Great content Sandro as usual. However, there is a dichotomy between these battery powered machines and their traditional 'plug into the wall' counterparts. I've listened to and enjoyed your comments but nothing I've seen will draw me away from my (corded) Rupes Mille. Wherever these cordless machines trip up . . . the Mille catches them. Seamless power and torque. Great ergo with very tolerable db's. It's kinda like electric cars. Many have tested them but the tide is turning back to the traditional. Hope that makes sense. Your a great icon of this industry Sandro and I admire you so much for raising the bar in terms of the knowledge of it and getting valuable information out to all of its participants. Cheers Brett

Awesome video! I have the Flex XFE15 and overall I do like it and can get quality work done with it. The weight is fatiguing, however I do like that it’s built like a tank. My biggest gripe on the Flex is the crappy speed dial that has no detents and spins too freely. I’m constantly bumping the speed up inadvertently, and that is super annoying. However, I do like the XFE, and I would love to get the Flex PE150 cordless rotary brother to this machine.

I have 4 shinemate cordless units. (Eb210, eb 351 15mm,21mm and eb350 12mm) all are solid machines. This was a great initial offering by Rupes, but that battery sag is a problem. Im really surpised they are sending that out the door like that as an industry leader in polishing machines, and at that price too😮! Im good with my shinemate decision. This was a long overdue video, and im glad you are the one who finally did it Sandro!! Real talk though, how about a 3in cordless video? We know the eb210 walks with that one though😅I d be interested to hear and see your take on it though. Awesome job as always man!!!

I'm very happy with my 15mm and 21mm Rupes machines, no issues at all and I have quickly gotten used to the battery positioning. I'll admit it isn't ideal, but the lightweight, balance and ergonomics of the machine make it possible to maneuver it so that it is not an issue on the majority of cars. They are a vast improvement over my previous Milwaukee cordless machines. The trigger is also a non-issue for me. I've never really throttled the trigger to spread polish (I think it is a waste of time) so I always go straight to the trigger lock anyways. Apparently it was a late addition after SEMA because people who weren't used to the machine were constantly hitting the trigger while swapping batteries. After the criticism they got for the same issue with the HLR75, I can see why they made the change.

I agree, I sold my Milwaukees for these. These are so erconomic that the battery placement is no big deal although not ideal. I do think that the 15 could use more power, it is less powerful than Milwaukee 15, probably onbar with Shinemate, i should mention that i sanded the shroud from both of my HLR's. The things i dont like with these HLR's is just like Sandro said, there is just too much computer stuff adjusting and making decisions for you. When you have 2/4 of battery, it wont let you use speed 5-6, and only goes like up to 4.5. I wonder why this is since HLR75 is 100% right until the batter is dead. Now i have to switch batter when its at 50-60% because i cant use all the power. Also if i add 5" bp to 21, it vibrates bit more, just like MK3. But its not that bad at all, but the machine things it is. Beaucse if you use speed 6 with 5" bp, the machine sometimes shuts off, i guess it thinks thaat there is too much vibration. What the hell Rupes? You still didnt make 21 compatible with 5" like Shinemate and Milwaukee did. Im starting to think if i should get 12, 15 , 21 and a rotary Shinemate and sell these.

I’ve put a washer mod (m8 zinc plated) in the HLR15. It definitely gets rid of any power concerns (didn’t really have any tbh but now it for sure doesn’t stall) The battery placement is a matter of adjusting technique. That doesn’t mean I’m a fan of it, as my cordless rotary is from flex.

An excellent review of 3 very successful brands. Like you, I say Rupes will address the trigger, battery, and power issues in the Mark 2 version. I'm glad to see you've still got the Lite Ace. It may be retired from mobile detailing duties, but I bet its still running strong. Cheers Sandro, and have a great weekend my friend.

What battery issues? There's no trigger issue, it's just a style preference. No single polisher will suit all styles. You'll be waiting several years for a 2nd gen. Something tells me that if the safety button is that cumbersome, it can be permanently disengaged from inside, as most professional detailers are inclined to mod their machines anyway.

Look at how much flack they got with the HLR75 trigger being too easy to unintentionally turn on. This was a late change that was implemented after the demo at SEMA where people were constantly hitting the trigger while swapping out batteries. I never spread polish with the trigger (its a waste of time), so I go always go straight to the trigger lock...so this is a moot point for me.

I have tested Shinemate eb351 15, Milwaukee 15 and 21, Flex 15 and Rupes 15 and 21. I used to own Shinemate, sold it for and bought Milwaukees and now i bought Rupes's. Rupes 15 is super smooth but its bit weaker than Milwaukee, 21 Rupes however is atleast as strong as 21 milwaukee and it is my favourite of all of them. I get your complaint about the battery angle, but its not really that big of a problem. In my opinion Flex is super weak and Rupes and Shinemate are about equal and Milwaukee is noticeably stronger for 15 machines that is. Havent tested 21 Shinemate, but 21 Rupes is totally different than 15. 15 i can bog down the oscilation but 21 no way and it rotates also so amazingly well. From somewhere i read that Rupes had bit vibration problems with 15 so i guess they have tuned down the power to make it smoother? Also what i dont like with the Rupes is that when you have you are on the lower end of the batter life, it wont let you use speed 6. Like you said, little bit too much computer controls on Rupes. I wonder if somebody someday will be able to pass some of those and get more power from the 15. Also i dont like that Rupes still didnt make 5" plate offically for the 21 like Milwaukee did. HLR21 with 5" is good to use, but it vibrates bit more than with the 6". Also i have noticed that if you use 5" bp and speed 6, it sometimes randomly cuts the power off, even if i dont use much pressure, im guessing that the computer thinks it vibrates too much and shuts down. i really dont like that kind stuff and they should be optional. And yes i also hate those rubber nibbles. I have dry skin and when you polish 15 hours in a day, it kills my arms. I put some masking tape on it, but will have to figure something more permanent solution. Maybe sand them down or something. I absolutely agree with the listening about customers. For years we have asked 21 that is smooth with 5" and they just dont deliver it. Its a shame that they are capable of making the best machines, but are so freaking stubborn and wont listen customer feedback. Italians... So lets hope that somebody learns how to mod those machines to their full potential.

I sold my mk3 to buy the Rupes and also got it with 15% off, I’m just a weekend warrior so this won’t see a lot of use, I bought it because it’s pretty and after experiencing cordless with my PXE wanted this for my larger machine, had been considering the Shinemate, Used it recently to re polish and coat my car and was quite happy with it, yes the trigger was a pain occasionally, was happy dealing with the battery rather than a cord. Biggest gripe so far is the lack of a dedicated storage box like the Flex, for the money it should have come in something like this. Another concern was seeing Matt’s from OG pack up on him, no idea what the issue was but hope there’s no common issue.

Great video and review Sandro! Hope you’re doing well! I have used my ShineMate machines for years and have really enjoyed them. My cordless ShineMate 21mm & 15mm machines are a little worse for wear and it’s coming up on time to replace them I’m sure. I used a friends new Rupes HLR15 recently and although I loved the finish, feel, and ergonomics of it - I felt it was *incredibly* underpowered. Speed 5-6 with a medium to softer firmness foam pad on a flat panel and it was a struggle to keep pad rotation. I wonder if the HLR21 has a more powerful motor, would you know the answer to that? Trying to decide on replacing the ShineMates with themselves again, or going for an HLR21 - but if it’s as weak as the 15, I’d have to pass. Thanks Sandro!

Typically, if you’re using good quality polishes/ compounds and pads you shouldn’t need to add moisture or dampness - that would be a short coming of the products you’re using. My advice is don’t add extra variables to your paint corrections process, keep it simple as more step and additives you pile on, the more chance you have of issues.

I know they usually call the XFE the FINISHER, leaning that machine away from cutting as much. I'm not saying that the XFE cant cut but the XCE is the cordless brother to the corded 3401 BEAST. Long story short the Flex machines are fantastic along with the Rupes. I just happen to lean towards Flex. I also have the PXE 80 (Flex's Mini polisher) and I highly recommend it. Hey sandro got a question for you. Someone used my car and took it to an automatic car wash and did touchless, one of the lines that had acid for the wheels burst and spayed all over my car. Funnily enough it revived my protection on the paint but left long etching lines on my windshield, i used steel wool 0000 on it and after lots of elbow grease it slowly came off but i need to do the whole windshield. My question is, should i polish it out using the steelwool 0000, polishing pads, use diluted acid to remove it, or replace my windshield?

That’s really unfortunate! I think a wool or microfibre pad with a heavy cutting compound would be my process for a significant etching on glass, but if you feel all your effort aren’t working or are just too laborious, I think the car wash should replace the glass.

Most of us using a large cordless polisher will have down time and use other smaller polishers as well, so typically we don’t tend to run out of battery life, or we’ll buy an extra battery or two. If you feel you’re going to polish with no down time and with just one machine - then yes, maybe the corded version will be better or you’ll need to invest in an additional charger and batteries.

Shinemates' wireless range is just too expensive for Chinese polishers. I only have to spend $70 more for a German-built polisher.

Still here in Poland it's like over 3 times cheaper than the Rupes HLR... i know i know, Rupes = quality, but still man, sooo much premium added for what? For income. That's it. In the states these machines are WAY cheaper and still Amercians complain about the price, what am i to say ? xD

"They are" contracts to they're. Yes, they all do seem to be very expensive. I think a lot of polishing is more about the person holding the polisher.

I have that same Flex and it absolutely is under powered. Super smooth and quiet but stalls to easy. Great for finishing flater panels but pretty much worthless for correcting. I have many Flex polishers that I love but a little disappointed in the power of this one. Great video!

Flex > any other garbage. Everyone thinks the Flex is weak because it’s the smoothest. i’ve owned both the rupes and flex and the flex is by far the best option.

i owned the flex XFE and had zero issues. bought the rupes for the hype and the machine is total garbage. too many people don’t know how to polish and don’t realize the backing plate needs to be able to spin freely with each oscillation. and the rupes seems to have a really stiff backing plate which prevent spin. the oscillation without the spin just gives you holograms. i sold it the same day and took the 150 dollar loss. but i would never get something rupes again. they spent too much time and did so shitty
