The only time Nirvana played this live was at the Aragon Ballroom, Chicago, IL 10/23/93. Dave announces "this is our last song, it's called All Apologies" and then Kurt thinks otherwise and launches into this. It's so much more powerful, lyrically, sonically and knowing it was being heard for the first time is absolutely stunning. The acoustic version is also beautifully haunting. P.S. Courtney "had no right" playing that song

@@ikemreacts Well, if he could have kicked heroin or dumped the toxic moocher Courtney, he would have given us more songs. OP is right that he was a better and better songwriter as the albums progressed. Thing is, he did heroin primarily because of his excruciating stomach pain from ulcers. So that would have had to have been treated first. And it's hard to leave someone after years of looking for "love." So, kind of a moot point, but still.

he literally had a note that stated she was taking his money for dope while he was trying to get clean, her being removed from the will means she would've had nothing from his success and her and her band would've fell into obscurity after they split, even with such a motive to take this man out it doesn't even compare to the inconsistencies in his "suicide". She has the answers to his death.

When the drummer tries to sing and wins Grammys and sells 30 million records and is millions of people's favorite band leader of all time and has achieved success that is unfathomable, in fame and riches and legacy and influence & longevity we absolutely love him. Also, Dave did sing on Nevermind and In Utero. So he was never just the drummer. He is just an all-around great musician since before the days of Scream.

As a lifelong fanboy, all of the above check out as plausible -- in high school I didn't want to believe that he offed himself but have lately come to acknowledge that H/miserable marriage could do irreparable damage to mental state, among others no doubt -- He had songs like "I hate myself & want to die" -- Yeah he says it was a ha-ha title but cmon man -- Idk in the event this dude plotted his own death, he sure knew what he was doing to leave it shrouded in mystery .....

I’m not so sure, both versions reference another ‘she’. Obviously nobody can claim to know entirely what happened ( I have my own take on all this but opinions are like arseholes, everybody has got one) but given both versions allude to wanting and needing to move on, and in the acoustic version he even sings that he will ‘love again’ etc I think it’s pretty clear he wanted out of the marriage and the band but I don’t think there’s lyrical references to suicide in either of these versions, although there are plenty of them in In Utero, sadly.

From all the footage of seeing if Kurt and Courtney together before his demise, Courtney was very abusive towards him, and it was obviously shown, especially in the 1993 MTV video music awards, if you look closely at how she treats him and some of the pictures he’s not happy with her she’s just taking a spotlight for herself, and when he wrote the song, you know you’re right, the lyrics are plainly obvious he was going to divorce her and leave her and then probably afterwards Nirvana would’ve been no more basically in his own words he was at the end of his ropes

In what i understand of years of being a fan and listener of nirvana and Kurt's music "Who cares?" would be probably be something that he would say about the meaning of any of his songs. Some of me is glad he didn't have to go through the aftermath of separating with love. It's kinda a sad and poetic moment in time when Kurt wanted nothing but love but had to walk away from it. Both her and the feeling. RIP the voice that makes most party and many cry.

I remember the day the mp3 leaked on file sharing. We had the live one for a few years, then 10 seconds of the studio appeared during the legal disputes. The full studio version leaked the day Courtney Love actually was hosting MTV for 24 hours. Its suspected that Grohl leaked it. Its theorized he wanted to throw her off on live TV, but she probably didnt realize it was leaked, or she wasnt trying to wig about it.

The grungiest grunge song I've ever heard. Kurt was an absolute master at his craft. He also knew the sounds he wanted, which requires good musical understanding, which a lot of people dont give him credit

It wasn't called '' You know you're right'' It was called '' On a mountain'' in 1994, I had a bootleeg version in 1994. I might still have it on a cassette somwhere.

Love all this information. I just wish you would've used something more appropriate for the portion of video that plays during the live recording of the song from the Aragon Ballroom (1:23 > 1:55). Looks like the footage you used is from the Nevermind-era/tour (no angels on stage, and he's playing his sunburst Jaguar instead of one of his Jagstangs, which is what he was using during the In Utero tours in '93). Plus the video isn't anywhere close to being in sync (musically) with the audio we hear. Even if there isn't any video from the Aragon show, I think some still shots from the performance would've been better than older, out of sync footage. Just my two cents.

At the start its the sound of a kicked over ladder, which means hanging and suicide, of which we all know he was suicidal, and the words he wrote and sang were about pain, sadness, suicide, of which people relate, and of which the song is about. If they write lyrics about their life and pain you better take it as the truth, Chris Cornell, Chester Bennington, Lil Peep, Amy winehouse, Layne staley, Juice WRLD, Mac Miller, etc they may cover up the way they died, but its basically the same for all.

"We all knew he was suicidal" Nonsense, the suicidal story came from Courtney, everyone else said that Kurt upbeat and positive, he had even made plans to try and reconcile with Donald, by going fishing. One thing suicidal people do not do....is make plans, it just doesn't happen, and it's one of the many major flaws in the "suicide" theory.

Courtney lacks the self awareness to realize that she no musical talent whatsoever, so she had to shit all over the last song Kurt wrote, BEFORE we were able to hear it. I full heartedly agree with you about Courtney Love.

2:42 Kurt used Earnie Bailey Pedal Board and Kurt didn't use a Boss DS-1 the pedal Kurt used was either a 1980s Made In Japan Ibanez SM-9 Super Metal or either a 1993 Boss HM-3 Hyper Metal pedal on the song "You Know You're Right"

Ive always heard the only guitar he brought to the Robert Lang recording was his jaguar, and he had to use a pedal board and amp that was in the studio.

This is a nice job much better than I expected… I can’t say I really knew Kurt, or Courtney for that matter - - but my god did I run into her at that time… And before they were together… I have no particular insight into the relationship, but I can tell you that she could be simultaneously seductive an offputting in a very surprising and disagreeable way

I tend to think Courtney was downplaying but also responding. A lot of people grieve differently. In her lyrics she touches on an anger of him leaving as he did. I reserve judgement of her. This song was a song about her after all. It hit hard the first time I heard it. Both versions.

So she wouldn't let his song be released but she performed it under another name with her band on vh1 and then access Hollywood. I swear when the circumstantial evidence is that great how can you ignore that. His version was way better than hers. His talent was far greater than she was or will ever be and she knew it.
