Chad Channing on Nirvana: Meeting Kurt Cobain & Krist Novoselic, Recording Bleach, Nevermind, Incesticide, Funny Tour Stories, Kurt's Death & More. Nirvana is one of the most successful bands in the history of rock n' roll and popular music. Nirvana released three studio albums: Bleach (Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, Chad Channing, Jack Endino), Nevermind (Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, Dave Grohl, Butch Vig) & In Utero (Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, Dave Grohl, Steve Albini, Scott Litt), as well several live albums such as MTV Unplugged, From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah, Live at Reading, and a compilation album, Incesticide. His drumming on Bleach is awesome, imo. For a lot of people, that's their favorite Nirvana album.

I like when Dave Grohl is interviewed and asked about a certain Nirvana song that he almost always mentions Chad and gives Chad credit where it’s due. Very respectful thing to do.

Huuuge respect to Chad for not dealing with the Nirvana story with regret and drama! He's very respectful and humble. It made him probably my favourite Nirvana "supporting actor" haha. I quit a band a couple of years before the singer went on national TV in my country with another guitarist. I don't feel any regret, because my decision was firm and I was comfortable with it. Thanks for the long interview.

Am I the only one that thinks Chad has sort of a passing resemblance to Grant Hart? Seems like such a good natured guy. Personally, I think they did their best work with him. Keep in mind, the majority of Nevermind was written with Chad in the band. Dave basically recorded his version of Chad’s parts. And while I love In Utero for so many other reasons, it’s a really dark and confusing record. Maybe not even fully realized. Definitely not what I’d consider to be classic Nirvana. That would be the Chad years, for sure.

There has to be a good argument that Chad's drumming influenced Dave's drumming, in Nirvana at least. Dave's parts sound like a natural progression of what Chad was playing.

In March 1992 while watching Much Music (Canada's MTV) I heard the song and video In Bloom from the exploding popularity of Nirvana's new album Never Mind It was a pre cut earlier version recording and video featuring Chad Channing on drums. Very different from the official song and Cheesy video Ed Sullivan Show parody with Kurt in drag with Grohl on drums. That first video with Channing rarely got played.

In my opinion the live shows with Chad on drums are the best like the one that's on the Bleach reissue.

I’m not a Foo Fighters fan at all, but it’s impressive that Dave Grohl is still so relevant. In the 90’s, we hated guys from previous decades (old dudes still trying to be relevant).

Kurt was probably feeling Chad out about writing? He never liked that idea. Dave had marigold requests at Unplugged. Kurt choose " where did you sleep last night ."

@PiedPooper-gh6cn Unplugged was a successful show. Alice in Chains also chose the dark death "themey" as you describe. Kurt Cobain, in my opinion, chose the right songs for Unplugged!! You gotta remember everything about Nirvana was Kurt's creation... It was his arc and baby!!

@@PiedPooper-gh6cn a functional drug addict? LOL that's almost as laughable as you pretending you know the intimate details about Kurt's drug abuse. Literally every one around him from his family to his bandmates to his business manager have all stated repteatedly Kurt was in a downward spiral. I think I'll take the words of those who actually knew him over clowns on the internet like you. The Kurt you've convinced yourself existed is a fantasy.
