Thank you for clearly enunciating their names and making it seamless in your storytelling cadence. Often people don't practise saying the names of people they talk about and botch the enunciation but even if you mispronounce it, you make a strong and confident attempt to say their names correctly and I think that is so important and speaks to your calibre. Sometimes people will even say the wrong name of the person whilst the name is on the screen (common names too!) and I find that so disrespectful. Being a good researcher means going out of your way to get the details correct. Their names are the details. So thank you once again for providing top notch service in bringing these stories. I trust you are accurate because you pay attention to the meticulous details. I see you.

SPOCAIN, NEEZ PURSE, KOWTENEE….DEAR GOD, I am sick of it. It’s Spokane, Nez Perce, and Kootenai 🙄 Honestly, it means a lot to see people put the effort in. It tells me they care about the topic they are covering, instead of spending zero time on making sure they get names and words - especially aboriginal names and words, correct. As someone who has only had their last name pronounced correctly 7 times in 30 some odd years, it doesn’t bother me personally, but it does bother me when it’s Aboriginal, or if someone is making monetized content.

@@theappraizer I'm basically an atheist, but I'll let you in on a secret. Believe it or not, many atheists actually respect and even envy those who do believe and have a seemingly unshakable faith! Many of us wish we could set aside all of the doubts and forget the countless mass murders, wars, and genocide, most of which have their roots in blind religious zealotry. When we are young, we're told that God loves you, watches over you, keeps you safe from harm, and that God has a plan, not just for you, but for everyone! For example, every day children are kidnapped, raped repeatedly, and then murdered! And I'm expected to believe that that's all part of a benevolent God's plan. I can't reconcile those opposing thoughts until I remove the deity. Sorry, I never meant for this to turn into a rant.

@@yzer there's no "longing" in my "envy" (for lack of a better word) of those who believe. Because those people are slaves! The bit of envy that exists between is rooted back in childhood. When, as children, we had virtually no responsibility for our actions, and most of our choices were made for us by others! That's what most people want. To not be held solely responsible for their actions and their lives! Most people simply can't cope with the reality of this life and they desperately search for answers to the meaning of their existence. So they turn to the easiest answer "God"! But that's not the life for me. I leave that behind me in childhood, along with Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy!

@@0okamino Sure, but I don't think the issue is whether the religion is foreign (to them) or not, it's just religious thinking in general, I mean they were seemingly primed by their own stupid beliefs accept other people's stupid beliefs so readily, it doesn't much matter whether these superstitions come from within or from other people . . . I mean if Hindus in India are practising barbaric things like "Sati" (the practice of burning a widow to ashes during her late husband's funeral), and Christians turn up and cajole them into some other idiotic practice . . . then I don't much care where or who these things come from, it's just the generalised issue of religious / magical / superstitious thinking, it's poisonous wherever it comes from.

If not for the belief of Christianity, these sick men would have just claimed they were possessed by evil spirits and that's what made them do it. We know better though, don't we. In spite of the bloodshed, this was a fascinating episode to me. I'd previously never even heard of the Belcher islands and never taken the time to learn much about the culture and lifestyle of Inuit people who lived there. Thanks.

I started this video last night and your voice lulled me to sleep not long after. Woke up at 6am and tried again, but same results. This is the third time I'm attempting to watch and now that I'm at work, I should be able to make it through.

Wow what an education you have provided us. So much to considering this story. The resourcefulness of indigenous peoples to survive and also that the clash of cultures can bring havoc. Above all, the susceptibility of humans to religious cults is universal.

Very good video. I've sometimes wondered what isolated, small populations may resort to when faced with an unrepentant and dangerous bully/criminal in their midst. This confirms my suspicions perfectly. They took care of the problem. And then it got worse with religion.
