Mark, the only thing I'd keep is the instrument cluster, it's so CB750, Matt is "Crazy"!

This build is going to be really fun to watch.... ok, spoked wheels for sure, and the stock instrument cluster is cool, but I can see what Matt is talking about, a single round analog speedo would look good.
@TheSpectre223
@TheSpectre223 6 жыл бұрын
Look forward to seeing where this project goes. Regarding the cluster, a single, smaller dial would look great, preferably with a digital speedo set inside an analogue rev-counter. Alternatively you guys could compromise and repurpose the stock dials with a new bracket and neater idiot lights.

I haven't read all the comments, but the instrument setup looks like my 1976 CB 360 :) also the back brake adjustment is a combination of the back brake pedal and the adjust screw lever on the back brake drum (connection to the brake pedal)

Yes keep the instrument cluster, very 70's, and on the Thursdays you don't have work talk to us about your ideas and what ideas others may have for the build. Great new add with Matt will be fun with more input.

Hi Guys!!!! I reckon that if you really want to get it like a scrambler you are going to have to do something about the suspension, I am sure it will be fine for plain old dirt roads but not sure whether the stock stuff will handle the rougher stuff? I loved the virago build so I am really looking forward to this one!!!!!

I have a red 2005 CB250 Honda in my shed. We bought it so my lady could get her learners licence - great little bike. My old lady now has her full licence and rides a Yamaha V Star 650 cruiser. We will keep the CB250 so our daughter can get her learners as well... We paid $1500 for ours. Cheers

Hey Fellas, I think for the instrument cluster, an idea, try putting a frame around it, use just scrap metal and fab-up a cage/frame thing, like a jail cell door from the bush rangers days old west kind of thing. In my head it looks like crash bars but much smaller around the outside both gauges.

No cluster, clean simple lines, white tank, tan leather seat and grips, maybe some Black and Tan pinstripes to tie the frame/motor and seat to the tank.
@mickschreiber1995
@mickschreiber1995 6 жыл бұрын
Hi guys, good luck with the rebuild. When you remove the plastics you will have holes where the plastics were attached. This will give you mounting points. So, rather than modifying the frame use these points to build a shroud which will take the mounting points for the new seat and also cover the portion of the tank you don't like. The instrument cluster can be replaced with a simple cluster setup from something off a WR450 or DRZ400. This will give you room to mount a GPS or phone as part of the new instrument setup.

What size rims are they? I will have a look at work and see if there are any used tyres in the rack that will get you through a roadworthy. Might be able to find you a couple other goodies to.

Nice vid guys 😁 also check for movement in rear swing arm bushes and front steering head stem bearings. Be careful modifications after rwc it might upset any future insurance cover policies and also if a knowledgeable cop pulls you up he can slap a canary on it if theres no engineering certified plates if the subby has been cut and welded. Good luck guys an i like the cluster set looks perfect for a old style cafe racer. Take care Mark

Really looking forward to this build guys. I agree the exhaust needs to be shifted but if you use a muffler the cones might still work once relocated. Those forks look really weak for a scrambler. You may have to swapthem and the triple clamps out. I think the instrument pannels is find. But either way it's your bike guys enjoy the time building it and then the time riding it.

iRidetas really wanted a cb250rs. I had the cb125rs (still got it) it's nothing special though just a cg125 with a ohc really. Went ok though for a 125cc 4 stroke. I liked the way the 250 was almost the power of the twin and a fair bit lighter. I have had 2 xr250's and a xl250 so got a taste of the engine.

Keep the instruments they are nice! , and if you are going knobby tires, get rid of the chain guard and go with a black rear sprocket maybe 3 or 5 Tooth bigger for a nicer off-road torque and visuals. Virago was a amazing series, good luck with the new CB project. But Exhausts I agree they have to go away if cost allows it.

Hi, As the CB250 is a road bike and you intend to take it off-road, should you consider a fork brace as the tubes are narrow and fit fork bellows to keep the dirt away from the seals. Not trying to spend your money really.

As mentioned steering bearing check for notchness , you have done these before on the DR so no biggie.Looks a good clean Bike and a very low price considering its condition.If you removing the plastics you might want to look at different style tail/brake light and indicators. and for the speedo and idiot lights you could look at a vapor unit by Trail Tech a very small unit with everything built in.

ENTERTAIN ME !! I Tottaly agree those fork do not look up to scrambler work. So thin I would be worried they will bend. Yes I would look at the forks and tripples from a bike wrecker a XR 250 or 400. Or even a crf230. It will also Hank a lot of stress or the arms and hand on corrugated roads, that lead to arm pump and rider fatigue

That 21" front spoked wheel would most likely hit the engine/exhaust
@hadrianhaine5204
@hadrianhaine5204 6 жыл бұрын
Chris Hart hence why we are saying to swapout the forks and triples. Sadly this week Mark has said that swapping forks for some 2nd dirt bike forks and tripples is above too costly and above his mechanical abilities and back yard tools... Even though he is doing Max's head bearings so it really only possibly too expensive
@jonnoMoto
@jonnoMoto 6 жыл бұрын
there should be a brake lining limit mark on the outside of the drum. wheel bearings and fork oil leaks are another things to check are you sure the tyre choices are limited because of the alloys or because of rim size? I just checked, they have 18" wheels front and back. That shouldn't be a problem although finding a narrow 18" could be a bit tricky. durotire.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/DURO_PowerSports_web_Jan18.pdf 3.0" and 4.1" 18" hf333 tyres I think that cluster, without that middle section would be ok. Pretty gopping with it. I can see you wanting to put harder springs on the bike. I can see it being pretty overwhelmed offroad. Although that could be done as and when. Get it running not get it right!

This should be a fun build, I think your challenges are going to be a little different from the last build. On one hand this bike is in better shape at the start so that will be a lot less work to clean up etc. But the challenges on this bike I think are going to be in the re styling of the bike and getting it to look right. I don't know, I'm looking forward to seeing the progress.

Why would "Alloy" or "spoke" rims make a difference for tire availability?.....It's the size of the wheel that's the problem not the type of wheel.
@chrisredfield3240

MrKdr500 i think there looking for spoked wheels 18 front 18 rear. Like most of the older cb's. I think this has 19 front 16 rear very limited tyre choices. Think duel sport choices for the 19. Cruiser tyres for the 16. Not good sizes

@@BikerBits I understand, but thank you for the response. I know they are out there. The U.S. version really suffers with having only drums front and rear, fine for one quick stop. But they fade pretty quickly at highway speeds, the disk front on the mag rims is a big boost in stopping power. Just thought i would mention i paid $125.00 for the bike. So i can spend a bit on the bike and not feel too bad about it. I will also try UK postings as well, it was popular over there as too. Good luck to you. Hope you guys get some rain really soon those fires are nasty business.
