I'd go straight to the Inconel version WB since Ti is like 10rds/5mins on a 14.5 and even less on shorter barrels. That sounds like a low-volume DMR can. I imagine the cooling will take even longer if you're under the sun during the summer. Not to mention the amount of spark is like a little firework in the dark from the Ti version.

Never had to leave my house. I ended up going with the Velos LBP for my MK18 but these C.A.T. suppressors really made my ears perk up. I can give a bit of insight. Never shot a Sierra5. But have shot the other 2. Polonium is definitely a bit quieter at the muzzle, but it’s one of the gassiest cans there is because of its flow restriction.if you don’t tune your gun for it, it will gas you out. It fits in well as a great DMR/SPR can. The WB is slightly louder at the muzzle and is about the same as an RC2, but it’s backpressure is equivalent to the HUX FLOW762 and Velos LBP. Even size aside, it’s probably the most balanced can in reguards to having backpressure reduction without sacrificing muzzle suppression.

The 3rd party lab data from pew science shows that the CAT cans are very gas agnostic to dwell time and barrel length And gain muzzle performance with barrel length. The Surge Bypass tech pretty much works like an internal AI. If you give it more gas, it will just automatically vent it to more chambers. so based on ammo used, barrel length, dwell time etc, it self regulates to try to always keeps its gas dynamics the same. Really awesome stuff.

But is also, I don’t want to hold back from shooting doubles for a mag. I saw what cat put their wb ti through with their claim it’s got 40k rounds. @@surfcleanlines13on a tuned host, the WB/ODB is still quieter at the shooters ear and has less back pressure. With a super high backpressure can, even with it tuned, the gas that is still being sent back is a lot more violent with a stronger impulse,so it’s going to have more ejection port blast and gas then a high flow rate suppressor.

do you think it's possible that a very careful and conservative firing schedule on an 11.5 could see the same lack of wear after 1000 rounds that you did? Or will that short of a barrel likely inherently wear through the silencer regardless of temperature?
@Kenposhinobi
@Kenposhinobi 4 ай бұрын
Nope, you will be fine as long as you are at their prescribed 10in barrel or longer. Titanium can handle blast and unburnt power fine. Just overheating it and keeping it overheated is what will start to degrade it beyond normal wear. All cans no matter the material will wear over time. But as long as you keep the heat in check, CAT quotes their Ti cans at a 100,000 round lifespan .
@AlabamaArsenal
@AlabamaArsenal 4 ай бұрын
While that’s definitely going to be harder on the can I think if you stay within the temperature threshold as much as possible you should be ok. But keep in mind that length barrel will heat up even faster than either of the examples shown in the video. Thanks for watching!

I really hope these live up to the hype. As a lefty, I tried a SF RC2 on my 16 inch DD and 11.5 Geissle….a 5 round string caused my eyes to burn and ruin my focus on the target. Pretty depressing thinking that suppressing my rifles means I have to ruin my shooting experience and eat shit.
@Kenposhinobi
@Kenposhinobi 4 ай бұрын
They are definitely very low backpressure . But you have to remember that DD and Geissele make “Duty rifles” and come overgassed from the factory. And any suppressor at all, no matter how fast the flow rate is, is going to add gas to a degree and won’t fix an already overgassed gun. Theres no magic. If you are running an already overgassed gun, you will need to supplement the can with heavier springs, heavier buffers, adjustable gas block, BRT Gas tubes etc.
@Briathos1
@Briathos1 4 ай бұрын
@@Kenposhinobi I appreciate your response more than you know. Admittedly, I’m new to suppressors and I haven’t played with Tuning a gun. Again, forgive my ignorance but when you start playing with buffer weights and other aspects of tuning…does that mean that I am severely limited to the ammo I can reliably use? I have heard people talk about tuning the gun for a suppressor but of course I don’t want to lose reliability. Maybe I can’t have my cake and eat it too but have a fun that doesn’t gas me out but only works with a specific brand, type and weight of bullet also sounds kind of lame. Tell me like it is!
@Kenposhinobi
@Kenposhinobi 4 ай бұрын
@@Briathos1 no problem man. When it comes to suppressed 5.56, you really have to tune the gas down a lot before you get into ammo related reliability issues. And just a heavier spring and buffer won’t do that and it’s a good place to start. On my main gun which is a 12.5, I run a Sprinco Blue buffer spring, H3 buffer weight and a riflespeed adjustable gas block. With my CGS SCI SIX which is a can with moderate backpressure, I can tune my gun all the way down till it won’t even cycle without the can on it and it still eats any ammo i give it. Anytime I put a new can on my gun, I close the gas all the way, place a single round in the mag and shoot. I open the gas and keep doing that till I get reliable bolt lock back, then I open the gas a click or 2 to ensure reliability. With this method I’ve still had amazing reliability and even take that rifle to lots of long multi day, high round count classes. And tuning a gun actually gives better long term reliability. A gun that is extremely overgassed is going to get dirty quicker and wear out buffer and extractor springs faster and have a much higher possibility of cracking the bolt eventually. And you don’t have to tune the gun as far down as I do. You could just tune it without the suppressor till it cycles, but won’t lock back, then you know with a can, you will still have plenty of gas. And with a higher flow rate can, you won’t need to tune the gas near as much.
@TheMikeshannon
@TheMikeshannon 4 ай бұрын
@Briathos1 perfectly suitable to tune a rifle to run a high pressure can with multitude of ammo. If you make a standard rifle undergassed just on the edge of locking back with pmc 223, you will still be just a little overgassed with hotter stuff like winchester m193. But to get the least amount of gas possible shooting hot stuff you're either sacrificing reliability with under loaded stuff or getting a little more gas to the face. You're unfortunately at a biological disadvantage. That being said, if you tune a gun to run an rc2 with 556 it is going to be severely undergassed without the can. You can't really have a gun reliably cycle underpowered ammo unsuppressed, yet not be overgassed with high power ammo with a high pressure can like the rc2
@Briathos1
@Briathos1 4 ай бұрын
@@TheMikeshannon This makes total sense. I appreciate the response. Without having owned suppressors….my thought is that they would be dedicated to the rifle. I have never been interested in having one can then swapping them back and forth. Havin to re-zero and all that. I could see where having it tuned to get the least amount of gas then making it unreliable when not suppressed. However, if I’m gonna give the government money in a tax stamp, pay for the can itself AND wait however long….my plan was to just leave them on other Tiana the occasional cleaning. Good things to think about.

Cat WB, flow 5.56, Cat ODB, maxim DSX, or flow 7.62ti? Which one performed the best on 5.56, disregard length.
@Kenposhinobi
@Kenposhinobi 4 ай бұрын
Depends on the metric. In accordance with the PewScience Data, As far as shooters ear and backpressure reduction, the FLOW556 is the best, but is one of the boomiest cans at the muzzle. The DSX is the quietest at the muzzle, but is the worst backpressure/shooter’s ear without tuning your gun. The CAT ODB, WB and FLOW762 are all within 2 points of each other at backpressure/shooter’s ear, being about 2 points less then the 556k. CAT ODB is next at the muzzle under the DSX, WB is a point louder at the muzzle then the ODB, and the FLOW762 is the same at the muzzle as the WB. And FLOW762 Vs ODB, the FLOW sucks with subsonic 300BLK while the ODB is phenomenal on 300BLK. The CAT ODB and WB both are getting RC2 muzzle performance with FLOW762/Velos LBP ear performance with the ODB just slightly edging out the WB because of it’s length and internal volume.

@@Kenposhinobi so the ODB Ti (which I would like to see that same heat testing on) is probably the best ounce for ounce suppressor on the market pending vent 3 testing. I am curious if the additional volume and possible wall thickness (?) of the ODB allows for greater volume of fire before hitting the said heat threshold. I only excluded the inconel odb due to the weight factor and my personal use case.
@Kenposhinobi
@Kenposhinobi 4 ай бұрын
@@ricosroughnecks1223 as of right now, I would say yes. And Mr Recce on Instagram also heat tested the ODB. Depending on host, it tends to be able to take roughly 5 more rounds then the WB before hitting 550ish degrees.

Stainless heats up much slower than titanium but stays hot longer. Inconel/stellite/cobalt 6 heat up very slowly but stay hot for 15+ minutes once they get glowing red

This is great info, answering a lot of questions including some I didn't know to ask. The matchup of the year will be Radical Defense LS-5 and CS-5 vs CAT WB. I talked with the RD R&D lead for quite a while at Quiet In The Capitol and took a few demo shots and was very interested and impressed. I got the impression their Ti version will be more durable than the WB. I hope you all are able to get those to test sometime soon.

First off the WB is 556 only and doesn’t have the bore for 300BLK. CAT’s 30cal can is called ODB and it’s phenomenal with subs you should check out our video on it. You should also check out our video on the Huxwrx 762ti, while it is an impressive can the tech doesn’t really work with subs, while the cat tech does amazingly well. I am of course assuming since you’re shooting 300BLK you’ll want something that works with subs. I deleted my comment about the titanium sparking, it was a bit redundant. But, the firing schedule on the titanium is way too strict. Most AR owners will honestly never push that limit, but most are M&P Sport owners who never take it out of the piss closet. Those owners will likely never buy a suppressor either. For those of us that do, you can't even run drills without overtaking the Ti can, and that kinda stinks. I like the idea of weight savings, but my inconel cans have no restrictions.

That’s not at all what the Ti can is for though…. This is true of all titanium cans… and they have actually done some impressive testing of the Ti. It’s purely for people and or applications where wight makes sense… home defense guns for example where in that situation I’m not firing enough rounds to do damage to the can.
@SOCMMOB
@SOCMMOB 4 ай бұрын
@@TennisPro4686289 that makes no sense. You should be firing your “home defense gun” the most. If not, you’re just one of the “I bought one cuz it’s cool, I guess” people. Which is fine. Also, you don’t need light weight on a home defense gun. You should probably stop trying to justify products you don’t understand. Lightweight cans that are light use only make sense for hunting or maybe bench rest. Even some long range competitions have firings schedules this can couldn’t take.

It's really too bad the way they distribute these cans. There is clear demand and I understand that manufacturing is a bottle neck but at the same time, why are you allowing dealer backorders from the same place individuals have to buy them? Makes zero sense. I don't know if this is a failure on SilencerShop's part of CAT just wanting this product going out to market as a dang free for all.

Why does every video with these suppressors look gassy as hell, they say they're low back pressure but I see no evidence of that. Some of the people at the Capital Armory silencer event said these were pretty underwhelming once they got behind them.

I’ve shot the CAT cans back to back with the FLOW556K the FLOW762 and the Velos LBP. The FLOW556k is definitely the lowest backpressure, but is very boomy at the muzzle. The CAT Cans, FLOW762 and Velos LBP are all extremely close to each other and I couldn’t discern a difference in gas or recoil impulse. Which lines up identical to the PewScience data. And you have to remember man, these guns are gas operated to begin with, and even the FLOW 556k is going to add gas. And if it’s an already overgassed host unsuppressed, a high flow can isn’t going to fix it. And some people just set their expectations too high and expect magic. Comparing the lab data, the CAT cans are getting RC2 levels of muzzle performance, while still achieving FLOW762/Velos LBP gas reduction. Which is unheard of for their size.
