Here in Sweden it would just be a pair of cross country ski’s, also snowshoes, pulling a pulk sled, and build a snow shelter. It’s all you need. Keep life simple. Your dog is gorgeous by the way !

Indeed Neil - Simplicity is beautiful, especially in winter. I've done a few trips like that (pulk, snow shoes & hot tent) but I try and make the channel unique. ATV & UTVs are very popular in Canada and the US and showing people how they can allow you to access the wilderness is part of my goal 👍

Just a little tip for you if you wish to try it. Take Wd 40 and spray it on your plastics and metal areas where you think snow builds up. Sprayed in a rag wipe it on. I do this all the time if I'm going out hunting and know I'm gonna to get mud on my rzr. it keeps the mud down might work for keep the snow. can't hurt to try it
@TheEmporiumOutdoors
@TheEmporiumOutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris - I do the same with Armor All - Its kinda the same, leaves a slick film on the plastics. I also use RainX for the windshield that helps keep the snow and ice from sticking! Great tip! 👍

The Emporium Outdoors ic you already know a few tricks yourself. LOL when I was younger I actually armour old my car. The black shined really good and the thing was slippery. My friends made fun of me at that time but when you're 16 what do you know right. RainX is a very good idea to. I use it on my truck and on my boat for when I'm fishing in tournaments. Keep up the great videos and I enjoy watching them. I was thinking about tracts for my RZR. At this time of the year there's not enough snow for the snowmachine when travelling down the road to get to my lakes but there still a little too much snow on the lake for the wheels

Fine adventure, my friend. That rig, with those tracks... excellent! I have the CLAM Pavillion (biggest one) that I used a few times last season. It's a bit bulky for one person, but, not too shabby. No hot-tent feature with mine, however. Esme's lookin' pretty smooth in her new jacket. She trying out as the next "Bond Girl" now? Good to see that you were able to get the rig fired up in the cold. That's never bad news.

Thanks RatDogDRB - CLAM make some fine products! My Cabalas is great for one but too small for 2 and the stove - 2 without a stove would work. Esme likes her new coat! 🐶 I might try the booties again - she might of changed her mind on the whole cloths thing 🤔

I’ve got to tell you my friend, you almost have me sold on a Defender. When a guy is honest enough to leave the part in when he has his shoes on the wrong feet, you gotta trust that he’s shooting straight on his recommendations! I have 2 Argos and one might be enough if the other spot on the trailer is a Defender.
@TheEmporiumOutdoors
@TheEmporiumOutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
Hahaha thanks Carl! I loved my Argo but it was too much of a compromise for the 95% of riding I was doing. The range was a real issue - but it was very capable when it finally got there! 👍 I was 50/50 with the Can Am and the Polaris Ranger. I got a good deal on the 2019 as the 2020 where coming out. I didn't care about the air-con option!

It looks like you've finally found your ideal winter combo- an insulated hot tent and a -45 sleeping bag. It's the first time you ever reported a perfect nights sleep! Esme looked like she was loving the new bed bag♥️ I was wondering how much food you take with you- do you take extra in case of emergency? Have you ever had to hot tent in a blizzard? That seems like the ultimate test of your set up. Take care you 2

Hello Michael and Esme !! As much as I like argos, I must admit, after watching this video, that this Canam with the tracks, heated cab, suspension and it's speed is a more logical choice over the argo. It's capabilities are quite impressive too. Can't blame you for selling the argo. My only concern is the inside cab noise that is often problematic with side by sides. A decibel sound test would be something interesting.... Anyway, this is another super video, I greatly enjoyed wathing, can't wait for the next one. Stay safe and ......warm!!
@TheEmporiumOutdoors
@TheEmporiumOutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Stéphane! I will miss the Argo especially for spring with the melt water but the Can Am is more practical for sure! I just completed the CVS relocation as part of the track hit and the cab is even louder now as the intake is behind the drivers seat 😲 - Not the quietest of machines! LOL

i guess in Canada they say it differently than down here, i've always heard it said thusly: an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. but either way, at least we both know what each other are talking about. nice video, those tracks are doing great on the can am, i like how you don't let the scary parts deter you from trying it anyway, i have a 570 sportsman just a regular ATV, and i'm the same way, i scare my kids and grandkids at times, but you only live once....RIGHT!? keep em coming Michael, Esme, & Simon...more adventures ahead ehhh?

Hey Michael, another great video of your adventures with Esmeralda, I can say that the 45 degree hill you showed us at your campsite would not be an issue, I speak from experience I have done hills like this in the same depth of snow with steeper grades and longer, the key I have found to these types of hills is momentum and some speed and not to spin a track and you climb right up, however I can understand why you are cautious, better cautious than stuck on your own with an extremely long walk out. My defender and tracks still keep on amazing me as to how much snow they will take on and go through it. Cheers MT

Thanks MT! I'm still learning the capabilities right now but its beyond my expectations! Being solo does keeps me sensible! I don't take risks if I can help it. Risks can end up costing you in time, money and energy! How long have you had the Defender and the tracks?

The Emporium Outdoors I absolutely agree, being solo does mean extra vigilance, I would not suggest anything but. I enjoy watching your adventures. I will provide you with any information to you on things I have learned about my travels in the snow. I run a trap line and these tracks and defender amaze me every trip. Take care MT.

Hi Jimmy but they can't be used with anything other than deep snow. The Apache 360 LT allow me to use them into the early spring with patchy snow and frozen ground. It a compromise but its the one that makes more sense to me 👍

I just enjoy seeing some one else use these outside the box of what is deemed "Normal Camping". No it's not a bush craft type set up in normal conditions on a hike in unless they plan to use a sled train to haul things in. That's a lot of weight to pull and I would probably want to go out before hand in snow conditions and pre break a trail to camp so it makes pulling that easier. Or use a snow mobile with a toboggan.

Out here I'm usually camping near a road since my knees won't let me hike any more. Until I buy a defender which is close. I probably won't go far from the road. And we have pretty tight foot print restrictions here. They frown on heading off trail here. Even though no one obeys the law. Welcome to the wild west I guess.

Let’s just say if Esme goes missing, you would be justified in showing up at my door to look for her. Lol. 👍🏻🤣 You say the ice fishing tent is heavy.... how heavy? I would choose the ice fishing tent over the Snow Trekker... unless I was backpacking or canoeing; You should have set up a warm, comfy place for Esme before setting up that cot.

Hahaha - Now I know where to look! 😆 I think the ice tent is 39lb vs Snowtrekker 16lb. Esme will always sit on my gear! She had her OneTigris insulated pad off camera - I always make sure she has that to sit on during setup 😉

The Emporium Outdoors - Good to know, thank you. 39 pounds can definitely be significant weight. Every night for dinner, I used to walk to and from the grocery store... while wearing 90 pounds of weight. Part of that weight was a 40 pound vest. But that was in Miami... no snow in sight. Lol. It just seemed as if Esme was particularly eager to get off the snow in this video. I remember you usually set her up first and I did not see that in this video... but like you said, off camera. 👍🏻

Hi, Micheal and Esme, that machine is a beast and quite impressive. I would have to sell both my properties and live in my tent to have it, lol. Not sure if I told you, I bought an Eskimo insulated shelter that sleeps 3-4 on Amazon for $129. Did you see the new Stihl MSA 220 battery charged chain saw on KZfaq? Really nice but, not practical for camping, I don't think. Take care and thanks for sharing.

Yea - they are pretty pricey....no doubt about that! The Eskimo was a steal at that price! When do you plan testing it? I took a look @ the Stihl MSA 220 - I like the idea BUT batteries at -15c would suck! Great for summer but I wouldn't trust it for winter. Take care buddy!

Nothing much to do with Esme's fur but you could get a trim or 2 (Can't do anything with the hair anyways). So I got a Anorak from my cousin John in Australia but I should have said a canvas one. He sent me a Black and Olive Drab and it's got Polyester, Spandex and Canvas and 2 big side zippers so it can fit over the 2 pillows I swallowed. NOTHING WORSE THAN THE SOUND OF A CHAINSAW IN THE WOODS WHILE YOUR TRYING TO GET PEACE AND QUIET... .... AND here comes the Brit with his John Bundy gas powered industrial chainsaw to screw up the weekend lol.

Thanks for posting your videos...right up my alley. I try to get out as much as I can either solo or with friends so watching your videos is like being there. I have been considering the exact same set up as yours for the last couple of years, already have the tracks on, my Outlander which the dealer says will fit the defender, I am currently using an enclosed trailer allowing me just enough room to get on and off the bike when the tracks are on. Just wondering if you know off hand what your width (Outside track to outside track) and height of your unit with tracks on is as well please. What are you using for a trailer? Keep the videos going.
@TheEmporiumOutdoors
@TheEmporiumOutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Brian - I've removed the tracks now but I think the unit was 74" wide with them on. For the height its very tall! I could get it out of my garage without dismounting the closing mechanism. It raises the bottom of the machine 16" from the floor as I recall. I have a single axel 14" ops trailer. I'd like to upgrade to a twin axle 7000lb model. Hope that helps!

Hard to believe the Argo would not make it up that hill. I have owned 3 argos and sold ATV tracks for 15 years, seems odd to me. Those were 4 wheel tracks in the show as they were the same width apart all the way when you followed them
@TheEmporiumOutdoors
@TheEmporiumOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Mike - The tracks I had on the Argo where the plastic 18" Super tracks and they sucked for traction. I should have bought the rubber tracks but I got bad information from the dealer and found not much online to convince me to buy the more expensive ones. Now I know better however, rubber all the way!! 👍

That can am is doing so much better than the 6x6 Argo. Looking back do you think spending the extra on an 8x8 would have be better? I moose hunt in swampy areas and have been thinking on an Argo
@TheEmporiumOutdoors
@TheEmporiumOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
The Can Am with tracks is a very capable machine. If you go with the Argo - Just make sure you buy the rubber tracks not the plastic like I did! 😔 Personally - the Can Am with tracks is cheaper than an Argo with tracks and cab etc. But the Can Am is much more comfortable and lots faster! 👍 If you want to cross swamps Argo is the only option however! Defenders don't float 😄
