Can I fix the leak on my Shed Roof? - Part 2. Felt nailed to the roof was never going to last for ever. In Part 1 I did a quick fix with a spray on repair from Poundland? When I checked the morning after a rainy night, there were still a few drips showing so I decided to buy some proper roof sealant from B&Q.

Good luck, this series ran to 5 episodes and it was still leaking at the end. The point is that where it is dripping is NOT where the leak is. I think the water is getting through the "waterproof" felt, where it has degraded of the years, then running down underneath until it gets to the nail holes and then dripping through. The best fix would be to replace the felt. Alternatively, paint it all over with this mastic stuff, rather than just where I thought the leaks were.

If all these coatings fail then go buy a sheet of rubber roofing large enough for a 5 inch overhang and nail it only on the sides. No nail holes on top. Just make sure the thickness of the rubber sheeting is a thick enough grade not to tear. Lol, that’s my last two cents worth on the subject. 🤪

I think the felt may actually be the problem, it may have gone porous somehow. It has a gritty layer on the surface but on one strip it seems to have all washed away. In episode 4 (I think) I talk about it. Last couple of days have been dry, so I don't know if I have fixed it. I am probably just delaying the inevitable, where I will have to replace the felt.

Nice and neat. Wish my shed roof looked like yours did when you started lol. Big hole in the thing, which, coincidentally I'm fixing this week. I've bought the same sort of tar for it, which has worked very well on a problem area on the front porch for the last 2 years.

I think it is the felt leaking. I can't see any damage but I was up there on a dry day (yesterday) and can see that part of it looks worn and all the gritty covering has washed away.. It doesn't show in the wet, but is noticeable in the dry. Before I started this I did contact the people who built the shed for me, but they are too busy at the moment to do the work. Personally I am pleased to hear they are busy in this difficult times. They did give me a date they said they might be able to look at it, but I said I would see if I could do a quick fix first.

Did you know you could simulate rain with a garden hose?

It only leaks in certain conditions, so just spraying it with water would not be an accurate simulation. Over the years, many storms have passed over with no leak. Yet other times, the water finds a way through. You will find a full playlist for this series in the video description 👍

Yes, either option would fix it. You will see from the video description, this ran over several episodes (playlist included in the video description) and I still didn't fix it. The funny thing is, I have done nothing to it since then and it seems to have stopped leaking, so it is probably a combination of wind direction and amount of rain. I did contact the guys who made the shed for me, but they were "too busy" to come and refelt it for me. Maybe next year.

Shed roof is felted incorrectly, hence it pisses water in, never bang nails thru felt, totally the wrong way to use felt, felt needs to be stuck down with a liquid sealant, starting from the gutter then work up to the ridge on a pent roof, or from gutter to highest point on a sloping roof, plenty of overhang, use a heatgun to form the edges, only ever nail on edges or under over hang if suitable.

That will be the ultimate fix, but have you seen a video on KZfaq of anybody trying these cheap fixes and giving an honest review?

@@fredflintstone1 the first video made it pretty clear what I was doing and why. Like I said, a can of spray for £2 would have been a brilliant fix if it worked. I have seen adverts of spray on repairs that seem quite miraculous. As a side issue, did you ever fly that helicopter, I have always wondered what you did with it 😁

Unfortunately it didn't fix the leak. Not because it wasn't any good, but because the roof must be leaking somewhere else and running under the felt to where it drips through.
