviously at the top of this post. At the very least, it should provide a laugh!

Great tutorial on part 1 and 2. I want to simulate our TRT210. See you did Z first, then Y separate, and linked X then A as a sub of Y. Would I link X, A, then C under Y? And would the face platter of C be similar to how you did A in this video? I’m hoping A will tilt about the trunnion, and then the C will rotate with it

Ya you need to stack the axes from the bottom up so everything stays together. You wouldn't want to move your part in Y but see your table left behind.

_I loved this video and the previous one, you are the first who teaches how to create the machines, excellent video, just one question, are the xlm files machine? If I designed a machine in some design program and passed them to stl, can I do what you teach in the videos? or do the files you modified have something special? thanks, great video_ Thanks Jose! Yes you can create STLs in another CAD program and use MachSim to build the machine with those files. Just be sure origin is set correctly when you model and then save/export. The XML file is automatically created by MachSim to keep a record of how everything fits together and what moves with which axis. Nothing special with the files I used. They are just simplified versions of what I downloaded from the Haas website.

Great video, thank you! I have a question: If you would want to add a tailstock to the 4th axis, how can it adjust to the stock/model size in the x axis, so that it would touch the detail on the left side and it would adjust the x axis position automatically when you load a new detail?

Probably a metric/inch thing. Open the xml file associated with your build, it will be in the folder with the rest of the STLs, you can open it with any text editor. Look for inch or metric in the first couple lines. Make it the opposite of what it is now and then save the file. Should work fine after that.

After watching these videos several times, I was able to build our HAAS 4 axis mill and get it to work, which was pretty cool. When I build the 3 axis version, I don't have the default option for collision checking, only custom. Then when I try to run MachSim on a tool path, I get a message: "A translation axis is missing in xml. Machine Definition initialized with Default definition" If I try to continue, I get another error message: "Error occurred in program: Simulation object loading error. In operation 1, a tool job contains an ID not found in the machine: workpiece Simulation loading will be cancelled" Looking for ideas here. . .

Does this machine simulator run on the post-processed G-Code or only the toolpath
@CamInstructor
@CamInstructor 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, machsim can be driven by a post processor. I also see this misconception a lot, thinking that verifying gcode is better than a toolpath. Keep in mind, programs that take gcode as an input still have to use a translator to turn that into motion in the software. It isn't running gcode like a CNC control does. A bad gcode translator for a specific machine type will negate any benefit of giving the software the actual gcode.

I set everything up in the virtual sim space and if I close out and reopen everything shrinks down to nothing and shows a face Mill as big as a room on top of my machine. I’m guessing somewhere maybe it’s taking my inch units and shrinking them by switching to metric???

Definitely an inch/metric thing. If you have everything assembled, browse to the folder with all the files in it using File Explorer. Open the XML file and edit the line where it says units="metric" or units="inch" (should be in one of the first few lines), just switch it to the opposite of whats there now. Machine Simulation is just for fun/not useful? I don't think you understand the benefit if that's your thought. Something that takes you an extra 5 minutes to run through Machine Simulation can save you a $10,000+ crash on your real machine. How much wasted time will you have when you need to wait for a service call to fix your machine after a crash?
@md8744
@md8744 3 жыл бұрын
Usually your machine crashed not because of that, it happens from your guys out of control setting up machines and offset lenght, clearances of the tools and important are letter H on G43 though. But anyway you're the best so I don't want to argue with....thks
@CamInstructor
@CamInstructor 3 жыл бұрын
I like to call it Presenting Different Points of View instead of Arguing 👍 I will agree, in the 3 axis machines, bad offsets lead to most crashes. When getting into 4 or 5+ axes when you have all sorts of things moving and moving quickly, it's not just a bad tool length offset that will get you. A tool using the wrong holder type, wrong shaped tools, axis moving too far in a positive tilt instead of a negative tilt. These are the things you can prepare for with Machine Simulation. If not, your setup machinist will have to guess at what tool to use, what length the tool needs to be, what fixture type, etc etc. It's not that you can't figure these things out on the machine in real time, it's just much more costly to do so. Knowing you can just load your program and hit the green button (assuming your offsets are good🙂) is worth the extra time programming....in my opinion.
