Winter Hot Tent Camping with the Snowtrekker Tent and Can Am Defender

In this video Esme and I wilderness camp in our Snowtrekker Hot Tent travelling with our Can Am Defender UTV.
We love winter camping in our snowtrekker hot tent! Its one of the best things about winter in Canada. We also enjoyed using the Can Am defender to haul all our gear into the wilderness and still stay warm in the cab!
The hot tent stove real does provide a great space for Esme and I to enjoy the snow. We cant wait to get back out on our next trip!

Esme is a great dog. I haven’t done any winter camping but I’m sure my husky/shepherd would absolutely love it and she would be fabulous company.

Some fab techniques regarding how to regulate temperatures on a stove, I’ve learnt from you again Michael, thanks. Also the temp gauge was great, I must look in to one of those. Thanks buddy! Its a pretty nice setup but it took me several years of trial and error to get something that works for my needs and I'm still refining it. I have a small Tipi hot tent coming next week that might be interesting to try! Take it easy Michael & Esme!

the most intelligent man on youtube, it has always killed me to see all the camping videos with all these people using a hand saw to cut wood even when pulling a sled. I always think to myself that a small chainsaw would not add that much weight and would say so much time and backache to get your wood cut and finally you prove me right.

I really like the Snowtrekker tent with the traditional canvas construction - I know you have the Kifaru tipi's (Love the videos BTW) and they are great for backpacking but for internal space utilization they are not super great imho. The snowtrekker is pulk-able and with your Ti stove it would be awesome! Looking forward to more videos - Best wishes Michael!

Good times indeed getting out in the winter wonderland. Your right about not wanting to be out in the rain....myself I would not really want my Atuk tent to get all muddied up.... but with my Silpoly Hot tent I love the rain and cool temps. So far here it is rain, little bit of snow and more rain with temps skirting 5* either side of 0c.... itching to get out with work done for the season but some home projects to wrap up first.

I hear you - wet and cold are not good together! In Canada the humidity is very low in winter and the cold is very different! I love the snow 😃🌨

Thanks for the video ~ BTW it's not "prissy" to take care of your items. I personally believe find a man who takes care of his tools and vehicles and you've found a man who will take care of his wife and family! I should have ran like hell when I saw my EXhusband's table saw sitting OUTSIDE the garage and rusty from the elements! I now have custody of the table saw and it's in much better hands AND condition. It's also kept INSIDE the garage!! Peace

Yea - funny weather this year - The snow is currently melting away - So the bush is going to be crazy bad for UTV travel 🤨 Soon be colder and we can get back to hot tent camping 👍

I agree with you I also take care of my stuff...we had it drummed into us as very young children. I also don't like wasting money these items are bought with hard earned cash. Don't think you took too much stuff its nice to be comfortable, especially when its so cold.

Hi Michael and Esme. I'm glad you've upgraded from the Argo- it must be nice to get home from a trip without feeling like your nuts and spine have be done over with rubber mallet! (We chatted about the Argos lack of suspension a year ago on my old GBrewer account). Like your new wood splitting axe too, a lot easier to use than a hatchet I'm sure🙂.

it is always a pleasure watching you and your buddy Esme camping out together. i just seen where Dutchware hammock sytem owner came out with a Wde winter tarp for hammock with doors and you can get a mod pole system for inside the tent. camping. Looking at hammocks myself for 2020.

Hammocks are awesome so dive in ....there so awesome I had to build myself some Hammock Hot Tents to fully luxuriate in the winter season...hoping for some -40 weather at some point but so far have only got to -30c last few yrs.

@@TheEmporiumOutdoors You have the skills to sew one up so no excuse and with that you'll be selling that cot hahahhaa Mine is 12x6x6' approx and I used 1.1oz PU4000 silpoly... cotton one used 100% painters drop cloth....video on my channel amoungst everything else there. Design one to suit your needs/space..

Its a kind of fun to winter camp Hannah! I work in the IT industry so I listen to "Security Now", "Mac Break Weekly" and "True Crime" for something different! Not very exciting! LOL

Started watching your videos recently. A nicely different take on the standard "Bushcraft" fare and really enjoyable. Thanks therfore for sharing. Likethe tests you do, gives me some good ideas for my overlanding travels in the Balkans and beyond. Would appreciate it if you let us know what your chest rig is? Hi Alan! Thanks for checking out the channel! Overlanding in the Balkans sounds epic! The check rig is the Ribz front pack but I don't think they make them anymore. I can recommend the Helikon-Tex Wombat as an alternative! Best wishes from Canada 🇨🇦

Have u seen a kodiak canvas tent. It has a silicone/rubber floor in it. I have the 10x10 flex bow. Had a stove Jack installed and run a kni co trekker in it.

not sure if u make fires outside? but if u stand sticks up around the fire while the fire is going (outside) you can dry them off pretty well that way.

Brilliant mate! I’m enjoying this outside by the fireplace on a chilly Friday evening with a scotch in hand. Life is grand! The new ride is certainly miles better than the Argo in terms of comfort and speed. My request: Next time for Esme you human space (loved that!) and less music during the setup montage.

That sounds awesome 🥃 by the fire. I'm always trying to balance the use of music as I'm not a big fan of it either - but it fills in some of the video without audio or little audio. I can normally stand about 90seconds of it then it gets irritating. Thanks for the feedback! 😉

The Emporium Outdoors I do have another request: could you kindly do a video on gear cleaning and storage? It is something I struggle with at home and would love your take on it ... from how/ where to store sleeping bags, to cleaning tents and gear after a wet or muddy trip and everything in between. A wet and cool (8C) day here ... rather miserable when I see the lovely snow from this video.

Greetings from Alaska, I just found your video and enjoyed it a lot. I am 72 years old and a disabled Vietnam Veteran and I still go out during the Winter time and camp as well. I think you would do well to put some tracks on that UTV. I am buying some for my 4by. Friends have them and hardly ever get stuck. Now listen, you're a big guy so you are entitled to more than 1 pancake, LOL. Bacon and /or sausage would go well with them also. I'm an eater, LOL. I will look for more of your videos and subscribe. Thanks for sharing.

Hi BushratJohn - Thats awesome that you are still winter camping @ 72 and I hope to follow your example! Also thank you for your service! I'm a former soldier too. I plan to put some tracks on it but it might be next year - They are like $7k CAD and I will need to save up some spare cash. Hahah love the pancakes but I don't eat meat I haven't harvested myself so the sausage and bacon will have to wait 😉 Might be deer sausage soon! Best wishes from Alberta! Michael & Esme 🐶

Good day. How is machine in snow? We had 2 ft at deer camp this year in Michigans upper peninsula. Our small atv's wouldn't go anywhere. We have put a deposit down on the exact same machine you have. Does the heat and defrost work well? Curious how warm it gets inside cab. Thank you

Hi Paul, 24" of powder snow "might" be ok but all machines with wheels will get high centred. You really need tracks to be on the safe side. I was on the limit in the conditions in the video. The heater and the defrost work very well! T-Shirt temperatures once it warms up! 😉

How do you like the Can Am compared to the Argo? Why not a snowmobile? I hot tent with mine. Have fun I’m gearing up and getting ready for the season 😊❤️🇺🇸☃️⛺️❄️🛷

They are pretty different machines and they both have their strengths. Can am is more comfortable that's for sure but the Argo can go anywhere. A snow machine probably won't work for Esme 🐶 but we have never tried. I hope your trip goes well for you!!! 🌨🏕

Too many comments to see if someone already said this, but if the gun rack is straight up and down, will you have enough cab height for a long shotgun or rifle? Maybe that’s why it’s tilted back? Great video. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Michael - Great thought, something I didn't consider but I don't think it will matter that much. You can adjust the lower mounting butt pads to lower the guns if needed. I'd prefer something that didn't take up the middle seat location if I'm honest - More research required! 😉

I’m surprised by the Can Am, I would think a set of Adair tracks, windshield and canvass top on the Argo would be a superior machine in the bush. As you have found out those plastic tracks are pretty much garbage. Great videos.

Hi N L - The Can Am gives me more range than the Argo and some more comfort but it won't compete in the rough stuff. The Argo is still champion for that. I was hoping for better performance on the plastic tracks but we will see - I'm pretty sure the snow last year was weird as it was like sand - no clumping at all, making it difficult going. You live and learn 😃
