This is one of Bach's earliest keyboard works, written when he was around 18. His brother, Johann Jakob, who was three years older than him, was leaving to join the Swedish army as an oboist. Jakob accompanied the Swedish King in his military band as he engaged in the Great Northern War that was fought against Russia, and when Sweden was defeated in the battle of Poltava, he escaped to the Ottoman Empire with the king and remaind there for several years until they were able to go back to Sweden. Jakob lived the rest of his life in Stockholm.

I feel like this could almost be like a mini opera. It's very animated, and especially the fuga has a very vocal quality, like it could be sung.... ....or played by horns lol

The lamento is admirable interpreted by the cembalist. Interpreting the Generalbaß this well is an art. The fugue is an exemplary piece to show people how amazingly capable Bach's counterpoint skills were and how big this benchmark is on which today's composers have to measure themselves.

There's an obvious parallel fith in the base lines at 8:13. Good to know that even the young Bach made mistakes, that makes him a little bit more... human :)

in that case the repetition of CBAGF is to be treated as a separate voice. Thus it should not be considered a grave mistake even considering the young age of the composer
