First of all my heart goes out to everyone that suffers from this, I strongly suspect my boyfriend has this going on and it is truly devastating to watch. I wanna thank you so very much for taking the time to make and share this video. Much love

You are very welcome. Any type of epilepsy is so hard for people to experience and their loved ones to see them go through it. I hope they can confirm if your boyfriend is and help put together a care plan for him. I wish you both well.

I just wanted to update everyone so I don't send false information. After a long run with doctors, seizures that looked different and extreme stomach pain, they discovered my son has PNES- psychogenic non-epileptic seizures. It is often misdiagnosed as Epilepsy. The seizure meds they put him on made him worse. All of his symptoms aligned with "abdominal epilepsy" but it turns out the seizures were non-epileptic. It's fairly new, doctors are still learning about it but I wanted to mention here in case anyone is going through the hell I went through, and my poor son went through. Therapy will help and he is already getting much better. He had a brain injury so this could be the culprit along with anxiety he is not able to handle emotionally and disassociates and would "seize" convulsing and such. Good luck everyone wishing you all good health.

I'm so happy to hear that your son is doing better. Anticonvulsant medication is very difficult to be on. I am happy that a proper diagnosis has been made and that therapy is helping him to get better. Trying to get a correct diagnosis for epilepsy is painful and I am sorry you and your son have been through so much. Here is the link to learn more about PNES. They used to be called pseudoseizures, so that is the title on the presentation. I just wanted to let you know so you know I am giving you the correct link: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rL-FatGZ0Kmde4U.htmlsi=z7XllkGcL9uJBrIN If you have any questions, please let me know, I'm here to help.

I suspect it’s just as common in adults. Because an abdominal epilepsy patient is more likely to be labeled with a psychiatric disorder, it’s just not worth the medical harassment to get a diagnosis.

I agree about the frustrations of dealing with medical professionals, but I would not discourage others from seeking help. We all deserve to be happy and have a good quality of life. I have been battling epilepsy now for 43 years so I can totally relate with you when it comes to the frustrations of our healthcare system.

I just discovered I most likely have this. I've been to the hospital for 3 seizures and have had at least 5. Since I was 4 I can remember this strange aura that felt similar to nostalgia but in a pit at the bottom of my stomach. Every major seizure I've had involved the worst stomach pain imaginable, throwing up, the worst migraine I've ever had then loss of consciousness and a seizure. Im 18 years old just started having full on tonic clonic seizures 4 months ago after having stomach issues my entire life. I've been diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome but now suspect I have abdominal epilepsy, no description of any other type of seizure has come close to what I went through except abdominal epilepsy, I experienced every symptom.

I'm so sorry you are going through all of this. I hope they can soon confirm a diagnosis soon. I had irritable bowel syndrome for some time. I found reducing processed foods and having enough fiber helped. Next time when you see your physician, ask them about what dietary options you can have to help alleviate the symptoms. Doctors have a habit of just prescribing medication before addressing lifestyle changes. I hope things get better for you soon.

Go to emergency! They didn't do an EEG?? Sounds very similar to my son. Try to get a sleep deprived EEG ordered and referred to a neurologist. Next time you have a seizure go right to the hospital! Good luck take care.

Abdominal epilepsy can be difficult to diagnose. It is important to keep a journal and document any seizures, how long they lasted, and any symptoms or behaviors you displayed. All of this information can help your doctor in deciding what treatment is best for you.

I just figured out my son has this. He has been suffering with stomach pain for 4 years now, debilitating, and occurring like flare ups. He had meningitis as a baby and had severe brain damage but is ok today cognitively...he recovered miraculously. Now he's 14. Today he had a flare up and starting swallowing hard, like he couldn't and talking gibberish not making sense. I asked him if he was ok and he answered "chicken"? He was out of it. Now I believe he was having a seizure. He then fell asleep and said he felt strange during that time and his brain wasn't working. Thinking back I have seen this a few times in middle of night thought he was sleep walking and talking and it goes away minutes later so I assumed he was ok. Now I think he has Abdominal Epilepsy after much research- all his symptoms match. I can't wait to get to my doctor and get on the ball to see if he does have it and end his pain. Pray for me! :) Any advice would be appreciated! Btw, my grandfather was epileptic.

I'm sorry your son is going through all of this. Make sure when you see the doctor, you bring all the information with you and document everything. I suggest keeping a journal of any symptoms or signs of seizure activity that is taking place. I am praying for you that things go well and they find out what is going on with your son. I have had epilepsy now for 43 years and as challenging as it can be, you can still work to have a good quality of life. Please be proactive and ask questions. If you need any information, please let me know.

@@DefeatingEpilepsyFoundation He had a major seizure and we ended up at a children's hospital by ambulance. One doctor agreed with me and the abdominal epilepsy diagnosis, said he thought I was right, but the neuro doctors did not believe in abdominal epilepsy even though they had never seen the type of seizure action in seizures before. Anyhow, diagnosed with Epilepsy and has started a medication so I pray it gets rid of the seizures and the burning debilitating stomach pains he gets. What a ride!!!!

@@user-ew5pc8gf4k I hope things are getting better. Yes epilepsy is so stressful and because there are so many different types of epilepsy and seizures, there are some doctors who may have never seen a specific type of seizure. I hope things are going in the right direction and your son is not in pain anymore.

Abdominal pain mostly happen with grandmal seizures i heard you mention that it can sometimes lead to acid reflux I have that a lot the only thing that calms me down after having a seizure with abdominal pain is when I drink a cup of tea and then I get tired and go to sleep sometimes I wake up not remembering anything 😢😢😢
@DefeatingEpilepsyFoundation
@DefeatingEpilepsyFoundation Жыл бұрын
I'm sorry that you go through all of that. It's good that you are finding ways to calm yourself after a seizure. Abdominal epilepsy can be very difficult to diagnosis. Keeping a journal of your symptoms and sharing it with the doctor can be helpful. It lets the doctor know what is taking place and what treatment plan to follow.

It was actually different with my son, and with typical seizures. For my son the stomach pain comes first, then the seizure. Doctors say this debilitating burning pain is the "aura" for the seizure. It is crippling though and no tea in the world would help it. Curled up in a ball screeching pain.

Can this occur in adults with temporal lobe epilepsy & other forms? Experiencing extreme abdominal pain
@DefeatingEpilepsyFoundation
@DefeatingEpilepsyFoundation 2 жыл бұрын
Yes it can. Abdominal epilepsy is a form of temporal lobe epilepsy. It is often misdiagnosed. I found an article I found through the National Institute of Health about abdominal epilepsy in adults. Here is the link: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5121772/. You can copy and paste it into your browser to read. Yes they are. Even though abdominal epilepsy is diagnosed more often in children, there are cases of adult abdominal epilepsy in which they experience similar side effects.

@Vucell Production hi, I don't know for sure if this works for everyone, but it was suggested to us and has worked beautifully, so much so that within the last year my boyfriend was able to stop the episodes by rubbing some peppermint oil on his wrist and smelling at it, right at the onset of a coming episode. I'm no doctor, I'm only sharing what has helped some individuals I am familiar with. I'm sorry you're having this going on, my heart goes out to you and I wish you well ❤
