This video uses the Capacitance HTML5 online simulation from PhET Interactive Simulations to take a detailed look at how changing the plate area and plate separation affects the capacitance of the capacitor, the amount of stored charge, the potential difference across the plates and the electric field strength. This will be done for when the capacitor remains connected to the battery and when the capacitor is disconnected from the battery. At the end of the video we will look at what happens when the capacitor is discharged through a light bulb.

Really great demonstration! I'm very curious, at the end of video, you showed the capacitor disconnected from the battery with bulb connected to consume energy. If the plates separate farther apart with same size, will the bulb be less bright and power longer?

Since Voltage increases with distancing disconnected plates, the bulb would shine brighter for a shorter period. Using the formula Voltage=Resistance*Current, with the bulb being the Resistance and Current being the flow of Charge per second, you can see that a higher Voltage increases either Resistance or Current. And since the bulb's resistance doesn't change, the Current (flow of charge) must increase.

What effect does lethal solar gamma radiation have on a capacitors dielectric?
@stepbystepscience

a lot, since they are lethal. would probably kill the dielectric.
