Camp Rock is a 2008 Disney Channel Original Movie starring the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato. The music is written by Julie Brown, Paul Brown, Regina Hicks and Karen Gist. The film is directed by Matthew Diamond and produced by Alan Sacks.

The Northie Clearly you didn't have many children around. My sister and my little cousin were 6/8 when it came out and got obsessed with it. I actually got into Demi Lovato's own music cause my cousin used to listen to her album relentlessly 😂

As soon as Doug said this was a bad film, I felt afraid to look at the comments. I knew loads of people loved this film, and even though I hadn't seen it myself, I knew Doug would be fighting an uphill battle. Then I failed to see Jack Black in any of these clips, and realised I was thinking of _School of Rock._

I remember this movie vividly. Not because of anything actually in it, but because it was mostly filmed at Kilcoo Camp, which is near where I grew up. Lots of students at my high school even got to be background extras, though I couldn't, because I had started growing facial hair and it conflicted with Disney's image of what a teenager must look like in their films. I'll probably never see most of my old peers again...but at least they're immortalized, even if it's in a cliche movie.

Disney Channel's ALWAYS loved that "Fish out of water" style of plot but they do it right they add creative bits of humor, character development, even action sometimes....just not in this movie...

I watched this on TV with notes that popped up explaining how certain scenes were filmed and other aspects of the production. Learning how the movie was made was a lot more interesting than the movie itself (I loved learning about the "behind the scenes" of movies as a kid).

I'm aware. But he's likely very busy and might not watch all of his stuff, just occasional. After all, if somebody tried to be a manager, do weekly videos, daily videos, live a life, AND watch every single Channel Awesome year end countdown lists, something would have to go. Likely, that's the year end countdown lists.

Unlike James Rolfe and the AVGN, I believe Doug and the NC are almost the same. He truly does get screechy high pitched when he's upset at something. The outfit and the occasional narcissism in the anniversary specials are the only things the NC has to differentiate himself.

I hated this movie when it came out. for something called "Camp Rock" there isn't any ROCK. Hell, i think it would have been great if there had been a mix up and it was some nerdy kid wanting to go to a geology camp and then showed up to this. that would have been better

You know, I've seen the reverse of that plot line in one or two things but I've never seen THAT particular plot line before. That would be kind of hilarious or at least quirky. I'd love to hear a few good jokes on schist and feldspar.

I mean, there were a few songs there that were actual Rock. That Jonas Brothers one in particular harkens back to Weezer-esque Power Pop/Pop Rock. And if I remember correctly, at the end there was a rock ballad performed by one of the campers. At the very least, it's Pop Rock.

especially becuase in some episodes they were totally crazy. like when they create the "Oh Yeah" song, and apparently, all creative process for making songs involves beating the shit out of each otherm and also they kept gustavo busy with a fake spa that ended up making him act like godzilla. OR the episode where they try to appear in the morning news. the main director was actualy planning on tazzer/electrocute their asses off. or a personal favorite: the reality show episode.

She hasn't been an actress of note since... ever but she was popular on disney between 2008ish-2012, though she's sustained her success as a popstar. She had a massive hit only back in 2015 - Todd in the Shadows ranked it as the 2nd best of that year if I remember right.

I refuse to accpet the music in this movie as Rock. They should call it Camp TweenPop, or Camp Guy or Gal with Acoustic Guitar you know cuz it's the bare minimum of what you may call music. I remember when i was a kid avoiding this movie like the plague, even then i was old to know how cliched and campy it was and i dind't even know what those words meant back then.

I remember watching this when it premiered. I was 11, and my older sister was genuinely enjoying it. But then I pointed out that the Jonas Brothers didn’t even have a drummer during a performance where you CLEARLY can hear drums. Then we just laughed and made fun of it the rest of the time. Truly a great movie for family bonding.

If this movie did one thing is that it did launch Demi Lavato's career music wise. People realized she could sing and my god sing well. She actually made success in her life unlike some other Disney Actors/Musicians.

I remember my sister absolutely loving this movie when it came out, I also remember hating it with a burning passion, I was salty because they called it camp rock, but there's only cheesy pop songs and it had nothing to do with rock music at all, my 13 year old emo self was not pleased 😂

"Failed Jonas Brother project" sounds so redundant. Which project of them wasn't a fail? The TV series was so painful to watch, not even the spanish dubbed version was passable.

Fun fact, for well over a year, on the show's Wikipedia page, under "critical reactions", one unnamed critic was quoted as likening the entire first season to "Goodfellas but with more pop music, teenagers, and less Gangsters." This quote did not exist. No one changed this for over a year. That is how gladly the world forgot the TV show known as Jonas.

I remember going on a massive, weeks-long road trip as a kid, and my parents bought one of those DVD players that hang on the back of car seats and a handful of movies to play on it. Camp Rock was one of them, so I've seen this movie upwards of thirty times. I know every song, every story beat and every DVD special feature practically by heart, I even watched it dubbed into other languages. The worst part is, I hated it the first time, but each subsequent viewing wore me down, and now I kind of love it. It's like movie Stockholm Syndrome.

I remember as a pre teen my friends and I would enjoy this movie. It never was as popular as HM and we actually forgot about it a few week after we watched it, the only thing we remembered was Demi's smile which always made us die of laughter. We actually used to imitate her.

Choco Zoe a) Doug Walker does Disneycember as himself, not the Nostalgia Critic b) If you could hear in his voice in this Disneycember compared to ones he actually did despise, you would know that he didn't seem to really hate this movie (the way I heard his voice, he seemed to think that it was one of the worst DCOMs, but not in a truly offensive way) c) If you really want to see a Disneycember that made me think of the NC review of Mamma Mia!, watch the Disneycember for Cheetah Girls.

My favorite part is when the guy is singing while playing acoustic guitar and he has harmony for some reason. I wanted it to zoom out and you just see the two other brothers hiding behind the bushes singing.

First I can't help but snicker at the name "Mitchy". Thanks Gaim. I adored this film as a kid....I'm not proud of it but I did. But it's so calming to see it torn to shreds.
