Using the LCD controller: In this episode we show you what to look for when starting the controller heater for the first time. This is the usual LCD controller which you get with the cheap ebay style diesel heaters. (Get a controller like this here: amzn.to/34t6boN)
We show you how to:
- Change to temperature mode
- Prime the pump
- Set the clock
- Set timers

These heaters are great. I found that writing the instructions out in a manner that you understand and testing the instruction as you go will give a good insight into the operation of the heater. I have two of these heaters so I can alternate the installed heater while I service the worn one . A fault I had after I purchased the first one was the problem of having 2 magnets on the fan and the control unit was set for 1 magnet. This can be changed in the set up, ( I can't remember how but I did change it). The only service I have to do on these heaters is replace the brushes in the fan motor but they do have a long service life,( at least 4000hours). I view this as a service item and have purchased packets of brushes for less than ten dollars (Australian). The motors are easy to disassemble and the purchased brushes have to be shaped to fit their holders but it take about 30 minutes and a bit of soldering and all good. I did purchase a spare fan motor and most people would find the easier as the are fairly cheap and very easy to install. The units I have are the 8 Kw type and I would recommend these units as they are efficient, cheap to operate, cheap to buy and easy to service at intervals. I have no problems with carbon build up as I had with the Airtronic D2 units that I had before, ( I think this might be caused by the quality of the diesel rather than a fault with the unit)

H” Heater Instruction: Tune Key Fob: Hold “ON BUTTON” and “DOWN ARROW” simultaneously until the letters “OC1” appear, then press the on button on the key fob and it should be linked. Turn the heater on/off by holding the corresponding button for 2 seconds. Please note: you can only link the key fob when the heater is turned off. Adjust Temperature And Fan Speed: the heater can be run on two separate modes. There’s a manual mode where you can run everything at constant speed. Or there’s a thermostat mode where you can have the heater regulate how fast everything runs depending on the current temperature. To switch between these 2 mode, hold the “SETTINGS” button. Priming The Pump: If your heater ever runs out of fuel, you may need to prime before the next use. This is easy but over priming could lead to damage. Try and avoid running out of fuel, but just remember that running out of fuel will not damage the heater as it knows when then fuel runs out and will safely shut itself down. Over priming can lead to a major soot up inside the heater and will results in thick white smoke coming out of the exhaust. In order to prime the pump, press and hold the “UP ARROW” and “DOWN ARROW” simultaneously and let go when you’d like to stop priming. Remember not to over prime, if your fuel line is only short, you’ll probably get away with just turning the heater on once or twice and it will prime itself safely. To set a time for the heater to turn on and/or off. Please follow these steps. 1. Set the how many minutes until the heater turns on. To do this hold the “OK” and “DOWN ARROW” at the same time until ##.#h appears. You will see the clock at the top of the screen flash with “ON”. This means you’re setting a countdown until the heater will turn itself on. 2. If it flashes with “ON”, set the number to how long until you want to wait until the heater will turn on. For example if it’s currently 10pm and you want the heater to turn on at 7am, set the number to 09:0h. (In 9 hours it will be 7am) How the numbers work are Hours:then the third number is decimal minutes, so each “1” represents 6 minuets. 2a. To navigate through the time, use the “UP ARROW” and “DOWN ARROW” to set the flashing number. Then press “ON BUTTON” to cycle to the next one. You will need to press “OK” once you have entered the time you want. 3. If you’re wanting to only set the timer for when it turns on, skip this step as this is how to set the heater to turn “OFF” automatically. Which isn’t used as often. Repeat step (1) but when the clock is flashing with “ON”, press the “SETTINGS” button and this will now flash with “OFF”. Now follow as before and set a countdown from when you want to heater to turn off. Just note that this setting is still set from what time it is now, so a number lower than the time you entered on the previous page won’t work. For example, if it’s currently 10pm and you want the heater to turn on FOR 1 HOUR at 7am - set the first page to 09:0h and set this page (the OFF page) to 10:0h. This means the heater will turn on in 9 hours for 1 hour. 1. Once you’ve entered these settings you still need to let the heater know you want it to turn itself on. So after saving the previous settings, from the home screen hold the “SETTINGS” and “UP ARROW” at the same time until a little clock appears next to the temperature. The clock should flash with ON. Just note: the countdown timer you entered in steps 2 and 3 will only start from when you press the “SETTINGS” and “UP ARROW”.

I purchased and paid for 8kw. but realistically it is 5kw... Just be mindful when buying, they do not have 8kw heaters ... despite paying a lot more cash.. you only get the 5kw.

My heater came with a controller that (looks) just like berko's in this video BUT I see the connection harness (you know, where you plug the wire pigtail into the main wire harness) on mine is a SQUARE plug connection. I have looked at a LOT of the so called universal replacement LCD controllers being offered out there and they all seem to have what I would describe as a Triangle shape with rounded corners as the plug type. Wondering if anyone else can tell me if their heater came with a square type plugin for the LCD Display/controller? I ask mostly because the controller I have does NOT seem to be able to enter any fuel prime mode or change LCD Temperature readings from F° to C° . No ability to access any "advanced menu options" by entering some 4 digit code like berco tell of either. Can't enter any "TIME" info/numbers like berko shows here in his video either. So obviously I cannot enter a On time or OFF time either. I was really looking forward to learning & messing with all these (Advanced features) but am wondering if maybe there are (OLD STYLE) controllers with a square plug that don't do all this stuff berko's doing? I have tried pressing all conceivable combinations of OK Button/Gear Icon button , Up & Down arrows... NO JOY Anyone know??

There are newer versions of this controller which look almost identical which have limited features. I suspect you may have one of these controllers. The easiest way to tell is to look at the number of blades on the fan icon (in the picture of the heater). The ones with less features have 3 blades. If you have one of those there is not much you can do unfortunately. Priming will have to be done by hitting on and waiting for the cycle to complete - and it might take 2 or 3 times to get the fuel to the heater.

my controller seems to be the exact same model as this one (it looks identical), but for some reason it only lets me set 2 timers. After i set the first time of timer 1, it goes straight to timer 2, instead of allowing me to select an end time. I've played around with it as I don't understand how it's working the time out. If i set it for 7am (like in this video) it doesn't come on. But if i set the start time as 00:05, it will come on 5 minutes later, but then if i work out the amount of time until 7am, and input that, it still doesn't come on. And then to confuse things more, it comes on randomly sometimes in the middle of the day when i'm not there!! Does anyone know what is going in? I've reached out to the company that sold me it, but they just sent me the manual and didn't understand what i meant

so what does the pump Hz setting actually do and what should be set to? If its set to a high frequency does it just make it burn hotter and use more fuel?
@berko79
@berko79 3 жыл бұрын
The Hz number is how many pulses the pump is doing per second. The larger this number the more the fuel pump is pumping. Increasing this number also increases the fan speed and as a result the heat the heater puts out.

I use the pump Hz setting to adjust a fixed heat I want it to blow out, because the temp setting is unreliable. I estimate what Hz suits me. Also, I went to the 1688 settings to adjust the minimum fan speed in order to prevent sooting and to provide better heat distribution across the vehicle. By the way, my 2KW heater easily starts up at 11-12 volts. Maybe I am just lucky.

Hi I fitted one to a t5 transporter the only way i can get it to start Is to run the engine as to kick start it because the leisure battery dosnt seem to be strong enough to get it started, could this be a wire thickness issue?
@berko79
@berko79 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, Cable thickness is important especially for long runs. The longer the run the thicker the cable you need. Most of the quotes on wires are for reasonably short runs. Does your heater start when the van is on (battery charging)? Usually having the engine of the van running will spike the voltage enough to start the heater. Once the glow plug cycle is complete (glow plug icon goes out) you will be fine as the draw is minimal. The only other thing i can think of is that maybe your unit is set to 24v?
@markrobinson8575
@markrobinson8575 3 жыл бұрын

Hi Mark, These use just over 10 amps for the first couple of minutes to heat the glow plug. I'd be surprised if your leisure battery couldn't supply that. I really think it is the size of the cable like you first said.
@berko79
@berko79 3 жыл бұрын
I'm trying to think how to easily test this. If you have a multimeter you can check the voltage at the battery on initial sartup. You can also check the voltage at the heater on startup. I bet you will see the voltage at the heater end is much lower.

oh ok, maybe they have another version which uses the arrows to prime... haven't heard of that. With mine you are able set clock/timers when its running I'm pretty sure. Do you have a button which looks like a gear or the OK button - those seem to be the buttons most controllers use for cycling through the options.

@@berko79 yes it has gears icon top left ,ok bottom left , only saw a timer wen I first powered it up by fuse but did not set any clock etc. Just to update mine is the newer one (not the blue one ) looks similar but the display is more detailed ,the only info I found online was 1 person who mentioned like me unable to find any clock setting ,the new one has no battery icon ,it displays the volts in digits ,be good if someone did a review on the newer type .

@@TmanMetal oh wow I've never had that one. It's apparently overvoltage or no flame. Is your power source or battery higher than 14v? Otherwise no flame can mean you need to bleed air or the lines(prime the pump again) and might mean you have a air leak in your fuel lines.

Thanks for the video. My heater heats too much. When i set it for 25c it heats up to 33c. It blows slowly, but hot air. It never goes down. Is something wrong or it's the way they work? Thanks.

Yeah I am finding the trigger to lower the output is a bit funny. Often i have to manually lower the temperature to trigger it to slow down. This is the only real issue (besides the controller always having to be on) which I've got with the heater.
@ronkennedy8676
@ronkennedy8676 4 жыл бұрын
I think ours is reasonably accurate but I also imagine it reads the temp when it is. As you know hot air rises so for example if you've got it in the closed cutlery draw (cos you haven't worked out where best to put it yet) like we did for a start well I reckon it was hearing the living area up more because of the restricted air in the drawer

Hi friend when I press the ok button the room temp comes up when I press twice is coming up p_55
@berko79
@berko79 3 жыл бұрын
I believe this is the same as mine. p_55 is the hz of the pump. To change it to set the temp rather than the hz you need to push the top 2 buttons at the same time - this can be tricky and you might need to press the up slightly before the geared wheel button.

yes agree. The shutdown is particularly important as it makes sure the heater is cool enough to turn off. Lots of people do not wait for the procedure to complete before cutting the power to the heater.

@@berko79 I think it would be difficult to write a manual because there are so many different variations of controllers. Having said that, You would thing these company's in China building (and selling) these would have the ability to get an English speaking China man or woman to write out the manual! It's a bit ridiculous to build such cool (or hot if you prefer) little units & not be able to put together a readable/understandable instruction manual for them. Hey berko79, I am writing a lot of posts tonight & questions I hope you get some notifications of and will try to answer me about. Would really love to know if you have any knowledge of any wire jumping that might get these heaters to fire up if the LCD Controller craps out or the wires break loose? Maybe it's just not something they can do BUT I would kinda like to be prepared for it should it happen. I would think (most) of the operations are controlled by the board in the heater unit. IE: the cool down & start up cycles. Things like the wires to controllers can (usually) be jumped for emergency or testing purposes???????
@berko79
@berko79 2 жыл бұрын
@@rustysummers3217 I'm not sure you are able to jump wires to get it to work. I believe they have some kind of communication protocol between the unit and controller so unfortunately its not as simple as grounding wires or anything.
