Cape Town, a coastal paradise of 4 million on the southern tip of South Africa, is to become the first modern major city in the world to completely run dry. On Feb. 1, the mayor’s office here in Cape Town announced new water restrictions, setting a limit of 13 gallons of water per person per day.

Was at Cape Town last month. The advisory is everywhere - good on the government for getting the word out real well. Reminders were in every hotel lobby, mall restroom and restaurant sink. My airbnb building was enforcing steep fines for the month's heavy users as well.

Can one take buckets of ocean water and use it to flush, or is it too corrosive for Cape Town pipes? On Catalina Island, there's separate plumbing just for that.

I can relate to this as my well failed a month ago and had to do this regimen until it warmed up enough to dig a new one. Every day I thought of all the people in Puerto Rico that still don't have water or power. Motivated me to send another contribution. Seriously, our government needs to help the Puerto Rican people.

As someone whose household has decreased our water usage with over 66% Its possible. And we should probably do it even if there is water.

Years from now water will be a problem anywhere in the world so people must realize the importance of using water and stop wasting it. They will use it wisely when water is running out in their country. Sad reality.

you know, native Americans in Canada have to survive with 2 liters of bottled water a WEEK, including other people that live in the house, which can sometimes go up to 20 people.

Living in a modern villa in the 21st century and carrying around buckets like in medieval times... You have plenty of water in the ocean and lots of sun to power desalination plants. Problem solved.

Brandon Binder it’s actually pretty good in Cape Town. Also, this video is an exaggeration, the taps haven’t run dry, nor is there rationing.

Rnl Valen its for bathing, toilet use, cooking, drinking water aka staying hydrated, laundry, household things. You'd be suprised to see its actually not. One bucket to wash yourself is already 5liter. Flush of a toilet is 3-4liter.
@valenrn8657
@valenrn8657 6 жыл бұрын
Household level "atmospheric water generator" purchase is an insurance for government mismanagement. Example for atmospheric water generator EcoloBlue 30E ($799 USD) can do 30.2833 liter per day. My house already has 4 KwHr solar panels. Planning for Tesla home battery in the future i.e no rush...

Rnl Valen it hasn't rained here in months. We can't use sustainability we are on ecofriendly everything here we have solar panels already. We are globaly very eco too. Please don't say things you don't have facts on.
