The Chippewa River flows approximately 183 miles through west-central and northwestern Wisconsin. What was once a working highway for the lumber industry is now a recreational paddler’s delight. A lively river of riffles and some low-grade rapids, the Chippewa starts wide and passes through large boulders and a scattering of islands in a secluded forest setting giving way to sand bars and beaches framed by dramatic hillsides before merging with the Mississippi River. Join me as I meet up with friends and fellow paddlers as we canoe and camp down the lower section of this beautiful river for four amazing days starting at Holte’s Landing and finishing in the town of Wabasha on the mighty Mississippi.
