It surprises many people to know that the existence of God is not an object of faith but can be known from creation. Given that we can know truth and reality, what does it reveal about the existence of God?

There are two sites I access on consistent basis--yours, and "how to be Christian". I'm always anxious to hear new content, precisely because they are succinct in dealing with many personal nagging questions. Thank you Doug for your excellent work. I also find your personality to be that which I aspire to. I can be an "in your face" intense Italian when debating Protestants.. It helps to see how you deal w/ other, non catholics, in such a kind way--yet unwavering in your Catholicism. It's to be admired. Thank you sir and God Bless You.

Thank you for this. Your clarity is delightful! I like Lonergan's version of the transcendental argument, which looks a lot like an argument from desire.

Setting aside the question of whether "essence" is a meaningful concept (I don't think so), the last argument still seems like a retread of the argument from first cause. Also, calling this purported entity whose essence is existence a 'being' seems like smuggling the concept of personhood into the argument without foundation. You're deliberately aiming at your conclusion, and it shows.

Call it whatever you want, what something is and whether or not there are any are distinct and that's all the argument needs. This is not a mere first cause argument is you mean the kind popular today that rely on the problem of infinite numbers of causes and effects.

Do you need proof? GOD WROTE HIS LAW on our heart. Asking me if I believe in GOD --- is like asking me if I believe I have a mother

Which God are you referring to? The Muslim God, the Christian God, or any of the thousands of other Gods out there? Believe if you must, but always question that belief.

@@DouglasBeaumont Faith is not proof. Like hopes and prayers, it is meaningless nonsense when applied to real life.
