I definitely love these setup specific speed runs. It helps me understand the moves (obv can’t play exact same). Only suggestions I have is 1) more of this lol 2) if you could explain any “long term” or “pivotal” moves/ideas behind the king’s indian.

Great and thanks Alex I really needed this because I don't want to play the queen's gambit after 1.D4.

I’ve always played KID but I have been making bad moves. Namely the main break not knowing to do the c pawn when bishop pins f6 knight. I started implementing lots of these ideas and jumped from 1700 bullet to 1900. Ezclap

En passant 😅 My friend thought I was trolling him with that rule 😂😂😂
@Trephining
@Trephining 6 ай бұрын
The fun thing is that once you do en passant against a friend, and they were unaware that that was a legal move in chess, and they don't believe you, you can show them from legitimate sources that it's a bona fide move. Then later you can actually make something up off the top of your head, and when they are surprised, confused, and start questioning you, you can just say "Remember 'en passant?' It's kind of like that, but different." Lololol, see what kind of zany stuff you can make up, give it a name, and get away with! hahaha Here's an idea: Say you get boh your bishops to the eighth rank, and for whatever on-the-board reasons, you'd much prefer them to be on their original squares of c1 and f1 or c8 and f8. So on your turn, you just pick up both bishops, place them on their original squares, like it's normal as the sun rising. And be prepared with the Italian word or the French word or the Latin or Russian word for "cathedral", saying that it is named that because it is like the two bishops returning to a cathedral. Bet you can pull that one off, lololol.

Awesome video ! Thank you so much for your time. By the way, are the opponents really 500 / 600 rated ? They seem quite strong for this level.

Played a tournament game last night. I should have just played king's indian. Instead I basically played a caro kann and that did not go extremely well. I think KID would have faired better. Thank you for these videos Alex, extremely helpful!

Your opening move order is different from how I play it. I usually start with knight f6. If they play e5, the I play d6, otherwise it's pawn g6, bishop g7, castle. I may start trying your move order.

It's doable if you have some time on the clock. I'm very rusty on it, and it's really not something you should bother about learning because it's super rare. (Most Gm's never got it in a game, myself included).

Could you show how Black plays this line? 1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 g6 3. Nc3 Bg7 4. e4 d6 5. Be2 O-O 6. h4! I quite like playing this line as White, and get good positions out of it

I love this speedrun so far. It's fun to contrast it to the chessbrah kings indian speedrun. One piece of feedback I think for your commentary is to avoid emphasizing how much you're "completely winning" or "crushing". You end up saying it half a dozen times or so each game, and it doesn't add much to the experience. I think you could add more educational content in that time instead of pointing out that you, an IM, are beating someone rated 600 (or really any rating)

I always say wether I am winning/losing, better/worse and usually explaining why. Evaluating the position accurately is one of the most important skills in chess. If you watch more you will understand that it's not about winning/losing and it's about helping other people imrpove their thinking process. I bet most of the viewers have trouble understanding what is going on the board and pointing out stuff like ''opponents king is very weak so we are complitely crushing'' really helps. The alternative would be ''opponents king is weak and we have decent chances to convert'' would really deterioriate the information and even make some people watching care less about king's safety.

I prefer it since it helps confirm and emphasize good positions. Sometimes it’s obvious to me, but not always.
@Trephining
@Trephining 6 ай бұрын
Having it expressed whether the position is winning or not is very hlepful. That's essentially the algorithm that the chess engines use anyway, constantly looking at positions and evaluating them as "good" or "bad", though getting more nuanced to differentiate between "so good I'd eat a refrigerator" and "so good I just kicked myself in the face".

When will you just show how to play easy chess , promoting to a knight so you can do a fancy check mate instead of just queening and winning quickly. We all know your a great player now show us your a great instructor instead of showing off ....
@Trephining
@Trephining 6 ай бұрын
He is showing us he's a good instructor. He does sometimes show unnecessarily fancy lines besides the ones he plays, sometimes during the game an d sometimes in the post-game analysis.
