Hello all and good day to you! :) This is Rodger, and I first want to say THANK YOU to everyone for checking out, "Can you play Descent solo." I will be returning to this series and doing a MUCH better-implemented system for playing Descent solo and using a tripod for the camera. ;) Sorry for the wavy camera. But for those of you who may not know, for the past few years, I have been working incredibly hard on my game Dungeon Crusade Book I: Genesis of Evil. It was successfully funded on the Kickstarter platform and is now within manufacturing. It's truly a great season in all of our lives with awaiting Dungeon Crusade to ship out in early 2020. A little backstory on me is I set out years ago to create/develop Dungeon Crusade. I wanted to break the mold of the fantasy adventure/dungeon crawl genre and give fellow gamers and people something innovative, thematic, immersive, challenging, and fun. Ever since I was young, until now, I've been incredibly passionate about fantasy adventure/dungeon crawl types of games. I grew up playing board games like Dungeonquest, Dark Tower, Warhammer Quest, and of course, Heroquest. But I also LOVE those PC RPG's from that golden era as I call it. Games like the Ultima series, Eye of the Beholder, Might & Magic, Icewind Dale, Wizardry and my personal favorite Baldur's Gate. Plus, many more. I'm a Diablo junkie! I poured a ton of creativity, imagination, passion, and ingenuity into designing Dungeon Crusade for people, and the game came out genuinely outstanding. So I invite you to head over to the companies KZfaq channel, hang out with us, and check out a plethora of great videos of Dungeon Crusade I created. Above all, I thank you for your time & interest in the Descent series and for checking out Dungeon Crusade. I wish everyone an awesome New Year, and I'll be talking to you soon....Rodger :) Dungeon Crusade KZfaq channel: kzfaq.info/love/yK0dht51J_ERNNi0KwLeGAvideos?view_as=subscriber

Hello there reidnet and Happy Saturday to you! :) It's really nice to hear from you, and thank you so much for your kind words. I'm very grateful to you! I'm glad this is helping and seeing this system I came up with. I really want to return to Descent as I perfected this whole system. I would like to invite you over to the Dungeon Crusade KZfaq channel. I'm not sure if you know this, but I'm a game designer now, and if you like Descent, you may enjoy Dungeon Crusade. I left you a great introduction and overview video of the Avalon Adventure board game and Dungeon Crusade. Have a look at it at your convenience, and I hope you enjoy it. Again, thank you so much reidnet, and I wish you the best; stay safe and happy gaming. Talk to you soon! . . Rodger :) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r5aVZ7VlnJ7Jl5s.html

That is something you can do pretty much in a variety of games that depend on cards and dice. I do it for example with War of the Ring and Runewars: Miniatures. Funny, isn't it? Well done buddy. Keep enjoying those viewtiful games.

Yo this is awesome, I didn't even realize I was using this strategy for other smaller calculations (mostly targetting) yet it never occurred to me to replace the entire "DM entity" with rolls in other games.

Really appreciate the playthrough. Solo play is increasingly the only way available to me after friends move away, become involved in other life requirements, etc. Hope you take this in the spirit of constructive criticism (and I know I am 9 years late) but the method of handheld camera by yourself made it very hard to keep at this video. Hopefully in the 9 years, you've come up with a better way to create your videos.

I have looked into this game and it's interesting. One thing i noticed though, is all enemies etc allways shown for the heroes when the map starts? That takes some fun out of it since exploring and stumbling upon a horde of enemies is one of the most fun part of dungeon crawlers.

Hi there! And thank you for the comment! I was/am going to do more playthroughs, but for the past 1/2 year, I have been working on finishing my game Dungeon Crusade. facebook.com/dungeoncrusade I have worked on Dungeon Crusade for years now, and it is in the final stages getting ready for kickstarter. I built the game for the solo player in mind, but works for co-op just as well. I invite everyone to tune in for my big reveal of Dungeon Crusade coming very soon. I was determined to create a dungeon crawl game like no other. I wanted to be innovative, unique and give players (and myself) something totally fresh and new. When you see it, I believe you'll agree when you see it. Thank you very much for the comment, and I wish you the very best! Talk to you soon....Rodger :)

Hi there Servietsky ! And I thank you for checking it out! :) I sincerely want to do more videos on Descent and the Dungeons & Dragons Adventure board game systems. I have a REALLY cool way to add in a touch more to the A.I.of monster movements in that game that makes it play much better. My rule for a monsters A.I. in board games is this...The more you can get out of your head on what monsters will do, it results in a far better and more enjoyable experience for your games. We all want that element of surprise, random factor of what the monsters will do to challenge us in our games. I'm very hard at work on my game Dungeon Crusade to get it ready and polished for kickstarter. I encourage you and others and join me at facebook.com/dungeoncrusade for the world premier video coming hopefully in just a few short months. I assure you, if you like Descent, there is PLENTY you'll love with Dungeon Crusade. I wish you the best, and happy gaming! More game play videos are coming...promise! Talk to you soon...Rodger :)

I just played the first encounter to this quest, The Fat Goblin, and the 'Overlord' took the entire harvest! I used Flesh Moulders and three heroes: Leoric/Jain Fairwood/ and Syndrael (chose the first two randomly, but chose Syndrael). And, without using many Overlord cards, the Overlord won easily. I'm playing both hero and Overlord to get a feel for the game (aka no friends)... kidding. Did anyone have a similar experience, or maybe the exact opposite? And I use dice to make decisions for the Overlord when felt needed. I play the game like someone playing both sides of chess.

***** Hey there Algol! Nice hearing from you. :) You lost to a invisible A.I. huh!? LOL. But really my golden rule is "As much as you can get out of your head what the monsters/creatures will do, the more enjoyable games become." Does that make sense? Basically like what you did, use dice for the outcome, or the "brains" for the monsters. When I play that scenario, the group of monsters that go for the harvest, I give them 2 options. I grab a D10, and for each one of the monsters I play it like this...1-8 they go for the crops, 9-10 they will attack the closest hero. Then I even go further with it. Say that 4 is rolled and their going for the crops, I assign the crops numbers, and roll the die. What ever comes up, they go for that crop. I use this method for those D&D adventure board games, and it's a REALLY challenge. I have to do another playthrough of another scenario, because I have really perfected it now. After Dungeon Crusade on kickstarter, I will be doing a lot more. Nice hearing from you, happy gaming! Rodger ;)

rodger deering well, I play both sides to win. The set up of monsters and heroes is by chance, but once the game begins, I do what I think is best for whichever side I'm playing. The only difficult part is the hand dealt to the Overlord. As heroes, I know what's in the hand, but as the game progresses, in campaign mode, the hand starts to become known by players anyway. Really doesn't give an edge to the heroes, but aside from that, this game is doable as a one-player game, so long as you don't favor one side to the other. Played the 2nd half of the quest, and even with all 4 crops (giving 'Splig' +24Hp) he just barely escaped with +3Hp. Came down to the last role. Heroes "fell" and were "revived" numerous times too.

I see what your doing here but is the game made to play sole as an option by default using the app I’m just curious cause I’m on the fence with this game I want to pick it up but only if there is a solo mode implemented in the base game so when there’s no one to game with I can run it alone, good home brew by the way

Hello there Ben and good evening. :) It's nice to hear from you. I hope you're doing great. I first want to say thank you for the interest in this easy little mod for Descent. Sorry for the shaky camera. When I return to this series, I'll be using a tripod. Out of the box, Descent does not have a solo mode. It was originally created to where one person plays as the evil overlord that controls the monsters and can play certain cards that can hinder the heroes. There can be either 1 to 4 players who control the heroes. The app, Road to Legend, turns Descent into a game you can play solo. The nice thing is you can play solo with controlling 2, 3 or 4 heroes if you like. The app is awesome! They did a great job on it. So, if you're looking to play Descent, most certainly get the app. I will be returning later this year to do a more comprehensive video on this mod I created. Lastly, I kindly invite you to check out my game Dungeon Crusade Book I: Genesis of Evil. I'm a diehard soloist board gamer. I built Dungeon Crusade from the ground up for the soloist board gamer, but it can be played co-op just as easily. Dungeon Crusade is an open-world dungeon-crawl board game. An open-world defined by the 3 x 2-foot dungeon boards. You can learn & read more about Dungeon Crusade on the comment pinned here at the top. I left you a link to a demo I recently did on the companies KZfaq channel. I hope you like it. There are many more videos on the game there also. The game is within manufacturing right now and will be shipping out early 2020. It was very nice hearing from you, Ben. Whatever you decide on, I wish you the best and happy gaming. Have a good night, talk to you soon. :) Start of demo for Dungeon Crusade >>> kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pKqCeNupmNSzmIk.html

@@rcreviews9894 Hello there Ben and good afternoon. :) It's nice to hear from you. I hope your day is going good for you. And congrats on the Descent purchase Ben! :) I think you're truly going to enjoy it. Make sure to get the app and watch some videos on it so you're up to speed on how it works. I really think they did a great job on it. Like you, I have always been a diehard soloist boardgamer. With the inception of Groovus Games Unlimited, we'll only be creating games for the soloist board gamer, and of course the co-op crowd. I have many new and innovative game mechanics I've devised & created that are aimed at the soloist board gamer to give them a fun, thematic and challenging time in the games we will be creating. Dungeon Crusade is a massive love letter to fellow gamers who enjoy playing solo and enjoy fantasy adventure/dungeon crawl games. So I hope you enjoy checking it out. It was very nice hearing from you, Ben. Please keep in touch and let me know what you think of running Descent solo with the app. Have a great day, talk to you soon. :)

+rodger deering I was thinking that. Wondered why you said what you did at 1:34. Did you notice that the Overlord wins the majority of the time when playing? I took some time off from the game (because I ordered the Lieutenants; much better than tokens) and played the second encounter to 'The Cardinal's Plight'. In the first encounter, ALL the zombies made it out. The Cardinal died before the Heroes had a chance to rescue him, and trying to give him health at the alter was just a waste of a movement. Do you have the same outcomes as I have? Granted, it's all in the dice, but the odds always seem tipped in favor of the Overlord. And I use both Syndrael (as a knight) and Jain Fairwood (as a Wildlander) like you, but Leoric is my third member (Runemaster). We play slightly different (I play both sides evenly, as if I were in command of both and I'm just watching the game play out). Your way is a good idea to give the enemies independence, but I look at the Overlord as wanting to win as strategically as possible. Rambling now, but try the Overlord part like you play the heroes. Maybe you'll see what I mean.
@algol291
@algol291 9 жыл бұрын
+algol291 oh, the one random act that the Overlord has no control over (for me) is the placement of starting enemy groups. They are placed at random with dice (by me). Figure the Overlord doesn't know when the heroes will appear, so monsters could be anywhere at the start, in their location.

That's why when playing solo this kind of games we must first look at the position of the bot, then the cards and last to review the chances the bot has so we can now throw down some dice
@SirMillz
@SirMillz 5 жыл бұрын
So you are using dice rolls to select random AI choices and targets, and you are randomly drawing monster cards and search tokens? It's about as good as you can get solo without playing the app quests. Not bad. It does take a bit of a imagination.
