In relation to the dipstick location, why not get a piece of alloy pipe welded into the rear bowl sump to suit the diameter and height of the dipstick .

Ahh it's always the smallest detail that bites the hardest. A good save none the less. 8s for Lightening seems a no brainer. 10s for the taxi too!

Hey Scottie, a few years back i used to drive a Iveco 6 wheeler tandem that i drove for a year or so without a dip stick so it never got checked and it lived that whole time no probs. Point being i did a check every morning, just not with a stick. It had an electronic dip stick from the factory, push a button while cold and you got a reading. Come to think of it, a few other Euros have a similar system. Saved winding up the cab and setting back down which was a two man job to line up the gearstick. Electronic for the win!!!!

There is a work around. On steel sump engines I've welded a short tube onto the side of the pan at an 45 * or so angle then used a compression union to complete the tube. The end of the tube should remain an inch or so above the full mark of the dipstick to prevent inaccurate readings. I you need the tube to be under the level of the oil ( say in order to get past a windage tray or to keep the stick from vibrating ) be sure to drill a 1/8" hole in the tube well above the full oil level. A work around for an aluminum pan: Working on the side of the pan, install a - 4 or -6 bulkhead fitting near the bottom of the pan, install a 90* fitting facing upwards. Near the top of the pan install another same sized bulkhead fitting and a T fitting with one leg facing upwards. Connect the top of the lower 90 to the bottom of the T. Extend the top of the T to a convenient spot , install the dip stick. The reason we are using a high / low tap off point that rather then is so oil does not become trapped leading to an inaccurate reading. What we are making is effectively an oil level sight glass that has been top tapped for a stick.

Should just put a bung in the side of the sump at the height where the correct oil level is, when you fill it undo it and when it starts coming out, stop. Like a diff

I think it kind of works out better bc the mazda is a higher spec car and gets the really nice engine, the taxi is a back yard style project so it gets the backyard engine

Yeah, I was gonna ask that myself but thought if it were possible he'd do that instead of all that extra work. So I'm curious as well. I'd like to know.

There is a very simple solution to the dipstick not being in the right place. Drill a hole in the sump and fit one. If you have the sump off already welding a boss for the dipstick is nota problem. All you need do is pick a convenient spot to weld a boss and fit a dipstick tube. You could even thread the boss so you could use flexible tubing.

The amount if time required to do it properly, so it doesn't leak is probably longer than it is to swap the engine.

Check out the artec manifolds cast stainless with 50 or 60mm gate provision nice and compact to take the g series turbos

Should have used the BIG Shifter for taking the shrink wrap off , would have magically been alright then !! As long as the Taxi is racing again I'm not fussed what goes in it , heck , even an AU SOHC motor would do !

Well that didn't go to plan but then it is CARNAGE after all. I was really looking forward to seeing turbo taxi get that engine but I have to say I'm even more excited to see it go into the MX5, dude that's gonna be scary af going 8 seconds, you might need to take some extra undies, just in case 🤣🤣 oh and is turbo taxi still gonna be running on LPG?

My left of field sort of solution would be to drill a tap the sump and put a oil oil level bung in it like a gearbox or diff. You even have a hoist so probably less of a problem to deal with than than most people. Or the other way would be to Frankenstein some sort of custom dip stick setup into the side of the fg sump.

Love the channel 😊 keep up the excellent content, especially Barra stuff 😏👌🏻but I was just rewatching this vid and just noticed you have a B series inlet cam and a FG exhaust cam.... 🤔 Surely that would be some kinda of restriction as FG cams give way better low down torque and having one of each would cause some sort issue... 🤔 Any way just thought I'd mention it 😎🤙🏻

6 boost pro mod manifold is huge compared to their usual hi mount manifold thats most likely higher then the frame rails.. i make 560rwkw in my fg on 20psi with one on a much smaller turbo

But what about the ring gaps? The rings put in the barra at Dandy were gapped for LPG, and the ones out of the MX5 aren't gapped for LPG. Will this become an issue, especially in Turbo Taxi running hotter burning LPG and smaller gaps? Will the larger gaps in the Dandy MX5 motor be robbed off a little power through blow by?

Early BA blocks are weaker on the rear cylinder. BF 2 blocks that use the FG oil filter ford strengthened the blocks.

DONT USE THE TENSIONER, ALWAYS USE AN OEM TENSIONER. I'm running oem tensioner on my atomic heavy duty chain due to 4 different heavy duty tensioners failing and causing the chain to slip.

@@STREETMACHINETV yeah I even made sure it was super tight, if you do some research you'll find it's super common... Some fail instantly some fail later on, I'm using my oem that has done 150,000kms no issues, have a bf 998kw atomic rebuild kit with 14.3mm studs, I was getting issues running stock power, once slipped idling once first starting up after rebuild, and thrice around 4-5000rpm, I use a flathead screwdriver with a really long handle to tighten them. The oem runs mint, running 250hp wet nos and ready for a vortech v3 hb or v7, Just sold a brand new v-15 as I never see myself needing 1900hp peak, gearbox is only adequate for 400kw... Running out of money.... kids....

Scotty run a 10 on lpg then go E85 , anyone can run a 9.00 with a Barra on E85 , be different run a 10 then shoot for 9.00 on LPG then go E85 .

Thanks for reaching out, it's a fairly tight situation with the Mazda chassis rail, we had to clearance a bit to even fit the GTX3584R. We're probably going to make something custom

That’s fair, it is a high mount position the manifold I was referring to. By stock position we mean relative to where the turbo sits front to back in comparison to the standard low mount. So same position but high mount for the bigger turbo. That promod style Zane has sits the turbo forward and generally requires a custom mount made to slim the space up as the standard ba/bf/fg is quite bulky mount wise and seeing as the where the rails are in the Mazda it is what it is. Just wanted to see if I could help out in some way. Whatever you do will be great watching and still be super fast. Love the channel Scotty 💪🏻

Why go through all the trouble. Drill a hole in the side of the pan down low on the side install a 90 degree an barb fitting pointing up and put a clear pvc hose on it caped at the top. Now you have a sight level . Quicker easier and better as you can see the level in the hose. Just measure the oil you put in at first and mark the tube.

I thinking surely you could make a dip stick to go directly off the sump. Its a straight six plenty of room in the engine bay. Bloody easier than a complete engine swap out.

The other issue using ba/ bf blocks in fg is the block has no relief to allow the installation of the flex to converter bolts through the starter hole

@@wobblysauce I was thinking straight off the sump with a new Tube and Dip stick and block the current dip stick hole. $20 dollars off ebay.

You don't need a dip stick Fill it , send it , repeat
