RE 7:50 there has to be a binder to keep the nugget together. Per the website for B&B: What are Oak Briquets? Our briquets are larger than the average briquet and are made from a blend of charred hardwoods that is held together with a vegetable starch binder.

Hey Tom, fellow Wisconsinite here (in the Milwaukee/Greenfield area) I just wanted to say I really enjoy your content. I love seeing the mods you’ve made to your grills. Regarding the vegetable starch in Jealous Devil, not much is added and from what I understand it’s used as a binder as a safer/healthier alternative than chemicals/additives etc. I poked around on a few of the name brands and found that it’s definitely a thing in the charcoal industry. B&B has it listed on their site as well. That’s all, thank you for the time and effort you put into your content. Always look forward to watching. 👍

After watching your videos, I made the switch about a year ago to B&B in my Akorn. The grill is so efficient and the charcoal last so long I go through a bag in about 3 to 4 months grilling once a week. The flavor is pretty good, too.

I do a lot of longer cooks on the PK with a setup that doesn't allow for adding charcoal. Switching (after watching your videos) to B&B from Royal Oak All Natural has made life so much easier. I haven't carefully tested it like you did here but I think it burns a third longer or a bit more. Thanks for promoting quality product.

Thought I was supporting a made in USA product but since it's actually made in Mexico might just switch to jealous devil for the higher temperature and use less of it.

Walmart lists B&b, but it’s not available or for sale in my area, so it’s only ace hardware, which makes the price very similar. Walmart is just easier to get to, and they’re open on sundays, where Ace in my city closes on sundays and closed by 6pm other days.

It’s Quebracho wood (a very dense wood) on the Jealous devil. The corn starch is the binder if I’m not mistaken. Typically have kingsford blue, B&B briquettes and Max briquettes on hand and use them depending on what I’m doing.

Ive struggled with Jealous Devil and usually gotta mix it with some cowboy charcoal, the royal oak logs are decent but as a first time user of B&B briquettes, wow, just wow. My turkey came out beautiful, juicy. I accidentally made the snake too long do I decided to see how long (like 3/4 around my nexgrill kettle lol) it takes before its finally done.

Thanks for the video. Always great. I do have to believe that if the charcoal is in consistent squares it has to be molded using a binder. It may be corn starch which is at least maybe natural but something has to be used. Why B&B says no fillers, makes me wonder what their definition of filler is.

Love your content and the comparison. Just FYI Walmart has some fuzzy math there. As 9.97 for 16.9 lb bag is $0.59/lb. Still cheaper than JD but most of us can’t get B&B at WM. Also as many have said, the price ace sells B&B for is very similar to JD (just under $1 per lb).
@yesitsmario88

Ya Walmart has it wrong, it's 17.6lb bag so it's $0.56/lb. They do go out of stock a lot on the Walmart site, but if you check everyday, you should be able to order some. I was able to after 3 days and I ordered like at 1am in the morning.

I really appreciate the content. I would make a recommendation to revise your methodology for this comparison. The procedure seems reasonable for checking the "hotter" part of the equation. But to fairly compare the "longer" I would recommend running at the same temperature for both. A hotter fire will burn fuel faster than a lower fire. I suspect they will be more comparable if kept at the same temps. Again, really appreciate the content.
@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ
@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ Жыл бұрын
Thanks for Watching Lee! Point taken, they were both used with vents at the same position. What this proved was that one burned hotter than the other, if I would’ve closed off vents for one then I would do it for both,

I have B&B Char-Logs, Jealous Devil XL briquettes, and Cowboy Hardwood Briquettes. Recommend one in particular? Or use a combo to fit as much fuel in as I can? Probably will dump lit in bottomless coffee can and corral the charcoal with the straight side of a charcoal basket like last time. Good comparison video!

ONE problem, if I order one bag at $9.97 for 17.6 lbs I would pay $6.99 for delivery for a total of $16.96 for just one bag. As much as I’d like to try B&B … I’ll try to find at a local Ace Hardware store.
