In this video I'll be covering the basic mods, also known as the Bolt-ons. These are typically the mods you wanna start off with.
I drive an RSX TYPE S and I currently have these bolt-ons on my car.
**All HP number are averages and should not be considered as EXACT NUMBERS **
Remember all mods effect all cars differently
Hopefully this video helps out !

I wouldn't recommend engine work as a beginner thing. I'd start with suspension. Less punishing if you mess up. No blown engines. Just start with coil overs, bars, maybe interior things like seats, audio etc until you get used to changing things. Careful with exhausts, that's not a bad way at all but the last thing hondas/acuras need is more idiots slapping fart cans on and being that obnoxious car going down the road that can't really get anywhere fast

Nicholas Warner Honestly, it would cost a lot. On top of that, it's going to be hard for you because that car is Fwd. The car will have alot of torque steer and wheel spin. That doesn't mean it's impossible, but at that point I'd just buy a better platform to start from. I own an rsx too but I'm trying to upgrade ASAP. I'd rather have something AWD or RWD.

SKDK this is a real and honest question because I'll be honest, I have a Honda Euro accord...and I want nothing more than to slap a noce exhauste on it to make it scream ( in a good way😂) BUT o don't want to be the fart can guy. what makes and exhaust good vs bad??? and where can you buy good exhaust??

Good beginner video, but might I suggest adding more easy to install bolt-on's then just an intake and an exhaust system, like a performance throttle body and spacers for example. You could also stress more about the importance of choosing the correct performance exhaust for your vehicle, instead of the $50 ebay special that makes most cars, honda's in particular, sound like lawnmowers, plus they are a lot of times too big, therefor eliminating back pressure, and causing your car to lose horsepower. But the problem with adding a more free flowing air system is the fact that the engine's ECU specs will be more and more thrown off the more you modify your car. Eventually, it is recommended to get an aftermarket ECU and have it properly tuned to the new power specs of your engine, so you are able to get the most out of your modifications. By the way, love the RSX, the 4 cylinder K20 family is probably by far my favorite group of Honda engines. Another suggestion is hitting more about torque secs. Torque is probably as, if not more important then horsepower due to the fact it measures real engine power output in the acceleration sense, which is what most people look for. Horsepower is how fast you can hit a wall, torque is how far you can take the wall with you.

You're wrong about the exhaust being only for sound. the exhaust on some if not most cars are very restrictive. take my car it had three chambers from the cat back, a sport exhaust has only 1 which is alot better. also some cars have 300 or even 400 cell catalytic converters or cats for short. a nice upgrade instead of removing the cat (which is illegal in most places) is to get a 100 cell cat which fully legal in most places, headers also knows as extractors are not all that restrictive as the rest of the system. another thing to remember is that the car companies spend alot of money on these areas to make them as effective as they can. the biggest thing holding them back is the emission importance. You allways see the companies referencing how kind the car is to the earth for better sales. as for the intake more times than not for bolt on mods its been proven that the standered intake is capable of handling an extra 25 hp and wont restrict it as much as people make it out to be. but no matter what you read or who you talk to the most important thing is that you do your research.
@TrustMacintosh
@TrustMacintosh 10 жыл бұрын
I clearly stated that the exhaust does produce power but might not be noticeable. I had an exhaust on my RSX and i couldn't tell the difference. But then again every car is different etc. I did how ever notice the difference with DC headers+ exhaust.
@taro1586
@taro1586 10 жыл бұрын
This video is all wrong. 1: cold air intake don't make anymore power 2: Exhaust system is not just for sound. Exhaust systems can give you a 25 more hp than stock
@TrustMacintosh
@TrustMacintosh 10 жыл бұрын
Taro Castillo I''ve dynoed my own car. Exhaust gives 2-4WHP at best. It doesn't clear up the back pressure. Thats where the headers comes into play. No exhaust will ever give you 25 HP. The header yes but not the exhaust by it's self.

If your not looking to spend allot this is a good start. Intake, exhaust (header with catback). If you wanna take it a little further. Put some cams in it, port the heads, and get a bigger throttle body. Have it dyno tuned and call it a day. That would make for a nice power gain for a reasonable amount of money.

All of these you need a tune for you to get the most out of the mod. Not all headers have a cat to worry about and the exhaust is not just for sound you can get better throttle response with an exhaust and they are typically lighter than stock so weight reduction is a plus too. Diameter of your headers and materials used for exhaust will affect tone but 2 or 2.5 inch exhaust compared to a 3 inch exhaust hp will be at most in the low single digits in difference at most!
@TheMansGarage
@TheMansGarage 8 жыл бұрын
headers are an improvement over a stock manifold because they are designed to alow the exhaust gasses from each cylinder to exit at the same time. manifolds do other alow that. also you can add headers without removing the cat. you can also get hi flow cats.

you forgot the real advantage of equal length headers is the fact that because they are equal lengths the exhaust is not fighting for space that is already occupied, thus not creating more backpressure that you were talking about. and freeing up horsepower that (truthfully) was already there but merely restricted

I love this video you did a good job on explanation I got a cat back exhaust and you're right I don't feel any increase in horsepower I actually thought my car was slow but when you mentioned the weather part I was surprised I noticed when I wake up early in the morning at 2:30am and I get into my car as I'm driving my car feels a lot faster but during the day as the sun is out my car feels like it has a slight power loss after watching this video I finally know why my engine some times feels slower then normal very good information I'm ganna hit subcibe I'm getting Megan header with a downpipe and a AEM Cold Air Intake this month I'm more about sound I'm not doing too many mods cause this car is my daily driver and fuel economy won't be so great with a heavily build motor as a daily driver

People should first understand that the intake/exhaust upgrades only "make power" if the initial setup was severely limiting that power, in most stock cars that stuff is just right for the engine you have and they do nothing extra. And the only way to actually know is to test things on a dyno side by side as most people mistake noise for power.

u have to remember too, even if you add all of these mods to your car you should be getting it tuned on a rolling road or a dyno because your ECU will end up compensating for the changes made and bring it back to your stock HP anyway. I have seen cars compensate so much that HP goes under stock not by insane amounts but at most up to 15hp. so just remember Tuning the ECU is important too

I have a question regarding the short ram intake vs cold air intake if for example you like in a city that mostly snows and gets cold weather is it better for the engine to take in cold air from the outside or use its own heated air. Is it better for the engine to use slightly heated air during the winter or does it make no difference?

Get a cold air intake, since it increases fuel economy and power it doesn't void your warranty. Plus it's quick and easy

Look at the K&N typhoon, it's a short ram with a heat shield, it's what I have on my FRS. The heat shield can only do so much, so I got a vented hood right above the cone, breaths like a champ.

would it be worth it to go with a decent exhaust and intake, while going over the headers? Around where i live, cops literally check shit on every car and arent hesitant to give citations for illegal mods so..

+Atlacatl Put the stock exhaust back on, live in an area that doesn't require emissions testing, or sometimes putting spacers on the O2 sensors can trick the ECU into thinking everything's fine.

check your intake locations to see whether you can relocate it to a place with more air flow. many cars after 2000 don't benefit from a cold air intake. if you're installing one, remember to put up your heat shields

TrayIcon Question, I have a recently installed a Airaid Cold air intake in a 09 focus. Now the intake itself in the engine bay so there is no long tube going down lower to the ground, BUT It came with a heat shield and rubber lining. So is it technically a sort ram or cold air intake???

***** dunno. i know pretty little about the intakes themselves. only the thermophysics behind them
