It is so good that you have found Chendra such a good home where she is an important part of an elephant family. She looks so happy!

Bornean elephant is a sub species of the Asian elephant (maybe even a species of its own), also known as pygymy elephant because of its size. Found only in the state of Sabah in East Malaysia. Highly endangered, due to loss of habitat.

hj deenomyte I didn't realize pygmy elephants and Borneo elephants were the same animal. I've heard of pygmy elephants before and how they are so small and they are friendly. Why do people have to cause so much trouble for animals?

As it turns out, Chendra was fortunate to have gone through the suffering she went through as a baby. All that suffering led her to the wonderful home she has now where she can live happily ever after. Thank you for providing this wonderful ending to her story.

She's really cute with her little ears and trunk 😊 but like he was saying the elephants get injured because of the palm oil plantations which is something I just recently learned about. I've been reading ingredient lists on food labels looking for palm oil and if it's listed I don't buy it anymore. I don't need it bad enough to injure an elephant🐘. ☺️

That's not a solution. Boycotting palm oil won't save wildlife or their habitats, and here's why: In consumers boycotted palm oil, companies will switch to alternative oils that may use up as much as nine times the amount of land needed. Meanwhile, palm oil growers would have less incentive to produce sustainable palm oil. Additionally, the U.S. only uses a mere fraction of all the palm oil produced in the world. The vast majority is used as cooking oil in China and Southeast Asia. A boycott in the U.S. would have no real impact on the global use. It's not about what it is, but rather where it came from and how it was harvested.

Still, if you do still want to help. There is a free palm oil phone app that a zoo created that you can use to make sure what you are buying doesn't contain palm oil.

Again, boycotting palm oil is *not* a solution. Read my reply above before you choose to give in to misconceptions.
